  • simply outclassed commo and falcon these turbo terrors!!! im a holden man and i love watching that GTR

  • shame R32 GTR did not win this race e30 m3 4 cylinder n/a won go longhurst

    watch part 2

  • Don't you dare speak that way about the GT-R! its not Nissan's fault they made a car that was to good for our crappy cars!

But it is dissapointing that its only Ford Holden now.

  • @FennShysaTobiDalla Yep Nissan read the rules and came up with the R32 GTR which was built for 1 thing go fast on the track and take on the Sierras. Ironcaly the GTR was suppose to have a RB24DET and 10 inch rims and AWD, but they though the RB26DETT with 11 inch rims and AWD would be better

  • Now that is just brillinat racing! It would have been good to watch more of Jim Richards charge, but there was too much going on up ahead to show it, haha. Just fantastic.

  • My point is that it was unfair to run a 4WD car against RWD/FWD road-going sedans. Why CAMS even let the turbo cars run wild with boost is beyond me, especially their decision to allow the 4WD Skyline to race. If the R31 couldn't do the job (win Bathurst) as a two wheel drive car, Nissan shouldve developed it further as a 2 wheel drive, or pissed of back home to Japan & race in its own series, which the GTR ended up doing anyway. Now thanks to GTR & Seirra we're stuck with 2-make V8SC series.

  • @thehsvman u saying nissan should have developed a faster rwd car basically speaking. y could'nt everyone else come with a 4wd car? y didnt ford develop 4wd sierra saphire cosworth, or even the escort cosworth rs, for track racing? things would have got really interesting for sure. but i feel the ban would still come anyhow, those v8 guys would have felt shame knowing a lil 4cyl or 6cyl turbo make mincemeat of them at every race...

  • @sunnywrc Why build 4WD limited edition/production cars which there was no demand for? Group A racing was meant for cars already in production but then Ford and Nissan made it about who could produce the best car to win races. Honestly when I think about how Nissan came out with the 4WD GTR , I just laugh coz they needed 4wd and not one but two turbo chargers to beat RWD Commodores and M3's.

  • @sunnywrc What an embarrassment - that kinda car should've been racing against exotic supercars like Ferraris and Porsches coz thats what the GTR was, an exotic supercar!

  • @thehsvman Every racing class has rules to go by so you buy the best car that fit the rules dont ya. So why not buy a GTR and make things a little bit easier to win. If ya have an unlimited budget why not

  • @thehsvman alot of people forget that the GTRs were wopped with a 100kg weight penalty in every race to keep things even (and they still won)....the GTRs were specifically manufactured and introduced to tackle group A racing....who cares if they were too fast, too superior.... the GTR was way before its time and thats whats so cool about it!!......buy a 1989 GTR, spend some small change on it and it will still outclass modern day cars..

  • Also Sierra only dominated from late 1987 to 1989. Also why didn't the GTR compte overseas in Europe? You think the Europeans wouldve even given the GTR a chance to race against production roading going cars modified to race? Not likely, so drop this Aussie bogans hate foreign stuff coz it was the Aussies who helped pioneer and develop the GTR in the first place.

  • And youre mistaken if you think the GTR didnt compete in Europe. Tried researching? Nissan not only dominated Japan/Asia, it did compete against euros, and in US, and won a few things at it, such as the 1990 Macau GP, 1992 Spainish TCC, pikes peak 1993, and best of all, won the 1991 Spa 24 hr: qualified pole, won Group A, and 1-2 Group N, crossing the line in a glorious 1-2-3 finish. Yes aussies did help pioneer/develop it, but most aussie race fans embrace that bogan-foreign-hating attitude.

  • Noone said the Sierra was accepted, those Pom-mobiles were only quick due to bolt-on turbo which gave the car real bad turbo lag. It was also RWD, meaning it destroyed its rear tyres quick & would usually falter when pushed hard. The Sierra was the first of few cars to take advantage of turbo power, the GTR

on the otherhand never existed til Nissan realised its RWD HR31 could not match the others & so adopted 4WD to create the GTR.

  • In the end it was the only 4wd and twin turbo car to compte in Grp A. So by spending millions to build a "super car" with the same technology as a jet fighter plane to take on RWD and mainly N/A cars in "sedan-based" touring cars racing, basically what Nissan did was kill the spirit & pairty of the class which led to its demise. It basically told the others that they too had to invest millions to produce "race rockets" as opposed to "road racers" which was not cost sustainable over long term.

  • What Nissan did was spend a decade racing and developing their cars to the point of winning races. They may have ended up with an average V8 Supercar team budget back then, but there were touring car teams in the world that spent 4 or 5 times Nissans budget. Alfa Romeo come to mind, with a OTT 6 mil pound budget. Gibson may have got big money from ciggy companies, but lets not forgot there were other teams with comparable budgets e.g. B&H bimmers, Peter Jackson Sierras etc.

  • Nissan spent years developing the R31 to its full potential and in 1990 it did match them, JR won the ATCC. The GTR stepped it up. It set the precedent of technology that is fully utilised today, such as telemetry, first used by the Nissan team. It wasnt some freakish mid-engined V12 Ferrari that its made out to be. It was a front engined coupe (like the BMW & Sierras!), just with a bit more power and better handling. Though this extra grip self-imposed a 150kg weight handicap due to the 4wd...

  • ty for vid great stuff

  • Yep, pity Nissan with the GTR had to ruin it with the "win at all costs" strategy. Ah well, thats the price of greed I suppose.

  • and the previous 3 years of Sierra domination was what? ....silly comment about Nissan mate! Why would you develop a car not to win?

  • @thehsvman Jetwreck is exactly right. ironic how the sierras totally dominated from 86 - 89 but then everyone cried foul when nissan beat all the holdens, bmw's, & what was thought to be the 'unbeatable' sierras. as much as the aussies hated turbos they only tolerated the sierra domination because it had a blue oval on the front. end of the day, aussies couldnt stand anything foreign winning, even though the sierra was the most foreign car in it!! it wasnt even friggin sold in aussie. Go figure.

  • Some great racing!
