  • those three dislikes find good music a little too much

  • its sad that george's songwriting was sorta restricted by paul and john.

  • happy birthday George, 69 years, it's a pitty

  • this song puts everything in perspective

  • have a piece of birthday cake.... but not too much! :)

  • ´WOOOWWW, first electronic drum effect??? For me, this song is the most revolutionary one, in second place is "tomorrow never knows". In this one George show us his greatest and genius. John and Paul became a litlle afraid after this. Geroge, the best beatle.

  • toomuchtoomuchtoomuchtoomuch

  • George whips it out !!!

  • Loved this song at the end of Yellow Submarine.

  • i believe this embodies the full-rich feel of what psychedelics were about. happy rich sounds. Harrisson was quite the writer, think people just realizing how talented he was. miss you George...miss you Johnny...

  • It sounds just like Lennon singing it..........

  • @GameJourney

No, it's George singing. He wrote and sang this song.

  • That's John,"to your Mother" (dedication to Mother Earth) listen to the lyrics--cosmic consciousness deep deep stuff there by George. (the quiet one packs quite a wallop)

  • It is all birthday cake...it is too much!!!

  • The Beatles are saying no matter where you're at... There you are!

  • What is George saying at the beginning? "To your mother?"

  • @dumbangel75 thought he shouts 'Sue your ma!'

but that wouldn't make sense. or would it?

  • This song fills your ears and mind with pure Beatles, George asked John to help him in the studio he reluctantly agreed and what do we have? the most Beatle sound there is. So who really was the main Beatle John or Paul my vote John. The whole was greater than the sum of the parts tho.............

  • @tommy5959

no offense but HUH? the most Beatles sound there is? Dont get it...i dont know if there is such a song..thats the beauty of the group..

  • @tommy5959 George is me favorite ;^) All things must pass, my bible!

  • one of George's best songs. LOVE IT.

  • Ringo was playing the tambourine. <3 Just saying. :)

  • Enlightnement doesn't present a big picture. It present another picture, one you don't see, here an now, this instant. From there, you may or may not address "big pictures." It's not important since "big pictures" are created by the unenlightened. The enlightened are not, in fact, your slaves and may not care about your politics or life or personality.

  • @vcx9dfne

    I completely understand that.

    Trippy.

  • Yellow Submarine, I think

  • Which Beatles record has this version on it ??? It's TOO MUCH

  • Only The Beatles could turn a chant of "too much" into "tuba" and then "Cuba." LOL.

  • My personal belief is John was enlightened. He saw the bigger picture born in the right time and right place. I do think though if He was we all can be enlightened. He was not perfect lol by far just like all of us. He just lived from the heart. there are many of us who are enlighten and dont know it,. lol Just living life

  • Why couldn't this have been the released version? It's so much better. Was ego tripping about not having the longest Beatles song or something?

  • @ColtVonInc I meant to say "was John ego tripping". My mistake, haha.

  • Some really polite and interesting discussion on this page: rare for youtube!

  • Should've been the anthem of 1967 if John and Paul had taken the talent this man had seriously. The song has all the hallmarks of something anthemic. It's the only song i can think of where Ringo Starr actually messes up, and McCartney plays out of tune. This song deserved so much better. (And Ringo would've given it most definitely. )

  • redletter2008 Thank you for answer. I even agree what you say about "Only a Northern Song". The middle part is lovely!. This song and "It´s All Too Much" are even b e t t e r than Pepper´s title song and "Lovely Rita". They are included just because of McCartney´s pyramidal status after "Yesterday".

Something happened with Harisson´s composing 1967. And then came the lovely "The Inner Light" in Marsh 1968. Suddenly he became a marvellous composer. It was sensationel.

  • Harrison at his best!

  • I absolutely love the trumpets in this song

  • does the RIFF in this song sound similar to riff in Michael Jackson's "Black or White" ?

  • @607sunrise: If it is - Michael "appropriated" it from George. George wrote this in 1967. ()Wistfully:) This coulda been a bonus track on "Yellow Submarine". Sigh.....

  • It´s All Too Much, is one of the best late Beatles songs!. But since it is written by George Harrison is not so well-known as it ought to be. If it was written by McCartney the whole world would have talked about it, and written about in all books. The song was written 1967 and could have been in the Sgt Peppar album instead of for example Lovely Rita and Getting Better.

