Beautiful chickens! But a warning to everyone..... If you get just hens then one of the hens might become the leader of the flock and start crowing......
Those are really nice looking blues! The chap saying "Buffers" are much bigger? Firstly there is no recognised breed called "Buffers" and secondly the Cochin is the heaviest fowl at 13lbs when matures, though maturing can take 18 months to 2 years. Have a look at some of these.
Can you eat them? If so do you preffer to cut their necks off while hanging upside down; or does this species not care how they are butchered. Pardon for this open-ended question. They just look like they would make wonderful roasts...
Those are not large fowl btw if u were curious lady. They are pretty animals n all but ..our Buffer Hen's are way bigger than yer Rooster there...and our Buffer Rooster's head would be near the top of the arm wrest on that chair in the video ... those are relatively average sized chickens u have those aren't large breeds . Get yerself some buffers if u want actual large chickens ;) Fantastic accent tho
Lovely and beautiful! We just bought some blue cochins from a breeder. They are quite young, I believe the girls are 5-6 weeks and the roo is 6 or 7 weeks. Actually the roo is white not blue. Anyways, I was wondering if you could give me some tips? I hear to keep them away from mud, because it causes matting in their feathers right? And do they get along with other breeds aswell? We're keeping them seperate from our other hens till they're bigger.
Georgous birds! I'm looking for a few buddies for my red sussex, they seem to have the same friendly/quiet temperment as our Emma. Thanks to your vid, I'm decided! (along with a white frazzle)
Beautiful birds. Quite fuzzy! They are very lucky to have such a nice living arrangement, and have someone who cares for them so. Best wishes to you all!
@1toscany mate i have Rhode Island Reds, Cochins and Australorps, Rhode island reds are very very friendly but the cochins are extreme firendly, they follow you all around the garden and love hand feeding, if you sit on floor they will jump all over you, fearless chickens, before cochins and australorps i was thinking the rodeys best temper chickens,
They are so beautiful. I raise chickens and I have never seen a gray cochin! I love them they are so pretty and sweet and obviously well taken care of.
What are you feeding them in the video? They seemed to like it a lot. I am heartbroken as my grey pekin was killed by a dog today. I have a brown red and a rooster left to keep me sane but I am devastated. They really do become your family don' t they. So much personality. Best pet ever!
I'm gonna buy two Blue Cochins as soon as I raise enough money for the coop!!! I'm only 147 dollars away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want black ones, but I don't want to mail order them, and the only hatchery near me sells blue ones and white ones.
I'm gonna get a boy and a girl, and name them billy bob and bobby bill.
I have a blue cochin and a buff cochin - both hens. They make awesome pets and are beautiful to look at. Mine come into my kitchen to steal my cat's food! They make me laugh and they're great company. I love my cochins!
i love cochins!!!! Im getting 5 blue and 5 black. I cant wait, i also am getting 5 speckled sussexes. I love that you are taking great care of those birds but in your house they might need a higher roost. But over all well done!!!!!! Thanks for the video
These birds are very vicious! They will strike without warning. My wife had her eye put out by one because she would not feed the birds at a particular time. Very demanding birds, especially the rooster who are extremely nervous around little ones. Buyer beware! This woman is nuts! These are direct descendants of the dinosaur. They are very dangerous creatures. I would compare them to a snake, or bear trying to protect a cub. Cover your eyes or wear eye protection when handling!
@bostonbrew1 Hahahahaha....look how silly you are. Cochins are so calm and sweet they are practically unconscious. There IS one serious danger though--that they will remain stuck to your lap. They never want to get down! :)
If you just keep hens you will be fine. Wouldn't recommend the keeping of any cockerals if you want to remain on friendly terms with nearby neighbours.
If you spend abit of time feeding them reguarily and at a certain time of day you will be suprised how quickly this breed will catch on. You wont be able to leave the house without being followed! They are naturally a tame variety.
They are lovely!

My chickens are so tame they will jump on you. I would have love to raise cochins but they are very rare in the Philippines.

@SquirrelMan1313 If you get chicks and gently handle them they will grow up very cuddly. :)
