That's Newscorp for you. Facebook is much nicer. It's just not the same crowd as myspace, and I find that very refreshing. =)
Maybe the word "friend" is being devaluized, but the concept of friendship might just get a new word. Maybe we're due for one anyway. I think Disney fucked it up for everyone already. ;)
And you're getting from the same people also bulletins "I've reached 1000 friends now".
Here on YouTube I accept all friend's invites ... if it makes them happy ... since I never check the Shared Videos folder, haha.
LOL, deleting 10 friends and getting one whopper for free. LOL, some people will get lots of whoppers when they're hungry then. Is it a real marketing strategy of Burger King or maybe a hoax to test how many people are believing it?
I can definitely understand and concur with what you are saying. lol personally, I laugh because they have resulted to do this.. poor sales so they seeked out a brain-tank advertising/marketing etc team that achieved what they set out to do..
Delete friends, add them again etc.. they don't care.. just as long as you read and understood the words 'Burger King'. Advertising/propaganda 101. rofl.

i'm thinking it's to encourage you to first ADD more friends & then delete them.
basically no-one is going to delete a "real friend" (whatever a "real friend" is..)
and even if they do they'll just add them again.
more than likely people will just create fake accounts or add strangers...
no matter what tho, the sites views will go up, & both companies will get more xposure & make more money.

well they could have atleast added a resurrection feature. You have to wait 3 days though but then can resurrect a friend :)

maybe if the kids all think that a friend is anyone you meet they will be a lot more sociable as a generation than previous generations.

thats to be proven. The standards would crash though.