  • @Johan93888 Agreed. It is completely worthy of Sgt. Pepper, MMT or release as a single (IMO). What a great psychedelic, yet accessible little rock song. I don't get the obscurity or lack of respect shown to the song by the Beatles. It's every bit as good as Lucy In the Skies or any of Paul's Sgt. Pepper tracks. It would have fit perfectly on Sgt. Pepper or MMT. But then I though Only A Northern Song was Pepper worthy too. I guess the Beatles (Paul and/or John at least) thought otherwise.

  • the best harrison's song

  • TO JORMA!

  • @RubberSoulRevolver91

Well done! How did you get the tracks of various Beatle songs? I didn't know it was possible.

  • I'm confused... where did this long version come from? Where is it released?

  • @litlgrey It was never officially released, it's only been bootlegged. The version in the movie Yellow Submarine the version on the soundtrack album are both edited, but not identically.

  • @Druffmaul Ahh, thank you!

  • 2 people should be shot

  • excelente version!!!!!!!!!!!!!! viva george harrison!!!

  • TOO MUCH TOO MUCH TOO MUCH TOO MUCH

  • In the beginning George says "To your mu(or mo)"

  • @fajitaRBguy01111 It's speculated that it was John Lennon, saying, "To Your Mother!"

  • When I look into your eyes, your love is there for me And the more I go inside, the more there is to see Floating down the stream of time, of life to life with me Makes no difference where you are or where you'd like to be It's all too much for me to take The love that's shining all around here All the world's a birthday cake, So take a piece but not too much Set me on a silver sun, for I know that I'm free Show me that I'm everywhere, and get me home for tea
  • am i the only one who feels this a a religious meanning behind it

  • that one dislike obvioulsly must be either blind or deaf or just plain dumb

  • @panchobbk

    They're deaf, dumb and blind!

    Or bloody ignorant!

  • @panchobbk It was just "too much" for them.

See what i did there? ;D

  • @panchobbk might have been Paul McCartney !

  • @panchobbk

I bet he can't even play pinball

  • @panchobbk or Tommy.

  • @panchobbk and he sure plays a mean pinball

  • "we are dead..."

  • Comment removed

  • Go on George 's supporters! no " Dislike " !

  • Does anyone have the lyrics to this version? I can't seem to find them anywhere.

  • @Madferit71 The lyrics for the released version are easy to find. First verse is same First chorus is same Second verse is same Second chorus is same Third verse is same Third chorus: It's all too much for me to take There's plenty there for everybody The more you give, the more you get The more it is, and it's too much Fourth verse: Nice to have the time to take This opportunity Time for me to look at you And you to look at me Fourth chorus is same as third chorus of released version
  • @Madferit71 Anytime you want the lyrics to any Beatles song you go to a site called Steve's Beatles.

  • exelente!!!!

  • LONG LIVE GEORGE HARRISON! This is definitely George at his best. The first time I heard this song, I fell in love with it.

  • "there's plenty there for everybody, the more you give the more you get, the more it is and it's too much. Nice to have the time to take this opp-or-tu-ni-teeee time for me to look at you and you to look at meeeeee" Wow beautiful. Seems like the most important verse of the song is cut out of the short version though--too bad.

  • @dsdontsurf The remastered version seems quite a bit awkward cutting that bit out! Best version by far!!!

  • @dsdontsurf

I completely agree, its by far they most touching part of the song.

  • @dsdontsurf Definitely agree with you on the missing lyric. Of course any version of this song is still a masterpiece in its own right.

  • Amazing!

  • he really should stood up for himself....this song so deserves to be on their main albums

  • @0652411 3 (McCartney/Lennon/Martin) against 1 is hardly a winning battle. It was said that Martin had to get Lennon & McCartney to stop laughing and wasting recording time while making this song. No wonder a song like Isn't It A Pity took around 4 years to finally make it to an album. George should've gotten out of this band when they sold "Don't Bother me" without asking him if he wanted to buy it back.

  • Very excellent!!!

  • 168 & O!

  • This is all too much! Thanks George!!

  • to jomor

  • @shelley9000 Well, Lou Reed called the Beatles a "pop group". I wouldn't go that far, but I've always thought the songs on Sgt. Pepper were a little too middle of the road for me--not lyrically, of course, but the arrangements were tampered way down, no real guitar solos or anything like that. To illustrate my point, I would say that I am familiar with a lot of symphonic or MOR covers of these songs, but almost none that are heavy. They just aren't that type of songs.

