If you get 100% of coverage with the flake it will only show the true size of the flake , which can be a beautiful effect if that is what you are going for ! I also like to mix a bit of the house of kolor metajul in the candy because it is cut like a diamond and has multiple angles to really grab the light outside . Its a nice effect , as long as the metajul is not over done in the to take away from the bigger flake but to enhance it
Thanks for your comment rockabillyred . I have also used that approach ,but I have found that if you want your flake to look as big as possible you want to lay black down 1st and you do not want full coverage . Most big flakes really are not as big as most people think ! But on black after 3 to 5 dusting coats the flake begins to land on top of each other creating bigger islands of multiple flakes that appear to be huge . It is actually the black spaces between the flake that make it look huge
usually what I do is titn my sealer till its close to the flake color, on this id use probably a cadillac gold to tint the sealer. to me its easier to fill in with the flake and having two different size flakes looks really good IMO.
I have an Accuspray which is A HVLP that I hog the cap out a bit that I used only for the big flake then switched cap for candy and clear and house of colors . The key is to keep back flushing the gun gently to prevent build up of flake that can jam the gun .!!!
