@JasonDamisch China is run by a Communist Party, however since Deng took power they have embraced Free Market Capitalism. Communists seek a slow progression to a new economy, and unfortunately many require Capitalism (which is what Maoists in Nepal are fighting for) to build industry. It also makes life scarcely better then under Feudalism though. Socialism at least empowers the workers and gives them rights.
Population in CHINA is alarming that they can `sacrifies' any worker by these `unsafe designed toolings' and a worker may not ask or move a finger against compensation legally. Whereas in North America the workers can sue the factory owners for injury or death also they can legally say `NO' to unsafe working practices as a `worker's right' by law....!! When CHINA makes enough money for their country (like this) in the future generations they can give some `WORKER'S RIGHT' to say NOOOO to this..
Now that's a picture of capitalism in it's purest form! You want to know what capitalism really looks like when you truly set it free? Well you just saw it!
Give America's corporations just a little more freedom and couple more years and that can be us!
So many of you have absolutely no sense of history. If you want a reminder of just how ugly corporations can be if you don't reel them in then you need to re-read Upton Sinclair's "The Jungle."
@GreedIsYourGod Yea, Bureaucrats controlling business is such a good idea, no waste there! Countries that adopt Capitolism and free enterprise are much better off then countries that don't. If your associating capitolism with unsafe work then your wrong. Safety is important up to a point where common sense should take over. The governments are trying to not only regulate safety but peoples common sense as well and unfortunatly costs companies alot of money.
@mgman71 .....So, production goes to China. China today is not unlike the USA of yesterday during the Industrializing era. Their citizens will work hazardous jobs to get ahead. One thing holding them back for sure is the government control. I doubt very much you want to pay $10 for a toothbrush.
Funny how so many get upset when they hear that the average Chinese person has seen a big improvement in quality of life over the years. Then we hear complaints about bad working conditions that we ourselves allowed not so very long ago.
Yes this sucks but only they can do anything about it. Read the history about kids (6 yr old) working in UK coal mines and see the arguments used to justify it. And only just outside of living memory.
As long as money talks, people will profit by others.
@PhilJonesIII What you say is true - and the only reason it changed in the developed nations is because labor had the gumption to resist the brutal facts with principles of dignity - such that new facts were created. Support labor's struggle today: lobby for the Decent Working Conditions and Fair Competition Act (wiki that).
i don't see why they want 6 person to be on this... you can put 2 person (2 hands) on front and back... then 2 person on the side to get the 2 in the middle.
I think i just cut their cost by 1/3. yea i am chinese as well.
So, you're saying that US workers, consumers and environmrnt should all be subjected to the same hazards, risks and degredation as those in China. Just who is at an "unfair advantage"?
@Bigjohnnywad I don't understand what you're trying to say. Are you saying they need less than one child per couple? Maybe they do, but forcing people not to procreate at all is immoral, and then you have the problem of figuring out who can have children and who can't.
And apparently they aren't too dumb to see they have a population problem; they instituted the one-child policy for that purpose.
@ektrules The Government is forcing them, You get that right? Why do the Chinese need more than 1 kid anyhow? Why does anyone need more than 1 kid if they have one? They should do something like this around the world to control the population.
If the Government in China did not try and control it, They would fuck like rabbits, Most of the chinese are not that smart.
@Bigjohnnywad You realize the the Chinese government is run by Chinese people, right?
There are various reasons why families would want to have more kids: Families that make their living from farming, and do not have access to the farming equipment the developed world has. They have to have large families to help do the work. China is also now having the problem that one person has to take care of 2 parents, and 4 grandparents.
I do think all countries should have a 1-child policy though.
The pendulum will swing. Over time the Chinese people will revolt and they will have a revolution demanding worker rights. Just a matter of time before the inevitable cry for basic human rights triumphs. And then the Chinese unions formed will become too strong and costs will increase due to safety laws extended to the level of insanity and another country will become less expensive for manufacturing. Time marches on and the pendulum will swing again.