  • My band just posted our cover of this song, with sitars and stuff all over it. Hope George would approve.

  • I got the chance to meet George a week before he died he told me be gentle always and always forgive I will take these words and try to change the world with them

  • Best Beatles song. perfect on the album. Hey Bulldog, Its all to Much, All you Need is Love!!

  • I wasn't there but the guitar sounds like mostly John to me...Not a dis of George here. He likely knew that John could pull it off & instructed him to this end. 'Makes me wonder if George was doing something more intricate here that's buried in the mix...(i must get a good copy of this & listen more intently.) Thanx for posting this!

  • @dragonflyshards George Harrison – vocals, lead guitar, Hammond organ John Lennon – lead guitar, harmony vocals Paul McCartney – bass, harmony vocals Ringo Starr – drums, tambourine

David Mason and three uncredited – trumpets Paul Harvey – bass clarinet

  • @tjsmith51 Sounds way more like a Vox Continental than a Hammond. Sounds like the same setting on the Vox that the Monkees used on I'm A Believer.

  • Wish I could actually see them playing this song....

  • What's always been amazing to me is that this was recorded the same time as Sgt. Pepper, which was way too pop for me. This would've given Sgt. Pepper the balls it lacked.

  • @interestingfailure The funny thing is that Sgt. Pepper isn't pop at all. Do you still think that way now about it? I'd seriously like to know. To me, looking back and hearing songs, it doesn't matter what category they fall into anymore. Would love to hear your opinion.

  • i can tell this is from 1966-1967 era because of the drumming style ringo uses. those fills are kickass

  • I would do anything to hear this extended version in Stereo :(

  • They need to release the full version of this along with a bunch of other unreleased stuff.

  • Actually, the full version is 8:35. This is 25 seconds too short.

  • One of the best Beatle songs.Love those Harrisongs

  • R.I.P. George Harrison... God Bless you......you'll live forever with your music!

  • Incredible guitar work--thanks for sharing!

  • This. Is. AWESOME!! :)

  • jumping in. have been a fan since 1972 when I was just walking, but could hear what my older brother was playing on his stereo. it wasn't until I was about 14 that I really started to explore the full extent of the Beatles. This song, like Rain, Hey Bulldog and Happiness is.. really struck home. I love a very diverse range of music, lots of current stuff, but their originality and brilliance really will live forever.

George - I remember you well, always.

  • hard to find this on cd anywhere, love this version

  • Agree beachdog. After 1966 George is my favourite songwriter in the Beatles.

  • @petetentacles Yes!!!! George is my favorite too!!!!

  • I always thought if there ever would've been a reunion that they would do it outdoors and open up with this song...and as loud and clear as they could,

  • We are dead?......

  • where did u get this version?

  • one of my faveorite beatles songs

  • no dislikes :D

  • @leorrixx Still no dislikes :-D

  • @leorrixx someone's dislikes make no difference to me!

  • @leorrixx nooooo, they made 2 dislikes! but of course they were blue meanies. :)

  • The Fab Four meet the San Francisco sound....an existential hallucinogenic-inspired work of musical genius here. We still miss you George and John--and this f----d up world of ours needs you more than ever.

  • If there are any Fab Faux fans here, have you ever seen them do this song live?

  • Acid drenched sound

  • Paul had Helter Skelter, john had I want you, George has this

  • how could I download this music version?

  • @StudioCzarnobyl2 It's now on I-Tunes.

  • nobody likes the beatles at my school.

  • @pizzawars119 I feel for ya dude, my friends only like or have only heard 1 or 2 Beatles songs. I'm happy my girlfriend likes them, at least more than most of my friends.

  • @pizzawars119 bullshit how many people are there?

  • @pizzawars119

I know what you mean. I had the same problem in Germany.

Even my father was laughing at me (He listened to Iron Maiden, Slayer, ...)

    He said I'm fuc.ed up.

  • i swear this song sounds modern

  • @pizzawars119 you are right

  • This song was recorded in the 1st half of '67, when they were creating Sgt. Pepper's, as well as the Strawberry Fields/Penny Lane and All You Need is Love/Baby You're a Rich Man singles. Amongst all that, it was deemed to be not up to par and so was shelved. When the people making Yellow Submarine needed extra songs, it was dusted off & put in the movie.

In any other band, this would be their break-out hit. For the Beatles, not so much. However, it's aged incredibly well & still sounds fresh.

  • @DonGenarosDog like the comment my friend.! very true....

