  • Love this. Nice job training!

  • I LOVE the fact that you loved your cow enough to give this a try. so many people think of them as only some big dumb animal to be raised for meat. (I'm all for raising them for meat just saying that shouldnt be there entire lot in life.) we pay attention and give love to our horses and let them experiance adventure. why not cows:)!

  • Wow thats amazing!

  • At least I know now I'm not the ONLY one that does this! I canter and jump my Heifer... :)

  • if i don't get a horse i'm getting a cow besides they are my second fav animal sorta i guess..........my sis is lucky she has a cow!!!!

  • im amazed..ive never seen this before..i mean i ride steers and bulls that buck..but not like a real thing like a horse....thats so cool

  • Look at that, there's three people who dislike this. Who could dislike this? He's darling!

  • Can he canter?!

  • That;s amazing!

This is a wonderfully trained cow.

  • I want to get a steer to train to jump and stuff and take it to dressage and showjumping just to pee everyone off xD

  • was it hard to train cow xd?

  • THAT IS AWESOME.

Jackson is really beautiful, what kind of cow is he? How long did it take to train him?

  • hmmm must feel like ur gonna tip off the front because cows carry their heads low and have no withers....thatg is so cool!!!!! uhhhh ur amazing cowestrian haha

  • you can use a treeless natural horsemanship saddle as well (not a bareback pad, you could but they are different),

  • I'd love to see that in a dressage show!

  • HOLY COW LOL u can ride horses , cows whats next zebras !! wow thats awesome i want a cow now lol xx

  • @cupcakelass123 yeah you can ride zebra's too :) look it up on youtube ;D

  • @mawazhere13 i soo wish i was u !! :D your my horse riding idol !! :D xx

  • @cupcakelass123 aw thanks :D

  • im starting to teach me calves, i have them trick trained, but any ideas how to breack them and ride, please help!!!

  • how did you train him ?? I am getting a long horn steer and i want him to be a riding steer he is halter broke and has had a blanket on his back with no problems he is like a dog but i have no idea how to start him under saddle and tips would be great!! PS: Love jackson he is so cute!!

  • So sollte man es machen, einfach toll

  • I've been wanting a riding steer for some time now... I definitely do not want a horse! Either mule or cow is the way to go!

  • can u canter on him?? looks so fun!!

  • That is sooo cool!!!! We are goin to get a holstein calf to raise and I want to train it to ride!! We have been looking for a heifer but can't find one and im scared if I get a bull it will be bad tempered even if we get it castrated. How is Jackson's temperament? Is training a cow similar to training a horse?

  • Does a cow have a toothless area in the mouth comparable to a horse's bars? Looks like you're using a snaffle bit?

  • god if only people could see what wonderful and intelligent animals cows are, and not just something between two burger buns.

  • I really want to see a video of someone riding a cow over jumps. Can you please upload a jumping video. it would make me so happy.

  • more videos like troting and cantering please!

  • So cute! Looks a little bumpy up there though. xD

  • Congrats!

He seems amazing! have you jumped or cantered!?

he is gorgeous also.. i wonder if they will ever make a cow saddle! :D

    or a cow, ridden show!?

  • u should try cantering

  • @Eventing2000

we have! need to get some videos up soon.. :)

  • cow riding?

    haha.

  • just only cantering and jumping :D this is awsome XD

  • @redriverrosie

we have done some of both, need to get some videos though. :) Thanks.

  • i have never seen a cow do any thing besides walking, pooping and eating

  • @Starscreamsfan4ever

Well now you have! :D .. how cool are they? :P

  • That's really cool, I would ride a cow before I'd jump on a horse, but that's just me! I hear that you start training them for riding in much the same way a young colt would... no idea how valid this is, though. Cattle are amazing animals.

  • @FlowingDepths

I personally find you train cattle alot differently to horses, because they react differently.. for example a horses natural response is to run, while a cow will stand up to its fears? ... which makes it impossible to lunge a cow.. but i agree theyre definitly amazing animals! :) Thanks for the comment. I hope you do get to ride a cow one day!

  • can it canter! If u can post a vid of it soon!

  • @HorsieRider125

He can! I will see what I can do. :)

  • that's what I'm talkin bout!!! I've been wanting to get a steer or cow to train! I was thinking cow because it might hold a saddle better but your steer holds one pretty good! You're cool in my book for doing this!

  • @Cowboymonte

    Haha, thanks!! :)

I find a steer is best, as they dont have any hormonal interpherence.. and can actually maintain their weight better then a cow who will get all hippy on you etc. Although, if your after the multipurpose a cow can give you calves and milk, where as a steer is only good for one thing?

Up to you! I hope you do get one! :D

  • lol cool!