If North American unions were smart (?) they would use the tools readily available to them (let's see, this internet thing seems to work pretty well) to bombard the Chinese with instructions, benefits training for unionizing. Yes, this would be considered a long term investment from the perspective of today's corporate mentality (ship this month, profit this quarter, payback this year) but the benefits would be monumental - to improve worldwide trade imbalance and for well being of Chinese.
@ERJ1233 Unions are illegal in China. If people tried starting one, they'd lose their jobs, be imprisoned, or worse. Also, there's "The Great Firewall of China," and I bet all union related things on the internet are blocked.
And the Chinese culture/society is a bit different than ours. Many seem to agree with and like their government, and are thankful for what they do have. So I don't think any kind of revolution will happen any time soon.
@ERJ1233 I do agree that unions should be focused on being international though. With globalization, when workers are allowed to be exploited anywhere in the world, it hurts everyone.
The U.S. should really step up, and require all its trade partners to enforce decent labor standards. This would go a long way in improving conditions for everybody.
As to the title . Another reason might be the spelling of competative. It's hard to believe that US manufacturing is uncompetitive. You get low wages and shit conditions compared to many other 1st world countries, so why aren't you competitive.
I've been a tool and die maker for a long time and I have never seen a progressive stamping die quite like that one. The one consolation is that when of of those guys gets his arm caught in that 6-800 ton press, it reacts so fast that the amputation won't hurt until the next day
this type of thing is what got the unions started 100 yrs ago. its also what communist country looks like. the extremes of capitalism are bad just as communism is. cheap labor is only cheap when life loses its value.
Wow, truly a sad life for these workers. It's a shame that the Chinese and Americans behind their employment don't place a higher value on human life. If this is what globalization yields then it truly is a race to the bottom. If the machine malfunctions these workers could be killed. Chinese people are better off with a life of farming rice than living this way. Shame on America for condoning this by buying the products.
I think that press would operate faster without having those guys sitting in it. The Chinese have a relative advantage in the labor factor of the market, and a relative disadvantage in capital. You don't see people sitting in presses in the States because it's cheaper to do it mechanically, and run the press 4 times as fast.
China is more competitive from a broad spectrum due to two factors only: lack of onerous regulation and taxes, and a culture of savings and investment.
the german was telling me about his wheel factory and he was on a visit to china, they where shapping the wheels a dusty job, the german said you must have dust extraction on that job as it will kill the workers from lung dust, the china man manager said to the german, no need to worry we have 40 more outside waiting for this job.
Great video. Yah, this is a good way to cut costs if you don't care about your workers. But we should be able to maintain a much safer work environment than China while streamlining and simplifying the paperwork burder placed on employers which limit pay raises to employees and limit the number of people they can hire. Whatever your boss pays you, the actual cost to him of employing you is 5, 10, 20, 30 thousand more due to govt red tape/SS
@RuflessRecords Those safety laws are one of the reasons our jobs are flying overseas. The sooner we get rid of Marxist labor laws like osha and workmen's comp, the better.
@RuflessRecords All labor laws need to be axed. Give the government an inch in regulating business, they'll take a mile. The correct number of labor laws is zero.
@DarrelfromZeeland I don't think so. We can't imagine business is pure, just that they should be free, to the extent possible. We want some basic rules protecting miners a thousand feet underground, we want some basic penalty threats (like they have to pay for all cleanup and all damages caused to other businesses) against oil companies and their rigs, ships.
@RuflessRecords No business worth their salt would intentionally place their workers in undue danger. Do we have rules protecting cops, firemen, or the military or penalty threats against them? No we don't. They couldn't do their jobs if we did. So why should miners have them?
@DarrelfromZeeland the problem is the unsalted companies. And once you get into "intentionally" it gets hazy. A company may send workers into an unnecessarily risky situation but not "intend" they die.
The free market should reward with goodwill from customers those companies that do the right thing and hurt those that don't, but the gubbment has a limited role in some areas.
@RuflessRecords We tried accepting just a few laws. The libs just whined for more laws. Once they get their foot in the door, it's only the beginning of them forcing it open further to more and more controls. We should've kept the door sealed shut to begin with. One lesson from Munich is appeasement doesn't work.
