  • that's nice

  • I have an original one of these engines but I not really familar with the diffrence between standard and 0 guage. The locomotive I have runs on O guage track but has the standard guage couplers shown here. Is the scale of the engines different or the the guage of the track?

  • Wow that is a nice engine. It's filling the room with smoke. That's 1 reason why I like steam engines so much, the smoke output.

  • I have a tinplate 263e Blue Comet set, the most beautiful train I have.

  • If it has the Lionel logo on it, then why does it have MTH sounds?

  • @james1234434 The new "Lionel Corporation" is a joint venture between Lionel and MTH that allows MTH to make tinplate trains with the Lionel name on them. MTH bought many of the original tinplate toolings from Lionel a long time ago and has been making tinplate trains for years now...but always without the Lionel name. With the new Lionel Corporation, MTH can now add the Lionel name to the tinplate trains.

  • does this have passenger sounds?

  • I have 4 pre war standard gauge cars from lionel, a gondola, a flatcar with wood load, and 2 new york central passenger cars, need a locomoitve. Would love to have that.

  • how expensive are these engines? They must be expensive...

  • @BERRYKIRBY4 Around $900 for one of these.

  • @esiegel76 wow.

  • Very well done video, I almost suspected you were a spokesman for MTH. Great web page also. Really worth looking at.-TM

  • Nice sounds on those and smoke. I have a Lionel steamer, bit don't get it out often and the smoke unit needs some work, it'll heat up the smoke, but once it gets goin, it doesn't puff asuch smoke. Wish I had a vintage prewar blue comet set though, don't have any tinplate yet, but hopefully soon.

  • Is it all right to collect trains of both scales?

  • @Trainmaster189 It's not against the law or anything. :)

  • very nice i havent gone that far back yet in lionel train my oldst is my 1936-37 1668e set but working on geting some of the new set like the wizard of oz and a cristmas story set then i can go back to my older ones

  • I do like the fact that MTH do prewar tinplates and lionel doing coventional classics beceause it gives us people of today a chance to travel back in time to see what Lionel products used to look like in the past. Maybe 50+ years from now, people will collect our trains & MTH & Lionel will recreate today's products with new features that haven't been invented yet. What if a person from the 30's travel to the future (today) and see diesels with digital sounds controlled by multi-train remotes.

  • Even though I'm not a big fan of Standard Gauge but, I do love the 400E. In Tinplate O Gauge, the Lionel 260E and similar steamers resembles the 400E. Even the the baby Blue Comet steamers share the same look as the BC 400E. The differences are the 400E has a bell on it's smokebox door and the 260 style steamers have white flags or red lights on them.

  • Great review and video. Thanks for sharing!

  • Is the speaker in the engine or the tender? I've noticed with my 4696 model, the chuff and whistle are pretty anemic compared to, say the 384E or 390E. I suspect the Vandy tender doesn't leave enough room for a speaker,, but it's too bad because the sound differences are significant.

  • @bluecomet390 All the digital components, including the speaker, are in the engine, which I've never seen on a PS2 engine before. Pretty neat. The tender is empty.

  • It's stupid how MTH sell command and conventional for the same price. It should be at least $100 cheaper.

  • @Weiberts Actually, I think it's a smart marketing by MTH. Keep in mind that many of the people who buy tinplate are older people who might not have gone digital yet. By making the DCS version the same price as the conventional version, it encourages these people to go digital and at the same time it introduces them to the MTH brand. So, it's not that the conventional version is overpriced, it's that the PS2 version is a little underpriced in order to get older people into digital trains.

  • @esiegel76 Oh. That's true. But even with most Premier and RailKing engines, it's the same.

  • @esiegel76 I recently purchased an MTH O Scale 360 engine because I wanted the PS2. That was the deal maker for me.

  • Amazing Engine!!!

    Great review

  • Where do you live? What's your phone number? What do you do for a living? Do you have any kids?

  • I live in Boise, ID. My phone number is 555-555-1212. I make moonshine for a living. I have 16 kids.

  • y dose it have a diseal horn?

  • @ejerailroad9999 it doesn't.

  • Wonderful whistle. It looks as if there is a slot on the pilot for another standard gauge coupler.

  • That's one swagger train!

  • great stuff...awesome vid

  • wow. it looks great

  • Nice engine! Even though i never liked tin plate, it's totally diecast! How's the layouts going?