  • xD!

  • Thats awesome, seriously! Can he canter??? :) In the future, you should try like poles or something xD

  • @FreaWishart

haha thanks! .. and he can canter! Need to get some videos, we have done trotting poles and jumped some small jumps as well! ... just been struggling to find someone holding the camera and the time these days!

  • @queenielauren1helga put videos of you jumping! i want to see :) you have convinced me! my new goal in life is- training a cow to jump and entering him in a jumping competition!!!

  • is that a horse or a cow lol?

  • Hi, do you use the same saddle as for horse? Does it fit? And does steer like it :P?

  • @muciek92

I use a horse saddle.. the one i have on him there is an Austrralian Stock Saddle... It fits ok, but i find the hide is slippery, I need to get a crupper to stop it slipping over his neck!

As for does he like it? He doesnt mind, he enjoys the attention, and adventure, but at the same time, he'd quite happily sit around eating all day too. :)

  • @queenielauren1helga your gonna need a rreeeaalllyyy long crupper lol

  • we're coming to free you little sister.

meuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh agent cow working as a mole for the secret services.

  • that is amazing! See most people who are against horse slaughter say its because horses are useful and beautiful, and we can ride them, Well Jackson looks all of those to me! Great job with him! Just out of curiosity, can he canter? I am seriously thinking about gettting a cow to train (I have a shetland pony and a TB also on my farm.....)

  • they can canter XD my cousin owns a cow farm

  • @sammyrox8

I agree with you completely! :D Thats exactly why I started out with him too.. to prove that point. :) Thanks. :)

He can canter, but i am still trying to get some videos! I think you should definitly get one! Theyre different to horses, but very similar too! Let me know how you go!

  • @sammyrox8 Are you picking a fight with people who hate horse slaughter? (me) If you wanna fight you got it! I HATE all Slaughters! and Don't even reply if it's going to get me VERY pissed! there are prices to pay!

  • @sammyrox8 but we dont use cows for sport and i dont find cows all the .. nice.. like they r pretty ugly in a way but horses r 10000x better in every way.. sry but this is my own opinion!

  • AMAZING!!! ive nvr seen anybody make their cow move like a pleasure horse! and he listens too! plus he looks like he is okay with you riding him :DD

  • @HEYZWHATSZUPZ21 LOL thanks!! =) Yeah, he really doesnt mind it at all.

  • O M G

normally you ride horses, but, like you've shown, you can also ride a cow or steer

    lol

does'nt he thew you of at the beginning?

  • @Lille54321 hey, lol thanks for the comment, he has never thrown me.. their temperament and stff is quite diferent from that of a horse, much easier to break! =)

plus i raised him from 2 weeks old, so he was uber quiet.

  • I once tried to ride my cows Clover and Splash. Like you I hand raised them when they were little babies (they're now 3 years old with their own calves). They're so calm and friendly, I thought, why not?

I was told numerous times I was putting my life at risk, so I stuck with horses, though now I doubt cattle are any more dangerous, perhaps even less so?

Anyhow, my attempts were never as succesful as yours with Jackson. Looks like heaps of fun :D

  • @SpaceCowgirlReturns Haha that is soooo cool. You should try and train their calves!! I think it helps training them young, and keeping up their training, you would be able to do it just as well.

As for the danger concept, i wold say its definitlky safer to ride cattle? Jackson has never done a thing to me, and theyre temperament is sooooo different to horses, they dont react the same way to situations.

You ahould definitly get back on the cow! =)

  • O_______________O?

That's really strange to something like this, instead of normally riding a horse..

  • @GoatBlaat Yeah, its not the norm, but i mean, why not? Its fun, different and cattle are incredible animals to work with.

  • @queenielauren1helga

Hm, ok.. If I ever get the chance to ride a cow or steer or any other cattle, I'll do it xD

  • MORE VIDS PLEEEASE :D

  • I have an idea. GROW up. I am not abusing this animal in any way, how about you just go back to abusing rodeos which actually harm the animals. And mind your own business. Jackson is absolutely fine with carrying me, have you not seen the bullocks pull thousands of kilos. My guess would be that you dont have a clue about the capablilities of cattle, and that you just have nothing better to do with your life. As far as im concerned, you can go and stick it.

  • you train him to canter!!

  • when did u start to train him?? train him like a horse? and did u ever have to train him out of bucking with u or the saddle on him??? i need to know cuz i wanna train my steer Topaz!

    thx!

  • Hi, Thats awesome you want to train your steer!! ... how old is he? what have oyu done with him so far? ...

Well I raised Jackson from 2weeks old, and have been doing a little bit here and a little bit there his whole life. but i plan on training an older steer soon. Also, i trained him some ways like a horse, and some ways completely different. They do not think the same as a horse and so dont lunge and stuff. But yeah, message me if you need any help, and good luck!