@DarrelfromZeeland that's what 60 years, almost uninterrupted, of Democratic House control will get you...rules too cumbersome and expensive. You'll have to vote for about 60 years of rightwingers to undo it, and get back to just a few, common-sense labor laws.
thats right jnorth there's 100 people standing in line to take one of those spots! I'm a die maker in TN. and had to rework some brand new dies made in china. that a local factor bought. The factory had the chinese company come in to fix there own dies after two weeks and fustraited they sent them back to china and paid the company i work with to fix them. dies where pure junk !!!!!!!!! chinese probably still laughing "they got paid"
If it was a level playing field then the people you see in this video would belong to a union but i'll bet they don't. I'll also bet the factory owners kids will go to harvard.
How is the chinese the greatest race? If by 'greatest' you mean largest population then simple... Chinese breed faster than rabbits thinking that their children will care for them - often not the case. Since when is over population a good thing?
Most Chinese people are plain stupid! The Chinese in the US or in Hong Kong are very different to the ones in Mainland China. I know because I've visited all over!
Would "you look Chinese" be a compliment? Is having Chinese eyes a good thing?Hell NO!
if we look into the history we see the downfall of the great empires never happened in one day or a month or atleast a year. But considering the united states it made itself look like a bubble on the water. US is completely n its knees in front of china and who is to blame. some greedy corporates who made america a superpower and destroyed it with a blink of an eye.
the world wants a economically powerful china nothing bad is going to come of it b/c china is "strong". it's all relative. also, just to add, the chinese have to many us dollars (as well does the rest of the world) that the us is too big to fail. we're not going anywhere world
so in short we can't compete with China because our workers wont risk their lives for $0.17 an hr...
I love the guy thats bitching about OSHA... I mean dont get me wrong they are bullshit, but he says ask a 'OSHA roofer' LOL
but the fact remains, if your on a OSHA/MSHA job it really is safer, I can say that from experience as a Journeyman Ironworker, I wonder what all those fallen IW's would say about 100% tie off..... guessing they would agree
big disadvantage? OSHA is a pile of shit, EPA is a pile of sht, that is our disadvantage. If you think those organizations save lives, you are an ignorant bastard. OSHA is just a tax under the guise of "safety". Ask any OSHA roofer, they will tell you OSHA rules make roofing MORE life threatening, because they are a bunch of college educated dueschebags with no real life experiance. Maybe people should look at the safety records of a place, before they sit here and ASSume from a video.
@d1incharge OSHA needs to be repealed. It's the worker's responsibility to look out for their own safety, not the employer's. College educated, or more appropriately, Marxist indictrinated douchebags explains OSHitA perfectly.
Your an idiot. US companies don't own chinese factories, mainly because of all the problems that come with it and the fact that there isn't really any money to be made in manufacturing. For example when making a $200 ipod, the Chinese factory would probably get around 0.50-$1 in profit each.
Only Chinese engineers can think of designing manufacturing processes like this, and only Chinese businessmen dare to operate factories like these.
Why don't you actually read a little about china before you post sth as naive as that. No money to be made in manufacturing!? That is complete bullshit.
Using Nike as an example, it only costs like $3 to make a shoe, but when you sell it in the US it can costs like $30-$50 or whatever. Thats a VERY good profit.
Workers get paid like $150 a month...for a US company, it is very nice owning a factory in china.
That grubby ipod of yours shouldn't cost more than $30-50 to make...in china
You've said that there isn't money in manufacturing yourself, you just haven't realized it.
Typical retail price is 4 times of factory price (brand owner has 100% margin, then retailer has 100% margin on top). A shoe factory price of $25 results in a $100 retail price which means $75 profit for the brand owner (say Nike) and the retailer (perhaps Nike as well). The $25 factory price probably means just $5 in profit for the factory. So out of the $100 shoe, the factory gets a measly 5 bucks.
My point was, people who actually make the product don't earn much. The reason Nike setup manufacturing plants in China is because there weren't really any suitable Chinese owned manufacturers at the time.
These days companies don't bother setting up factories and just leave it up to the Chinese factory owners to manufacture as they have increased their standards.
I'm a 3rd year engineering design student and this is one of the things we learn - the process of manufacturing in the far east.
