I don't think it's fair to blame Barbara's behavior on James. She acted like that before she married him too. She just always has been incredibly self-centered, prone to grand romantic gestures, and with an unfortunate tendency to get bored if not shallowly entertained all the time which is what did in marriage to Hal time and again and again. After you didn't believe Henry about Brad, I'd believe him about Barbara. "A little bit of Iris goes a long way."
