@be6sti Handling is not that much different from stock, the LS is aluminum and only weighs a little more than the porsche motor. If you get the time check out 944online, or renegadehybrids. The first site deals with mostly oem replacement parts and some used stuff, but they have a great forum. The second site sells the conversion kit for the LS1 swap.
the 300z won because a stock 944 only has somthing around 163 hp to 230 hp stock. an the z has 300 stock. the 944 would pown the 300z in the corners tho.it has a 55-50 weight balance:)

A regular 944 Turbo is just as fast as a regular Z anyway. Look at the 0-60 stats... in fact I believe the 951 beats the Z in the 1/4 mile [stock -v- stock].

This is when they were spinning up to 10,100 RPMs. Of course, out of a 2005 ford motor going in are 1983 944 Porsche. Jap cars are great. But most 300s and 240s from that era are dead or dying. I like 300's. But 944's are better, sexier and more interesting. They will also out handle a 300 any day. Also a 944 turbo is a 4 cyl with significantly less horsepower...

There only two others that I know about within almost 4 counties.With all the imports (civics, wrx sti, and eclipses) out there, my car probably turns more heads because alot of people don't know what it is. Most people mistake it for an early RX-7 even though up close they look nothing alike.I wouldn't trade my 944 for a brand new 911.No offense to any of the cars listed.
@187megalomaniac About the "turning heads" effect, it simply depends on where you live and what cars are around. With all my respect, there are at least two 944 like yours in my town. At the same time I drive a '90 Honda Prelude which I bought for 1000EUR for a daily car and in the region of EU where I drive it, it turns more heads than Audi R8 or TT, Mercedes S coupe, Porsche Panamera etc super(expensive) cars which are no rarities here. Just because it's a VERY rare car here. I like 944 btw :)

I like all the cars that I listed, but I've only seen a few 944s ,and mine is one of them. I completely agree with you, "It depends on where you live". The Z does not have huge turbo's either. It has ported stock turbo's ($1100 for both), side mounts, 740cc injectors, 2.5 inch Borla exhaust and a ASH round about tune.
Z's with the same mod list are producing just over 600hp. but mine was not dyno tuned. When I put the engine back in.. it will be and me and the porsche will rematch!

i luv the 944s you can buy them cheap, and ur starting with a car that has near perfect 50-50 weight dist., 4 wheel independent susp. 4 wheel discs, leather interior, and very light, my ls twin turbo conversion has about 20,000 in it and ive never been beat buy any supercar, trans. r easy to switch out, i have 3 different trans. set ups 1/8 mile, quarter mile , and mile, spect. 4 power band maximization, had to add a lil weight to the lil storage spots behind wheel wells, 4 better grab!

Hey Man, before you start listing specs at least do your homework. A 944s NA may make 160 but the 1986 944 Turbo made 250 HP in stock form. And they NEVER made a 944 TURBO with an automatic trans axle, only in the NA world and those are rare. A 84 944 NA is a completely different car than a 86 944 Turbo.
Sorry I rounded up by 3 HP. But 247 is a long way from 163 HP. And the 944 NA cars are pieces of shit, especially the automatic ones, that's why they made so few of those. And a 944 turbo will destroy Porsche Boxters, Porsche 914's. My Porsche 944(the one in the video) will destroy the latest and greatest stock twin turbo 911 out there at 520 HP and 540 ft/lbs of torque at the wheels.
Hi dear friend you're not honest with 944s . I have the 944S (16V) 190CV. Of course it doesn't compare to the Turbo versions , but at higher speeds the difference isn't so important. I can overtake 200km/h (124 miles per hour) so easily. Anyway my 0-60 is 7,3 secs not bad for a non turbo 22 years old.
Sure, top speed on a stock 1986 944 N/A may be about 140mph but it takes you months to get there. I have owned about 12 of these cars. I am not ragging on them. They are sweet cars but they are NOT FAST!!!!...... Unless they have a LS1 or a big Turbo.....
944s own in corners, period. But yeah, N/A's aren't real fast in a straight line, but my 1989 2.7litre N/A is fast enough to be fun. If you want a 944 that's fast in a straight line, get a Turbo S.

@snupcho Incorrect. I have an 84' 944 and I love it! Build quality is nice, it's very comfortable, and not everyone has one. There only two others that I know about within almost 4 counties.With all the imports (civics, wrx sti, and eclipses) out there, my car probably turns more heads because alot of people don't know what it is. Most people mistake it for an early RX-7 even though up close they look nothing alike.I wouldn't trade my 944 for a brand new 911.No offense to any of the cars listed.

@187megalomaniac About the "turning heads" effect, it simply depends on where you live and what cars are around. With all my respect, there are at least two 944 like yours in my town. At the same time I drive a '90 Honda Prelude which I bought for 1000EUR for a daily car and in the region of EU where I drive it, it turns more heads than Audi R8 or TT, Mercedes S coupe, Porsche Panamera etc super(expensive) cars which are no rarities here. Just because it's a VERY rare car here. I like 944 btw :)

@snupcho I live near Saint Louis Missouri, and here in the U.S. preludes, civics, integras and eclipses are everywhere, and mustangs are even worse. I like all the cars that I listed, but I've only seen a few 944s ,and mine is one of them. I completely agree with you, "It depends on where you live". In the U.S. "tuners" are more common than "exotics", or "supercars"....In all honesty, I would move to Europe for the cars alone. I'm a bit of a Top Gear addict, LONG LIVE Jeremy Clarkson!