Sure if you put it that way, yes the factory does not earn that much per shoe....the thing is factory owners tend to own multiple factories. And each order for a particular shoe can be for tens of thousands of shoes. Not to mention a single factory does not only produce shoes to a single company, but to what orders they get from multiple companies.
I am a university student in Hong Kong, believe me we have plenty of rich China factory owners in our city. If you survive, it is highly profitable
Who gets the money? How will that money be invested? Owning a company in China might be a nice thing in one particular frame of reference, but when we take a look at the big picture, we are getting srcewed to high hell!!! US politicians and business owners are selfish enough to allow the bloodletting to continue. We ALL will pay for this in the end. We will pay dearly. Jobs. What jobs? The US doesn't produce anything anymore.
First of all, we are not talking about buying shares from local chinese companies. We are talking about US companies based in the US setting up factories in China.
Secondly, the US stopped being a serious manufacturing economy a long time ago. US car companies for example should've died out if not for gov't intervention. Manufacturing in the US is mostly high-tech industry which uses automation anyway.
US has one of the highest GDP in the world. You are "rich". Problem is the over-spending
I understand you. But, there is no need to argue about having one of the highest GDP in the world when jobs are being lost and nobody possesses the will to tell business owners that enough is enough. High tech industry? Automation? The human factor has been removed. Where are the blue collar jobs? Who makes damn near everything that we touch? No offense to China, but those companies should bring the jobs back home!!! Damn cheap labor!!!!!!!!!
Talk about overspending. The 2 wars that are being waged simultaneously are costly efforts with no apparent returns. Osama Bin Laden is still on the loose. Furthermore, the peoples advocates, members of the US congress, are playing politics EVERYBODY is playing THE GAME!!! No such thing as an honest hard days work anymore. Everybody seems to want something for nothing. Monies are being spent on the wrong things for all of the wrong reasons. Favors are the order of the day!!!!!
FRACTIONAL RESERVE BANKING is the cause of most of the problems we have- Without sound money you have..all of what we have now...I think the checks due..stay here I need to run out to the car and get my wallet lol
um. How is the US going to compete with the world then if you want to rely solely on manpower to do the job? With high-tech goods you cannot even rely on a human to do the jobs anyway. Can a human place 10 thousand transistors into a computer chip the size of your thumb? You need machines, it is faster, cheaper, and more precise. The human just presses the buttons that guide the machine.
You are proposing that america stop progressing. Technology is everything in the world today.
@spartacandream You can also turn that argument around and say that the US is not competitive because America's Union groups are making american products and goods too expensive.
Comment in this video is highly MISLEADING. US is not at UNFAIR advantage.
These workers work in very dangerous, high risk environments. They are cheaper but chance of accidents happen a lot more. So no, this is a FAIR advantage.
So in turn, you dum American, your reprimanding the setup of this machine, as if it didn't take intelligent designs to make the machine. Europeans and Jews for centuries have used man assisted machinery. this is not dangerous, granted the men in their are professionals who take their job seriously. Your truly an idiot for talking about safety issues. your the reason people don't have job's.. they are replacing these average jobs with machines.. for "safety" no wonder the world is getting stupid
Holy Fuck alive in hell !!! I couldn't believe my eyes, even though the lower half of the die could withstand the weight, this is extremely stupid and dangerous.
we are all slaves, american businesses were given all expense s paid to move to china and losses covered for 10 years, it is a plan of centralization for the elite. china be the main place of production while we are depopulated . it a nice plan the elite have for all of us.
Who care if Chinaman gets squished below giant press? They jus pull out carcass and put another one in. Nobody know and nobody care. No can get lawyer to sue for family because buisness own China, not the people, so you all flucked.
It seems like we forget that things like food and homes aren't owed to anyone; they are things that need to be earned. We stole our land from Native Americans, made wealth with REAL slaves, and industrialized our nation with labor conditions similar to these. Now we are too attached to luxury and safety to do the hard work that needs to be done to maintain our lifestyle. The Chinese, however, are willing. It's not their fault we lost our strength and are too tied to luxury.
