@PowerbookMedic is the only way to upgrade the graphics in a mac book to replace the logic board with a better graphics card built on to it? From what I have been understanding from forums is that the graphics card is built onto the logic board. Id appreciate it if you would reply, thank you.
I have the newest (2011) unibody 15' macbook pro. it dropped form a small distance, everything works fine but there's a dent in the keyboard cover. is there anything i can do or do i need to buy a new cover?
thanks for the video. i have a 17" early 2008 macbook pro and it looks like i need to replace my logic board. so long as its built for a 17", i should have no problem replacing it with a newer or older version right?
Thanks again, your videos and comments are very helpful.
@brmorrison61 - You're usually limited to the same family revision for logic board replacements, and can only upgrade if your family had a faster unit when you purchased the laptop.
I have a Pre-2009 Unibody MacBook Pro 2.53 15" Intel Core 2 Duo which has recently failed due to faulty Logic Board. I sent it off to a Registered Apple Repairer which thought it may have been a faulty HD Cable and or HD itself.
I've noticed Repair Logic Boards on Ebay...by following your video, is it pretty straight forward to replace the logic board myself? I did not want to pay the $1800 the Apple Store was going to charge me to replace it. I can pick up a repair one for about $400.
@Hiwaz - It is pretty straightforward. We sell the part and also perform the repair at our facility. You can call us for more info at 1-866-726-3342, option 2.
Having problems (2006 early MB pro).. why is there so many different types of philips screws in there?
Just bought a T6 and thought I'd get away with some micro philips screwdrivers.. seems fair, but no, none out of the 15 I have release the dvd drive from the case
Is there just ONE philips screwdriver that does ALL the philips screws? - case screws, keyboard screws and all these other little screws, like the hard drive and super drive caddy..
I have a Febr-March 2008 macbook pro which is dead. When pressing the power button there's the short startup spinning sound and de led goes on for one sec but then it goes dead again. I brought my macbook pro to a repair shop and they tell me the cpu is broken + cooling system. Repairing it would cost 1044 euros which i don't wanna pay.
@laurens02 I have the same exact issue, same month of purchase, late february with the new trackpad and arrived early march. This is terrible. I've always treated it exceptionally and wasn't expecting to replace it for at least another year. This adds up to my discontent with apple. By the way, forums are plagued with this same occurence.
@supaknerka Hey, unfortunately I had to buy a new mbp.. it was not the logic board itself but rather the cpu and its cooling. However, the cpu is embedded in the logic board so i would have to replace the logic board entirely which was not worth it... Maybe you should go to a repair shop and let make an analysis, then you can decide if you want to repair it or not.
Thanks for vid! My 15" has black screen although keyboard is lit. I zapped the pram and i get apple w loading bar and circular time. Computer whirrs but doesnt load up. Seems like logic board is glitz. Is there anything else i should look into replacing?
If you are having display problems with your MacBook Pro's, take them into Apple and have them run a test on the GPU. If your GPU is dead, they will replace your logic board for free.
My MBP is Completely black screen (no graphics visible, so don't think it's just a backlight thing), no backlight on keyboard, no response from keyboard, capslock LED doesn't light, no light on power button. Front LED constant dim when laptop lid open, constant bright when closed. No power on USBs, no external display output. The hard drive spins up, but no chime, and the DVD drive accepted a DVD which span up and down but is now stuck inside!
cont* Thats only assuming that the heatsink is attatched to the board directly and if it isn't I'd have to say that is mega fail... in my opinion by Apple. Either way I don't have enough time to view every screw you removed, so please let me know PowerbookMedic XD
Correct me if I am wrong as I have never had to remove a logic board yet. But wouldn't you be able to keep the heatsink attached to the logic board and still be able to remove both the heatsink and the logicboard together? I ask this question because of thermal paste, please let me know :3
How long does it take to take out the logic board? and replace? I have a 4yr old Mac Pro and i have glitches that appear here and there. I took it to the apple store, they did a full test and it passed, so they re installed snow leopard but now its even worse. The computer freezes and I have to shut it down by holding the power button, they said its the Logic Board they want to run more tests on it, what do u suggest?
@rolo17 - Taking out the board should take a tech around 30 minutes to an hour depending on skill level. We offer a logic board repair service for $399 which is much more cost effective than a replacement board. If we can't repair the board, there is no cost, so you may want to try that route first.
My Temperature sensor is "not working" due the "Fan controlling" apps. Basically it just goes with one and the same fan speed (for example 2000rpm) and if the CPU gets more hot (even if it's 100*C), the fan speed remains the same.
HOW CAN I RESET THIS HORRIBLE THING ???!!?!?!?
Can i reset or auto-set the thermal sensor or something?

@syrianization - The only way to upgrade your graphics card is to buy a newer laptop. The chip is soldered onto the logic board.
PowerbookMedic 1 month ago
@PowerbookMedic Could I replace the logic board all together, with an upgraded one?
syrianization 4 weeks ago
@syrianization - No. You have to replace it with your same model type as there are variations in different revision boards.

I'm looking at replacing the magsafe board. Is this a straighforward process or is it under the logic board? Anything in the way? Thanks.

@vc187 - There are several components you have to remove to access the magsafe board.

As the keyboard seems completely dead, I 'm thinking the keyboard presses I've tried to reset PRAM, SMU etc aren't working anyway.
what do you think the problem is?
thanks

My video card / logic board died. I took it to the Apple store and they replaced it for free.
That was nice. Not sure but seems like enough of them failed that they just offered free replacements.

You can get the logic boards from our website. We also have a logic board repair service that is usually much cheaper than a replacement board.
