Quaint! Stiff lipped, formal and full of delightful live blunders. Today's outtakes programmes would have had a field day here. Sandie was great though. Very unassuming personality and a great voice. Hey, has anyone seen her recently? She hardly looks any different!
Sandie thought Puppet on a String was a silly little song and she didn't want to sing it. She was right but her powerful voice and personality carried it through. Sounds like a German Umpha song
Gracious! They were so grave and formal and dramatic in the judging back in the day. You'd think it was the UN Security Council or the Olympics or the Nobel Committee or something important...
Sorry azulezos, this is going realy below my level.
You are forgetting that it is a eurovision SONG contest and not a who looks better than... contest......
I tink the song is cure, but .and I repeat- even the writers of this song thought that the song "l'amour est bleu" was better. That was said in an interview in the 90's!!!!
I met Vicky as well.... several times..... so becarefull with what you are saying ;)
The UK had just been deeply humiliated in Europe as it had had to devalue the £ (pound) and impose price controls to protect against their stronger currencies. Then Sandie Shaw in her BARE FEET stuck it to the Europeans in far away Vienna that Saturday night and we could briefly look the Europeans in the eye again!
She was the talk of the school playground that morning!
As I said before, it is a funny and happy song, just not the best.
In a television-interview even the writers of "Puppet on a string" confessed that they thought "l'Amour est Bleu" would be the winning song. And they wished they had written that song!
In the last decade Eurovision winners were all chosen by the (tele)votes of the audience: None of them managed to score a hit with their song and none of those artists were ever heard of ever again.
Sorry, It was a funny song, but certainly not the best.... "l'Amour est bleu" of this contest by Vicky was much better.... Even the writers of "Puppet on a string" thought Vicky would win.
Anyway, Vicky's song was a huge hit in Japan, Canada and -later on- covered by hundreds of artists.... "l'Amour est bleu" (Love is blue) is the best sold Eurovision song ever!
Look!! There will always be the minority like you who that don't agree. But thank heaven for the majority who clearly have the ability to recognize talent when they see it!!!!!
In the last decade Eurovision winners were all chosen by the (tele)votes of the audience: None of them managed to score a hit with their song and none of those artists were ever heard of ever again.
She is so godd buy i've never heard of her and i'm 40 years old. It was only by accident i found her when i was searching for "those were the days" and i liked her version as much as the original. She also sings in foreign languages and here she is clearly singing without lip sinking. It's too bad that class is not a prerequisite in today's age. white women today are skanks.
Yes, this contest has changed so much and you could have the best song in the world and it wouldnt win coz now its all politics, Greece give Cyprus their 12 points and vice-versa, the Scandinavian Countries all give each other points, its turned into a comedy as you can predict who will give who their 12 points!!!
Wasn't the audience posh, with their suits and dickie bows, nobody waving a flag here. Isn't it sad that the land of Pop music (Britain) can't find a decent song to enter, this year's winner is a George Michael look alike.
Boy, the voting process took forever (It's probably instantaneous electronics now) and the song is chi-z, but yep, she sure sports a great voice here. And you can tell she's not just lip-synching, but having the time of her life.
Although the scoring system has changed many times since then, and there have been some winning songs with enormous margins as winners, I think I'm correct in saying that this remains the largest ever winning margin in the contest's history, in real terms, with more than double the runner up's points, and nearly 4 times more points than the song that came third, and then all the rest..
What a wonderful clip! This was the night I became obsessed with Eurovision and now, one week short of 40 years on I still am, but it's great to see from all the wonderful Eurovision footage that's on YouTube that I'm not the only one!
Well, there've been some great and some awful songs that've won the Eurovision, but this was one of the really big winners.
It sounds like an earler song made by Sonny and Cher, called, Little man. So it's surprising it won the contest.