China will suffer really bad but trust me, China will never feel the pain Amerikkka is feeling right now. 25 million unemployeement? is that a joke, do you actually know what is the total number of China's working force???25 mill is a small factor of the work force.
What are you complaining about? They're obviously wearing rubber protective gloves to protect their sensitive skin. You should have seen the factories when the American imperialists owned them and Fruit of the Loom had a boxer rebellion. :)
You see no health and safety and these people are working for peanuts! No wonder we are all f....d in the west! We have allowed(with little say in the matter) companies to undermine our whole economy for PURE GREED.This is the key point in the fraudulent and mismanaged wetern economy and has helped lead to the complete mess we are in now!!
This is UNREAL!! I have never seen a die fed by hand with no protection for the operator. I guess when you have 1.3 billion people you can lose a few workers.

I think that press would operate faster without having those guys sitting in it. The Chinese have a relative advantage in the labor factor of the market, and a relative disadvantage in capital. You don't see people sitting in presses in the States because it's cheaper to do it mechanically, and run the press 4 times as fast.
China is more competitive from a broad spectrum due to two factors only: lack of onerous regulation and taxes, and a culture of savings and investment.

competitive c-o-m-p-e-t-i-t-i-v-e, competitive
Great video. Yah, this is a good way to cut costs if you don't care about your workers. But we should be able to maintain a much safer work environment than China while streamlining and simplifying the paperwork burder placed on employers which limit pay raises to employees and limit the number of people they can hire. Whatever your boss pays you, the actual cost to him of employing you is 5, 10, 20, 30 thousand more due to govt red tape/SS
RuflessRecords 1 year ago
@RuflessRecords Those safety laws are one of the reasons our jobs are flying overseas. The sooner we get rid of Marxist labor laws like osha and workmen's comp, the better.
DarrelfromZeeland 1 year ago
@DarrelfromZeeland we need some basic common sense worker protection laws and the rest needs to be axed. Limit the government baby!
RuflessRecords 1 year ago
@RuflessRecords All labor laws need to be axed. Give the government an inch in regulating business, they'll take a mile. The correct number of labor laws is zero.
DarrelfromZeeland 1 year ago
@DarrelfromZeeland but y if no laws means a company can abuse a worker u cant deny that
nfwvideo 1 year ago
@nfwvideo No business owner or ceo worth their salt would intentionally mistreat their workers.
DarrelfromZeeland 1 year ago
@DarrelfromZeeland I don't think so. We can't imagine business is pure, just that they should be free, to the extent possible. We want some basic rules protecting miners a thousand feet underground, we want some basic penalty threats (like they have to pay for all cleanup and all damages caused to other businesses) against oil companies and their rigs, ships.
RuflessRecords 1 year ago
@RuflessRecords No business worth their salt would intentionally place their workers in undue danger. Do we have rules protecting cops, firemen, or the military or penalty threats against them? No we don't. They couldn't do their jobs if we did. So why should miners have them?
DarrelfromZeeland 1 year ago
@DarrelfromZeeland the problem is the unsalted companies. And once you get into "intentionally" it gets hazy. A company may send workers into an unnecessarily risky situation but not "intend" they die.
The free market should reward with goodwill from customers those companies that do the right thing and hurt those that don't, but the gubbment has a limited role in some areas.
C'mon just buckle under and accept a few laws.
RuflessRecords 1 year ago
@RuflessRecords We tried accepting just a few laws. The libs just whined for more laws. Once they get their foot in the door, it's only the beginning of them forcing it open further to more and more controls. We should've kept the door sealed shut to begin with. One lesson from Munich is appeasement doesn't work.
DarrelfromZeeland 1 year ago
@DarrelfromZeeland that's what 60 years, almost uninterrupted, of Democratic House control will get you...rules too cumbersome and expensive. You'll have to vote for about 60 years of rightwingers to undo it, and get back to just a few, common-sense labor laws.

thats right jnorth there's 100 people standing in line to take one of those spots! I'm a die maker in TN. and had to rework some brand new dies made in china. that a local factor bought.
I know because I've visited all over!

if we look into the history we see the downfall of the great empires never happened in one day or a month or atleast a year. But considering the united states it made itself look like a bubble on the water.

