@amomschoice Whoa--I clicked on the wrong icon there. Sorry about that. You could turn under the edges and stitch them under if you wanted a finished look or just leave them raw and sew them firmly so they won't ravel.
I don't normally comment on videos, but I wanted to thank you for posting this! I have been scared to even try sewing by machine or hand, but you explain it very clearly. I'm going to try this on some handmade stockings! Thank you for your instructions!
oh gosh you are a good teacher!!! and what a wonderful cat!! at 44 I had given up ever learning to sew but find myself borderline obssessed now, it is relaxing...

I <3 ur video ... I am in the middle of giving up stitching my skirt and I was going to just crazy glue it instead :D but now I'm going to try stitching it one more time ....
Great video! There's nothing like sitting down and creating something with the use of your hands. It's calming, therapeutic, and creative! Great video!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I love this video! I'm a total beginner and I've found this very helpful! Thanks for your light delivery! Totally takes the stress away from this newbie! Keep the videos coming!!
thanks, sweetie! stitching is sooo much easier than most people believe--and once you get hooked, then you can try some fancy stuff--even it isn't that difficult. have fun!
Oh my god. thank you so much! ahaha im new at sewing and the only stitch i knew was the running stitch. :) now i know two new ones. thank you thank you thank you. i was struggleing to make a little 'dot' thing like with the french knot, when i was sewing a ipod case for my friend as a gift. now i know the RIGHT way to do it. :)
you know. i'm only 14. and the first stitch i learned was the french knot. then the running stitch. then the split stitch. i never thought the french knot was hard. lol
glad to help. of course, moms need to feel useful sometimes (i'm not one, but i used to call mine from time to time, just to ask about something i knew she knew the answer to). have fun with the stitching!
Thanks a lot! Thanks to youtube and people that want to share their knowledge,i dont need to call my mom to ask her these kind of stuff anymore...I did it bymyself,ahahaha!26 year old guy talking here,LOL!
As a quilter, I'm an old hand at the running stitch (it's hard to think of a simpler stitch!), but my French knots used to work only about half the time. Now I understand why! Thanks and thanks to Mo.
You are FANTASTIC!I didn't know what a French knot was before this video. Quick (and stupid) question though-when hand stitching, if you don't want to double up your embroidery thread so that you can keep the look of a single strand, i.e. you don't tie the two loose ends together-how do you go about sewing that way? Is it possible? I tried tying a knot at one end, then sewing with a loose end pulled thru the eye of the needle a few inches, but worried it would slip out in the middle of a stitch.
thanks! you'll need more thread--a longer piece, so it won't pull out of the needle as easily. i'm using that here--the thread is not doubled--just knotted on one end. good luck!
Oh, lovely! Thank you so much for the quick reply. I wasn't sure you'd ever catch the comment, but I hoped and hoped all night, as I giggled along to your videos, and teared up once I made it over to your latest blog post.
Fabulous! Is the split stitch kinda like sewing on the machine with the two threads?
Squshie00 3 months ago
@Squshie00 No, the machine can't split the stitch. It does a whole nother thang with the bobbin thread.

how do you sew a sleeve on just by using a hand stitch
diseaster09 11 months ago
@diseaster09 Yikes! I wouldn't even attempt it~~

How do you finish raw edges when hand sewing? Great colors and creations.

sewing / stitching is an essential surviving skill. Get out and learn it. Learning is impossible without doing it. So get on and do it
