  • Awesomeness

  • very good, but who you trying to kid??? that aint traveling riverside blues.

  • @yoonhapki

not trying to kid anyone, its merely my interpretation.

its more closely related to Clapton's version. if you listen to Led Zeppelins version, its a whole 'nother trip.

    thanks for your interest,

    Strat

  • well done, very well done

  • you made your t- shirt with the tends? XD

  • Thanks to your video I decided to go hitch hiking as soon as I will finish school this year. Lake, guitar, tent and some weed and wine.

  • Dude .. I am from Canada, and just stumbled on your stuff. Nice job! Drive those blues tones. Really nice stuff. Had to say it.

  • I like this cover. I like the slight (psychedlic) graini-ness...looks different.

I like where this song goes, so to speak.

Every storyteller would get their own soul into this tune somewhere - It seems like if you had a shot of, say, whiskey it might even be a bit more loose.

Overall, who am I kidding? Sounds great! Good job, dude!

  • Proper Blues!

  • this is excellent! fantastic technique!

  • that looks ackward i don't think i could play a resonator, atleast not sitting on my lap like that. sounds good though.

  • Great Version Man!! You play very very good!!! go blues!!!

  • sounds great, check out my cover if you get the time.

  • Swwwweeeeeeeeeet !!!

  • That geetar must be worth quite a bit? is it a resonator? excuse my ignorence I only play them I know fuck all about them, if it holds its tune I like it, simple

  • @mistermusicmaker

yuup its a Gibson "Hound Dog resonator, squareneck ...on the lap only ....fretless and the action is close to an inch from the fingerboard..its all mahogany i gather...rings like a bell! i paid about 650 a few yrs back but check ebay they might be cheaper now

  • Comment removed

  • and the people that didnt like this hit the thumbs down when they were surprised it really wasn't r johnson they were listening to

  • start2caster, man this is awesome. youve got the song down, youve got the right voice, you're playing on a resonator, which makes it even cooler, and gotta love youir shirt. keep it up

  • Captain Beefheart updated the lyrics and recorded his own version, called "Sure Enough N Yes I Do" -- youtube won't let me link to their own video of it, but it's easy to find.

  • Sounds great! Love how you play it like a lap steel - it sounds fantastic.

  • like your style guy....love the history lessons as well...you pick a mean guitar too

  • Do you have to crank the action right up for steel guitar?

  • awesome!

  • Man that sounds great. I am still learning the Dobro been playing it about 4 years. What kind of dobro is that?

  • wow, very good. are all RJ songs in open G?

  • i'm not sure about all RJ songs being in open g, i know walking blues is in open B

  • Great cover, nice vocal and guitar skills.

    I loved it. :)

  • its not a cover, robert johnson wrote it and led zep covered it.

  • no man, its a classical blues song, written in, probably the late 1800s

  • yeah, you're totally right., i dunno what I was saying.

  • check your dates

  • It's not from the 1800's.

There weren't any known 12 bar blues songs that were recorded or written down until Charley Patton, and a guy named Henry Sloan who he supposedly may have learned from.

  • Which of course makes it impossible to write.

  • DUDE....that's good shit....eric clapton style....nice.....if you need rhythm and singing....i've got some backup in fort worth

  • Thanks for sharing your great talent!

  • hippie are th best at all !! you are amazing dude !!

    imjealous =(

  • i freakn love this song, i listen to it over and over lol you did a freakn awesome job

  • your to good for youtube

  • strat, we got almost the same guitaars. mine you can play regular, if you want to chew your fingers up:)

  • Very good. That's a nice interpretation.

  • are you a fan of 32-20 blues?

  • Thanks for the references to Led Zeppelin. I didn't know they paid tribute to Robert Johnson. Another songwriter influenced by Johnson is Stephen Stills. At the beginning of "49 Reasons" Stills quotes the line "Why don't you come into my kitchen, cause it's going to be rain' out there.." A friend of mine took guitar lessons until he could play Keith Richard's version of "Love in Vain." That's my favorite of Johnson's own recordings.

  • very nicely done!

  • simply a GENIUS! :)

  • Brilliant! Love your voice and your guitar playing is superb!

  • awesome!

  • You rules man

  • Nice work.

  • Hey Strat-2...that's YOU,.....yeah!

  • hey Ross howzit goin' bro?!

  • perhaps you like the rattle, but if you dont want so much rattle you know you can lay one of those free fingers on the tuning side of the slide lightly on the strings to mute and it wont rattle as bad. it sounds good anyways though.

