Brad Dourif is an amazing actor. Just look at this stunning performance. He should get big roles thrown at him. But the freaking brain dead movie bussiness give big roles to un-talented morons who is just called "actors" because they "look good". It really is a shame. Back in the day you got famous for being talented ( like the awesome Brad Dourif) not because of you'r good looks.
I heard that HBO was thinking of making a sin off about doc cochrin during the civil war. If they can't make season four of deadwood why not the doc cochrin show?
This is heart-wrenching. For context, he's questioning God about the suffering of a minister. He's also seen the civil war first-hand- the bloodiest war the country has ever seen.
Jesus this scene made me cry, and I don't cry at movies. Brad Dourif is the finest performer in the series. Amazing. I hope he was recognized for his woork.
This is, hands down, one of the greatest performance I have seen in my life. I dont agree with those who see hate in this scene. I think its more about disbelief and humility in front of a very cruel reality. Dourif managed to give us a true sight of pure and honest humanity and deserves recognition for this scene!
@illini50 im pretty sure everyone who is familiar with his work has commented on how incredible he is...he is very well respected, just not very well known
@OneEyedJack1970 Brad Dourif gives an AMAZING performance on the X Files - Season One, the episode called BEYOND THE SEA. Unbelievable performance! I love this man.
I would have loved to hear him bust out with some "it is by will alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the juico of sapho that the thoughts acquire speed, the lips acquire stains, the stains become a warning, it is by will alone I set my mind in motion."
I looked specifically for this scene and was surprised to find it. I remember it as very emotional as my Dad died of a brain tumour around the same time. I couldn't watch this scene again until now. Thank you for sharing, a very powerful scene and full credit to the actor and writer.
I also felt that the show with the minister did a good job fairly potraying a man who was trying to be a good Christian, which is courageos in these anti-Christian times
there are men of immense faith that I have watched pray like that, when they think they are alone. Its heartwrenching to hear them, this actor must have seen someone pray like that too.
This scene alone sums up why Deadwood is simply the greatest television show in human history and why HBO executives should be flogged for letting it go. How they could cancel this and Rome and allow smut like Sopranos to go on simply offends me and boggles the mind. Between Ian McShane and Brad Dourif how did they not win Emmys every season????????
they didnt cancell it, the creator got bored and killed it because he wanted to do a supernatural surfing show that flopped. HBO now wants nothing to do with hum because of what he did
Well then HBO should have hired a new showrunner and fought to keep Deadwood alive. John From Cincinatti sucked what the hell was Milch thinking? How do you give up a show like Deadwood for shit like that? IS NOTHING SACRED ANY LONGER?????????
yes, I didn't mean to say only men wounded in combat think of their mothers, but in essence, any man does, when they are stripped down to their primal consciousness. The first thing we see in life is our mother, and it is fittingly the first thing our brains think about when they are in chaos. Which is why you will hear a lot of men say, when they are in a life-threatening situation that they "thought of their mother". It's a comfort mechanism that the brain falls back on to counter shock.
If Brad Dourif were at least 36 years younger, he would of been the most amazing Joker ever!
He has the psycho-genius quality that would surpass Heath Ledger.
