I KNEW I WASN"T CRAZY !!!! well, crazier than usual. "heheh" I vagley rememberd the show about the horse "Thunder" as a kid. In 5th grade, our teacher gave all of our class a paperback based on Thunder. Don't really remember the show, but the book was great.Read it and reread it till it fell apart. The NBC bumper is the 1st one I really remember as a kid,
right about this time there was a "spin off of Casper the friendly Ghost, but he was much "cuter". His name was "Smoo" ( not sure of the spelling). Does anybody remember him?
@david640 - Yeah, it was actually Shmoo... you were close. I always thought he was a Scooby ripoff, but I still watched when I was but a wee lad. Saturday mornings are never going to be like they were when we were kids. And that's a mammoth shame.
Get up before the adults, get a bowl of your favorite cereal, plop yourself down in front of the TV for 5 or 6 hours of animated goodness. Saturday mornings, to me, were a sort of reward for making it thru the school week.
@quazzie11 : Actually, the Shmoo predates Casper and Scooby Doo... he first appeared in the comic strip "Li'l Abner" in the 40s. The Shmoos were a race of animals who only wanted to please humans... if a human wanted to kill & eat a Shmoo, he would die of happiness on the spot!! They were immensely popular, spawning an avalance of merchandise. FF to the 70s where he was "updated" for Saturday morning tv with a Scooby Doo-like cartoon show, which was horrible...
I love The Land of the Lost when i was growing up during 1970s and before cable and before dish network And P.C. we had outdoor antenna we get NBC and CBS and ABC they were the rulers of airwave back in the 70s
I remember that one; I liked the Saturday morning lineup they had until they canceled "The Archie and Sabrina Hour" and replaced it with "Go Go Globetrotters".
"Land of the Lost" was originally on NBC in 1974. It later showed up in reruns on CBS in 1984- that's when I saw it. A new version of "Land of the Lost" was on ABC in the early 90s, with Timothy Bottoms. But the CBS run in the 80s was reruns of the 70s NBC shows.
"Land of the Lost" was originally on NBC in 1974; CBS reran it in 1984. The CBS run was reruns of the original 70s show. A new version of "Land of the Lost" starring Timothy Bottoms, with completely different human characters and a different theme song, came out in the early 90s on ABC.
I used to argue with my cousin when the new version came out. I never saw it at the time, so when he would sing the theme song to LOTL I would say "No, that's not the theme song", and sing the original.
There was ample opportunity to record programs off TV for those willing to pay for tapes. 3/4" Umatic came out in 1971, Beta in 1975, and VHS in 1976. I want everyone's old tapes when they die. :D
Of course there's been increased production values, as is obviously bound to happen with the pass of time. But the true quality of a program isn't measured by how high tech it is. You'd think that one who's old enough to type sentences, is old enough to understand that.
NBC pretty much quit showing cartoons a long time ago, all they show now is discovery animals and a bunch of educational stuff.

It seems like they would only run slides like that, for that long a time, during technical difficulties. Was that the case here?

Cool NBC Fun Machine 1977-1978 Saturday Morning Bumper, for 1978-1979 the bumper was "Saturday Morning Fever is on the rise on NBC".

And a year before 1977-1978 (in 1976-1977) NBC's bumper theme was "Smilin' Saturday Mornin'".