  • give us more jackson videos pLEEZ!

  • wow he rides so well!! I want to train my steer Pitambar! so sweet :-) Jackson looks like such a well behaved boy.

  • Wow.....I used to fantasize about training a steer to showjump XD just ask my friends, they thought I was nuts lol! This is THE coolest vid Ive seen in a long time. You should jump him!! and film it!!!

My 17.2hh TB gelding was rejected by the mares at his old grazing so he used to go and socialize with the cows. They were his good mates lol XD

  • thats so cool! do they like make special saddles for steers?

  • we have looked into making some that are better suited to them, because their hide slips and they dont exactly have withers!!! ...

but im just using an Australian Stock saddle, there...

  • Very nice! Are you going 2 show him or something? That would be very cool if they actually had steer showing lol. But keep up the good work!

  • they do have steer showings lol but not for riding for actual showing parading its fun lool

  • Oh thtz still coolz lol

  • Yeah, i wanted to show him once, but they told me i need to pay all these insane amounts of insurance, so it will have to wait for later.

Plus, im confident that most of the horses would lose their riders at the sight of us!! ... the first time our stables saw him they went nuts! I put a horse over a fence actually, and they've been jumping him since then. turns out he is pretty good. haha

  • This is pure win. XD

  • Well, I'd have to say this is the oddest video I've ever seen.. It's out there all right! I think you've gotta alot of tallent in training a steer. And you've got a great seat too!! haha..

  • Haha Thank you. =] ... his gaits are surprisingly nice.

  • Huh! I didn't know you could ride cows...

  • i ride horses as well but jackson can do just about everything they can, just not always as fast, or as well.

someone asked if i was going to jump in.. i have led and ran him over jumps but i havent ridden him over jumps yet. I should give that a go!

hope that answered some questions! :) always open for more!

  • i think you could do it with most cattle if they have the right training. Sure some cant be suitable, but that is the same with some horses.

Like bluemoon says they are very multipurpose... though how you could eat such a long term friend i dont know.. plus meat that age would not be good eating quality but i grant that should you stuff up your yearling steer thats not so much waste as ruining a horse ( though i do not eat any beef myself).

  • :) thanks for all your comments...

yes, he can do pretty much anything a horse can do.

I got him becuase i love cattle, theyre amazing animals, and thought well i think theyre good for something other then slaughter.. im not giving up til i can prove it.... and it was ALOT easier then i ever hoped.

  • AHAHA! thts soo cool!!

  • Think it takes a cetain cow and a patient person to achieve tthis. Very cool thing to see. Special guy he is

  • NaoKatmi, do you always judge, and when you say I mean not to sound rude, bull*** you mean to sound rude. Jackson is cool.

  • I have to ask.. is there a reason why you are riding a steer? i mean not to sound rude, but is it the novelty? where i live we can have 2 large animals on our 10 acres... we chose horses.. i can't imagine going... hmmm, wait, it think i'll get a cow! Can you load him in a trailer and take him on trail rides? can he do everything a horse can do, or do you have horses too? Nice markings btw.

  • no offence there but i would pick a steer over a horse anytime, because i think horses are just too unpredictable when spooked. cattle are less likely to spook and run away, they usually hold their ground rather than run. a single steer is strong enough to pull a cart or plow a garden. they are cheaper to buy, feed and vet costs are a half of horse's, cattle are more rugged than horses. and they are better to eat when they get old. and you can load them to trailor and trail ride.

  • LMAO, I'm sorry, it's terrible, but "they are better to eat when they get old," cracks me up. Ride 'em, use them to plow your garden and when they get old fire up the BBQ!

  • sorry, i didn't mean to offend! i said there is a possibility of slaughter. i first wouldn't know weather i would be able to do it to my ox, but consuming an old ox seems more probable than consuming an old horse. wether someone wants to do it or not, is up to him/her.

  • No offensive taken, and I totally hear what you are saying. It makes sense, it just doesn't sound very nice if you know what I mean, haha.

  • hahahahahaha!!!! i wnna try that 2 lol

  • ahahahahah(:

  • HAHAAH!!

omg i wanna try that!!! XD

  • HAHHA

  • So cute ... so lazy ... got to get him to canter!

  • Haha he's a pretty nice mover!!

  • Wow, wouldn't it be neat if you could ride him to the store instead of a car....boy it would sure save gas. (not grass jk) How inspiring!

  • Awesome video, he has got some animation! Love it!!

  • are u gonna try jumping him lol

  • Wow he moves so fast and nicley!! that is amazing! Keep it up :D Shelley
