forgot to mention the speed limit in nyc is 30 mph, and withe the traffic in mahattan , it is faster to walk accross town faster then a 4500 pound taxi that is the size of 6 of these vehices and gets 14 mpg,

I can see it working for a handicapped individual...the modifications would have to be a chasis that would accomodate a wheel Chair. Obviously lots of things should be taken int account, ie compatability, controls and self checking locks etc. Other than that its really one stupit looking idea since there is absolutely no way you can go on a normal NYC street with that thing. Yes it is totally awesome. But there is no Segway PT dealer here in the Philippines. Apparently a personal unit would cost around $5,000 which is expensive compared to 1/3 price of a brand new car. Further, there are some countries that would not allow Segway on the main roads, perhaps this the reason why Segway has not been successful in penetrating the markets. But the product would really address global warming issues, the ever increasing prices of oil and many others.

What people fail to see is that at under 50 cc in most areas you don't need a license to operate a motor vehicle.