HEY!! That is my Z!!! I was reading some of the posts and you guys are retarded. Who gives a shit about crap ass N/A 944's? Honestly?
The Z does not have huge turbo's either. It has ported stock turbo's ($1100 for both), side mounts, 740cc injectors, 2.5 inch Borla exhaust and a ASH round about tune.
Z's with the same mod list are producing just over 600hp. but mine was not dyno tuned. When I put the engine back in.. it will be and me and the porsche will rematch!

Well... it is a good thing that you cant read. I am pretty sure that it has a built Chevy V8 on Nitrous. So... it has a Porsche Chasis and drivetrain. And the drivetrain cannot hold the power of 600hp. In which a lot of Z's have known to push in the 800's on the stock transmission. You should just shut up now... LOL

Man, I have rode in duramax's with over 900ftlbs of tq, and it's preety fucking amazing! However, a properly tuned 300zx twin turbo will blow the doors off of any duramax! They run down merci's gt2's vette's, even bikes all the time! Not much can fuck with em'.

300zx are bricks and are an absolute pain to work on. Looks like the Porsche/LS1 got the 300zx pretty good goes to show how light those LS1s and love spray. What did the camera car (srt4) have done to it? sounded like a 50trim.

Dude, most of Volvos have 5cylinders. And Volvo haves a great engine. And I have Saab turbo too. It's a 88'. It can't win a 300zx. I agree that 300zx is heavy, but what about Skyline? It weights 1510kg, if I remember right, but 1500kilograms and something. And by the way why won't you change the engine of a 300zx to the engine of Corvette c5, or Infiniti G35 or 350z.... ? Speed isn't everything. Of course I want to win, but rather I drive a car with great driving than a car that goes fast.

Funny how ppl is always hating... The Porsche 944 is a REALY good car ! Its like a GoCart on the road, and u can do alot to get more power whit it. The 944 @ is time was not a Supercar it was more like a Sportscar... And they can be realy fast !
But remember the 944 is not a drag car. Try getting away from it in turns :P

i luv the 944s you can buy them cheap, and ur starting with a car that has near perfect 50-50 weight dist., 4 wheel independent susp. 4 wheel discs, leather interior, and very light, my ls twin turbo conversion has about 20,000 in it and ive never been beat buy any supercar, trans. r easy to switch out, i have 3 different trans. set ups 1/8 mile, quarter mile , and mile, spect. 4 power band maximization, had to add a lil weight to the lil storage spots behind wheel wells, 4 better grab!

It is the Nissan with the turbo. It would be impossible to hear the wine of the 944 as it is on the far side of the Nissan, especially with all 3 cars revving up.

The 944 has either a 2.5 or 2.7 liter turbo while the 300zx has a 3.0 liter Tubo'd engine
Porsche makes 163 HP Stock
300ZX Makes (VG30det)200-(VG30DETT)300 hp according to nissan which is a "white Lie"
With very few mods a 300zx is capable of soo much more than a 944, short of doing an LS1 Swap.
My pops has a 1984 944 (NA) and i smoke um in my 89 Z24 (porsche is an auto, Z24 is a 5spd 3.4liter Turbo)

Hey Man, before you start listing specs at least do your homework. A 944s NA may make 160 but the 1986 944 Turbo made 250 HP in stock form. And they NEVER made a 944 TURBO with an automatic trans axle, only in the NA world and those are rare. A 84 944 NA is a completely different car than a 86 944 Turbo.

1. PORSCHE rates the 1986 944 at 217hp (single turbo) the 944 didn't come close to 250hp until 1988 and it still fell short at 247hp

Sorry I rounded up by 3 HP. But 247 is a long way from 163 HP. And the 944 NA cars are pieces of shit, especially the automatic ones, that's why they made so few of those. And a 944 turbo will destroy Porsche Boxters, Porsche 914's. My Porsche 944(the one in the video) will destroy the latest and greatest stock twin turbo 911 out there at 520 HP and 540 ft/lbs of torque at the wheels.

Hi dear friend you're not honest with 944s . I have the 944S (16V) 190CV. Of course it doesn't compare to the Turbo versions , but at higher speeds the difference isn't so important. I can overtake 200km/h (124 miles per hour) so easily. Anyway my 0-60 is 7,3 secs not bad for a non turbo 22 years old.

Sure, top speed on a stock 1986 944 N/A may be about 140mph but it takes you months to get there. I have owned about 12 of these cars. I am not ragging on them. They are sweet cars but they are NOT FAST!!!!...... Unless they have a LS1 or a big Turbo.....

944s own in corners, period. But yeah, N/A's aren't real fast in a straight line, but my 1989 2.7litre N/A is fast enough to be fun. If you want a 944 that's fast in a straight line, get a Turbo S.

Porsche is not meant to go in a straight line. Put enough money into anything and you can get it to go fast down the straight, whoopty fuckin doo. On a track with turns and where you have to bake ... is where an evenly modified Porsche will walk all over most cars because they were built for the track by design.

Sure the 944 NA is a bit slugish and It would eat a cav alive, but a 944 turbo with only 217HP could spank most sports cars to this day. My lil sisters moded X19 can keep up with the 944, doesnt win. Porsche's are Supercars, the 944 is a fancy Econo Box, at best! and the gas mileage (on an auto anyway) isn't all that great @ 28 mpg hwy.

In Top Gear, the 300ZX is proven to be the fastest Z. But it is heavier than the 944, and the 944 turbo's engine is some of the most potent I4 engines ever made, and it can be tuned to over 450 hp. A weight of >2600lbs and an hp of more than 450 means FAST. Oh wait, an LS1 engine and NOS? That's FASTER!!