Maybe people should look at the safety records of a place, before they sit here and ASSume from a video.
d1incharge 2 years ago
@d1incharge OSHA needs to be repealed. It's the worker's responsibility to look out for their own safety, not the employer's. College educated, or more appropriately, Marxist indictrinated douchebags explains OSHitA perfectly.

edc0006 2 years ago
Your an idiot. US companies don't own chinese factories, mainly because of all the problems that come with it and the fact that there isn't really any money to be made in manufacturing. For example when making a $200 ipod, the Chinese factory would probably get around 0.50-$1 in profit each.
Only Chinese engineers can think of designing manufacturing processes like this, and only Chinese businessmen dare to operate factories like these.
wballe88 2 years ago
Why don't you actually read a little about china before you post sth as naive as that. No money to be made in manufacturing!? That is complete bullshit.
Using Nike as an example, it only costs like $3 to make a shoe, but when you sell it in the US it can costs like $30-$50 or whatever. Thats a VERY good profit.
Workers get paid like $150 a month...for a US company, it is very nice owning a factory in china.
That grubby ipod of yours shouldn't cost more than $30-50 to make...in china
brianng999 2 years ago
You've said that there isn't money in manufacturing yourself, you just haven't realized it.
Typical retail price is 4 times of factory price (brand owner has 100% margin, then retailer has 100% margin on top). A shoe factory price of $25 results in a $100 retail price which means $75 profit for the brand owner (say Nike) and the retailer (perhaps Nike as well). The $25 factory price probably means just $5 in profit for the factory. So out of the $100 shoe, the factory gets a measly 5 bucks.
wballe88 2 years ago
My point was, people who actually make the product don't earn much. The reason Nike setup manufacturing plants in China is because there weren't really any suitable Chinese owned manufacturers at the time.
These days companies don't bother setting up factories and just leave it up to the Chinese factory owners to manufacture as they have increased their standards.
I'm a 3rd year engineering design student and this is one of the things we learn - the process of manufacturing in the far east.
wballe88 2 years ago
Sure if you put it that way, yes the factory does not earn that much per shoe....the thing is factory owners tend to own multiple factories. And each order for a particular shoe can be for tens of thousands of shoes. Not to mention a single factory does not only produce shoes to a single company, but to what orders they get from multiple companies.
I am a university student in Hong Kong, believe me we have plenty of rich China factory owners in our city. If you survive, it is highly profitable
brianng999 2 years ago
Who gets the money? How will that money be invested? Owning a company in China might be a nice thing in one particular frame of reference, but when we take a look at the big picture, we are getting srcewed to high hell!!! US politicians and business owners are selfish enough to allow the bloodletting to continue. We ALL will pay for this in the end. We will pay dearly. Jobs. What jobs? The US doesn't produce anything anymore.
kevinjones238 2 years ago
First of all, we are not talking about buying shares from local chinese companies. We are talking about US companies based in the US setting up factories in China.
Secondly, the US stopped being a serious manufacturing economy a long time ago. US car companies for example should've died out if not for gov't intervention. Manufacturing in the US is mostly high-tech industry which uses automation anyway.
US has one of the highest GDP in the world. You are "rich". Problem is the over-spending
brianng999 2 years ago
I understand you. But, there is no need to argue about having one of the highest GDP in the world when jobs are being lost and nobody possesses the will to tell business owners that enough is enough. High tech industry? Automation? The human factor has been removed. Where are the blue collar jobs? Who makes damn near everything that we touch? No offense to China, but those companies should bring the jobs back home!!! Damn cheap labor!!!!!!!!!
kevinjones238 2 years ago
Talk about overspending. The 2 wars that are being waged simultaneously are costly efforts with no apparent returns. Osama Bin Laden is still on the loose. Furthermore, the peoples advocates, members of the US congress, are playing politics EVERYBODY is playing THE GAME!!! No such thing as an honest hard days work anymore. Everybody seems to want something for nothing. Monies are being spent on the wrong things for all of the wrong reasons. Favors are the order of the day!!!!!

jsmythib 2 years ago