  • cool man i am muting a bit better now

  • nice shirt(:

  • that's the best damn screenname dude!!

    haha

  • my screen name?

  • yeah man.

  • how much do you paid for the dobro and how much do you think costs an epiphone?

  • this Gibson Hound Hog is about $1600 US right now but i think you can get an Epiphone much cheaper, maybe $200...i had a Johnson for $250 at one time and it was pretty decent

  • ok,thanks.great job,dude.

  • I need a Dobro man. Awesome sounding stuff.

  • git you sum!

    Very autentic !!

  • thanks bro , glad you dig it ;o)

  • Blues isn't really my kind of music, and I don't know much about it. But every idiot can hear that this is a master at work. Really good music.

  • wow thats very kind thanks!

  • You are so good my bro, i love that kind of blues . when you play the guitar sound like no belong at this time so you play like really players of blues....congratulations!!!

  • this is a great compliment, thanks very much !

  • Rockin Rob Blues . Awsome Bro!

  • thanks James ;o)

  • Good work!

But you sound a lot more like Clapton than like Johnson. Was it deliberate?

  • thanks ;o) it is more like claptons version, i saw him do this and other RJ classics live when he was promoting 'Me and Mr. Johnson'.

  • I'm impressed, you pull it off nicely. Just like the king of the delta himself, well done.

  • thank you Tizzer ;o)

  • isnt sad that music like this doesnt thrive anymore? everyone's into that self-centered 3 chord new crap...or at least its like that here in vegas haha

  • there is still a market for it, mostly musicians tho ;o)

  • Oh and nice shirt too:)

  • great job! Love from sweden!

  • thanks much

  • thanks much

  • thank you Jane, its the only "open G" song i do...:o)

  • Oh really?

  • yup

  • wow you're really good. incredible.

why haven't I seen you on tv?

  • thanks a lot! well YouTube is better than TV these days dont ya think?!

  • Great job man!

  • thanks very much, RJ is the king ;o)

  • Yes man! I wish I could play the guitar like that! I've larnt some things about Delta blues from the internet, I am in Britain now for studies, it's hard to find anyone interested in blues in my country (Cyprus) if you know where it is! :) I like blues and exploring the true origins of rock n' roll it's like an exciting time journry for me, I love this kind of music!

  • hey have you tried open tunings? this song is in open G , you should try it with a slide, its pretty easy once you get past the tuning change, it virtually plays itself . now i use open e and open d too, its actually easier than forming chords...give it a try man!

  • Ok man you 've convinced me! I will give it a try tomorrow, because it's three o clock in the morning here now! Thanx for the information!

  • coolio bro , keep me posted!

  • Good song, nice guitar sound, good voice

  • glad you enjoyed it , thank you ;o)

  • Coolest hippie ever!

  • thanks man, you have impeccable taste!

  • This is good...got a good sound goin'. nice job

  • thanks TbonXxX !

  • thank you buttlamo !

  • Yes I agree, its got all the soul of Johnson captured in style. Can i get a cd of your stuff?

  • thanks very much bro, PM me your email address, i'll send ya some MP3s

  • beautiful man, just beautiful. You´ve done what Clapton couldn´t, capture the soul of Johnson´s music without having to bring in other instruments

  • wow thats a great compliment thank you !

  • your version is actually better than the live performance with billy preston and clapton. Billy looked so bored. I'd like to hear Billy do it.

  • thanks for the kind comment ! i really like Claptons version of this, indeed he influenced mine... unfortunately Billy has passed on and wont be performing anything

  • Actually you sound a bit like Howlin Wolf. I know Billy passed on. I just thought the recording I saw was weak and the bass was too busy. Billy wasn't in his moment, if you know what I mean. And Clapton(love his work)seems too introverted and serious. Big mind, big music. Music is love.

  • yup i hear ya ...i saw them do it live and it was a really heartfelt performance tho

  • Oh yes - Ilike it... Sat here browsing with a bottle of Jack - and this is the good stuff!

Like the man said, good job. :-)

  • thanks very much !

  • still sat here, smokin' and drinking, and watching this clip, over and over...

    amen...

  • wow thats awesome that you find it so entertaining man , thank you ;o)

  • i've got more of a preference to the zeppelin version, but i dig this too man, good job

  • thank you, ive tried it that way too and dig it very much as well ;o)

  • Nice one man, my favourite from Robert Johnson! A great cover indeed ;)

  • thanks a lot bro this was my 1st dobro attempt ;o)

  • Sweet. Nice singing.

  • thanks !

  • that was fantastic

  • glad you dug it ;o)
