I came here this morning, wanting to hear some of the old tunes from growing up in Wilkinsburg in the 50s/60s -- the bonus was seeing some photos of the old Burgh.
Remember KQV, Schenley Oval, the many drive-in movies, Forbes Field, Saturday morning art classes at the Carnegie Museum, and of course listening to the great Porky Chedwick on a transistor radio under my pillow. Thanks for the memories.
this was truly a pittsburgh song. often wondered if it caught on in any other city the way it caught on here. glad TL is back on the air. i love this city.
Long before KDKA was an all news station in the Iron City this was a staple on their playlist.It is as Pittsburgh as Bob Prince..and Dennis Miller Wow what a great oldie !!!
Terry Lee is streaming live on the internet Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday nights from 8-Midnight. Go to his website tlsoundco (youtube won't let me put the url). Click on TL's Live Feed on the left. Or go to his Facebook page: Terry Lee Music For Young Lovers. You can chat with other Pittsburghers there also.
I still play my original 45 that I bought at the National Record Mart in East Liberty while attending Peabody High School (class of 1969). Scott English sounds as good now as he did over forty years ago. Pittsburgh oldies never die!!!
I listen to this song every day. I downloaded it from Itunes. Thanks for the most beautiful photos of Pittsburgh and for knowing this song still exists. Reminds me of my high schoo days.
~~~kenzeetwo VERY NICE AWESOME FOOTAGE~~THANK YOU FOR POSTING!!!~~~AWWWW YES~~~DOO WOP~~~THE "HILLS" OF PITTSBURGH PENNSYLVANIA~~~& WOULD NOT BE COMPLETE WITHOUT TERRY LEE'S MUSIC FOR YOUNG LOVERS~~~& NOW IT HAS COME FULL CIRCLE WITH TERRY LEE BACK IN THE BURG & BACK ON THE AIR!!!!~WELCOME BACK TL!!! YOU HAVE BEEN MISSED SOOO MUCH!!!
I didnt' think anyone in the entire world would know or remember this song. I have an original 45 RPM of this "record". Can't believe I found it on the internet, and it has all of these incredible photos of my hometown of Pittsburgh. It is surely a doowoop city for as long as all of us remember these songs. Thanks for posting this.
kenzeetwo - there ARE still oldies dances. You just have to know where to look. Take your sweetheart on a romantic stroll down memory lane. Keep an eye on the Dr. Doo Wop calendar for dance events!
Presently western Pennsylvania is setting records for snowfall. We have now received more snow this month (February 2010) than any other month. Western Pennsylvania is also known for recognizing great music. This song High On A Hill By Scott English is all time Western Pennsylvania favorite.
Terry Lee from WMCK used to play this all the time. This was one of two songs ALWAYS played at the end of a dance. The other was "Goodnight Sweetheart"
Great song! Ahhh yes..... cruising in my 66 Pontiac with the windows down during those warm, late summer nights and listening to KQV and WTAE. I remember portions of the sky would glow pink from the steel mills working at night. Going to those dances in McKeesport. Hanging out at Eat-N-Park with my friends from high school. It is all gone now. Sigh..
This was and continues to be a steel city favorite.When KDKA was a top 40 station owned by Westinghouse group W This song got tons of airplay all across the east and midwest on the 50,000 watt blowtorch that was and is KDKA 1020am.Clark Race resurrected this when he used to play the oldies nightly at 7pm right after 60 at 6.This also pulled lots of airplay on the old ABC O&O top 40 outlet KQV in Pittsburgh.This is a GREAT oldie!!!!
My first dance, the first slow song I ever danced to, in Pittsburgh, at the Heinz House dance night. Great memories. Thanks!
Yeah, no more dances, and not too many drive-in movies left ether.
It's the memories that keeps these oldies alive just like the ones you mentioned.