  • The Fabs had 3 song-smiths not 2.

  • @kcirdrab They had 4, you CAN'T forget Ringo, even though he didn't write much, people deserve credit where credit is due.

  • @ZMan1209 - Starkey was an important part of the Fabs, but my 1st post concerned its tune smiths, which - with even the best will in the world - he wasn`t 1 of.

  • Mine too Khultan =)

  • Long live George Harrison and The Beatles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • didn't know this long version... I love George, and specially this song...

  • George Harrison will never be appreciated as much as he deserves...

  • @athrough0 I was a kid when the Beatles took over the music charts and All of the Beatles had their share of fans. No one was left out. It was worldwide and crossed generations.

  • @athrough0 I was a kid when the Beatles took over the music charts and All of the Beatles had their share of fans. No one was left out. It was worldwide and crossed generations. But I know what you mean. He was a gem.

  • This is such an under appreciated masterpiece basically because it was only on the "Yellow Submarine" album .... I remember my buddy Jimmy buying the YS album and hearing this for the first time ..... Mind blowing ....

  • @jaddison1112 ? The guitarist for the greatest band ever. Can't get better than that!

  • I want to go to that place Beatle music takes me, it must be really beautiful.

  • one of my favorite Harrison/ Beatles songs!

  • hanx george!

  • beyond words!

  • The song is nothing to do with drugs. It's about transcendence- the journey inside which just gets deeper and more profound the further you let it go. Drugs may open the door but the block the way after that.

  • the heaviest beatles song after helter skelter!

  • @k0stil Revolution might be a close 2nd.

  • Beautiful, CHAOTIC, Pure hippie amazing production. The first 1:05 of this song is probably the most incredible intros in all of rock. The feedback, organ, followed by Ringos off beat drumroll buildup is inspiring! Thanks for posting! J'ai Guru George.

  • George crashed.....this was beyond him !!!!! come on Linda ......he would be ashamed !!!!

  • Too bad it was never mixed in stereo

  • I would be hard pressed to acknowledge any Bowie influence on the Beatles. Get a clue. I love Bowie, but much was already done before he even started recording.

  • This song is amazing!!!

    One of my Harrison's favorites

Harrison deserves more !!! people should know more about him. The beatles is not only John and McCartney

  • awesome!

  • I've said it before, but I'll say it again here - after 1966 my favourite Beatles songwriter is George Harrison... Taxman, Something, While My Guitar... this song. Timeless classics. Much missed. Love, light and peace.

  • @petetentacles Blue Jay Way....

  • This is this Bowie influenced song

  • @OuryLN

This song was recorded in May 1967, Bowie had only released a couple independent label singles at that point that sounded nothing like this - more like Velvet Underground.

  • @OuryLN Bowie didn't really start to have an influence until '69/'70. This song was recorded in early '67 but wasn't released until '69

  • @lgsm64 1968!

  • Best song ever!

    Long life The Beatles!

  • THE MOST EPIC THING EVER!

Hendrix-like feedback with George's skill. The absolute best song ever. Too bad there's only one tab of it, and it's not very detailed.

  • @BeatleMathYT Just wanted to point out that if you check the background on this song you will find out that it was recorded before Hendrix did his first album

  • @lgsm64 Hendrix loved the Beatles... The Beatles did a lot of things, and Hendrix inspired on it made a lot of beautiful things... you know, from "I Feel Fine"'s feedback to Jimi Hendrix's "Voodoo Child", the same with backwards solo in "Tomorrow Never Knows" and then "Are You Experienced?"

  • @BeatleMathYT buy The Beatles - Complete Scores, is not perfect, but is the best you can't find if you don't have good ear

  • woah! when 4:15 hit, i was like 'its jesus!'

  • @CloneCommanderEnki haha.. you'r right it does look like him

  • "Show me that I'm everywhere,

And get me home for tea."

The cousin of "Itchykoo Park"'s ~"It's All Too Beautiful".

  • try also to watch our mtv "Tamse Remastered"

  • this is the first time I've heard this song but for some reason i get a strange feeling of familiarity.

  • Probably the Prince of Denmark part is why

  • My drug: the beatles

  • @Khultan Awesome!!!!

    you are awesome.

    JBirdy

  • @Khultan mine too i hope i don't od.lol

  • too much is never enough

  • One of my favourites by George Harrison even though its about drugs!!!

  • Drugs?! Its about chi, life force...energy.
