  • Guys do you have to step in towrds your opponent when you execute the split?

  • @suicyde240

    Yeah ofcourse

  • Thank you guys for making such awesome, comprehensive videos! I've learnt so much!

  • @suicyde240 Thank you very much. Help us keep the project going. Pick up one of our Damage Control TShirts or even better, a membership from our offical vlog.

  • Your Jabs counters are good, but the split counter would work well for boxing but in MMA the stepping off would open you up for a spinning back kick. What say you?

  • @superfoot53 Every technique has a counter. Even the ones here you didn't mention. You show me a technique that is impossible to counter and that's the only technique I'll ever use. Why waste my time with the ones that might get me busted. In addition, the spinning back kick is a relatively difficult technique to use well. And when you consistenly use a variety of jab counters, it's difficult for your opponent to figure out when you're going to step off for the split.

  • @TakingItToTheMMAT Throw the spinning back kick when your opponent slides left instead of steps off to his right and your spinning back kick can get countered with an elbow to the back of your dome. Everything has a counter. :)

  • I tend to wait too much for people in sparring as well. Especially if kicks are involved, because I wait for them to make a move so I can angle a kick and punish them. I'm definitely gonna have this in the back of my mind at all times.

  • Really great advice at the end. I realized I do the same thing in sparring all the time. I wanna try a new counter so I sit and wait for the opening, leaving myself vulnerable. I distract myself by thinking about one move I wanna try and miss other opportunities because of it. It's a really great insight that seems obvious, but I make that mistake all the time. Just react to what your opponent gives you.

  • hit em

  • 1:45 MILF ALARM!

  • @20juli2008 MILF is always on the prowl

  • Really like the advice at the end. Thanks!

  • HAHAHA awesome video but i actually crackedup really hard when he said "if he stands there and winks at me" HAHAHAAHHS omgawd funny shit sorry but useful tips, thank you =]

  • 1:44 background ;)

  • a good boxer will knock you out with his right.

  • thats WIng Tzun :O

  • I'm a traditional wing chun practitioner for the past 7 years and i have to say all the stuff i've seen from u guys is the same conceptually. Goes to show that martial arts is really 1 style. Excellent stuff

  • great techniques i really admire the way you teach

  • Great techniques. Great lesson at the end too

  • great jad counter duuude

  • nice vid man thanks

  • the greatness of the true right cross at 3:25 caused a punching bag to jingle...

  • Is that hot chick in the back a distraction technique like "the woman in the red dress" in the movie The Matrix? Im dead. lol

  • You guys are awesome. Thanks for the videos :D

  • but if he feints the left jab, he can give you a hook with the same left arm, right?

  • @greenwolfeye3 yep. Thats why you cant telegraph anything. Thousands of hours of sparrring will train your brain to recognize movements

  • Brandon and Brian another great video. You guys will be the Paulson's, Bernales, Bayless and Sauer's etc...in your generation. I have trained at Pedro Sauer's gym and the Walt Bayless' gym under Griff and Ben. I know those camps don't coalesce very well in SLC, but I made it work. You guys have great techniques, and I hope to train with you soon because I live in SLC. See you soon-great work guys!

  • awesome video

  • love that piece of advice at the end

  • You guys are amazing! I live in winnemucca, Nevada and we don't have a gym here and I have been watching your vids and training the moves and really trying to learn Muay Thai. I recently had knee surgery on both of my knees because of shallow femurs and I have been using your vids to exercise and strengthen my knees. Wish I could train with you guys! These Tips and all your Vids are amazing thank you! I really like the "Hit Him Back" technical.

  • You guys have great videos. I have been training Thai in new jersey for some time and have really been searching for new theories and perspectives on habits and drills and I found your videos. Wish I was in Salt Lake to train with you guys. These tips and especially the "hit him back" philosophy are really great, THANKS!

  • @bozomcbozo Thank you for the support. You don't need to be in Salt Lake. There are a number of most excellent instructors in your neck of the woods. I have travelled to study under the Thai Boxing Association Instructors located in your area. Khuen Khru Jeff Jones, Khuen Khru Rick Tucci and Mike Lee, Khuen Khru Joe Cargado are but a few. I learn from these wonderful instructors on a regular basis. Best of luck sir /\

  • Lol, 2:58. He was like "aww shiet"

  • concerning the technique spoken at the beginning, what happens if ur opponent throws a right hook or a uppercut while u r walking to the side?

  • one of the most easy and well spoken lessons on self defence and fighting.

    Great concepts,Great thoughts....well spoken

  • AWESOME VIDEOOO ! I NEED MOOREEE

first time a video in youtube could show me something new n nice about fighting

    thxxxxx

  • thanks , but i kept seeing that girl in the back, i was disconcentraded by her lol

  • Great advices! Thank you guys!

  • best advice ever: he hits you, you hit him back. He doesn't hit you, you hit him back. awesome.

  • awesom!

  • can you do this cross if the guy is protecting his chin with his shoulder?

  • Checking jabs is pretty similar, dont let them get there distance while interupting there rhythm. works pretty good.

  • Sometimes I step back from the jab, and throw a left hook. How's that?

  • @BrannonMcConkey Probably more useful in a real fight. Trying to a catch a jab may not work for all skill levels. I like your thinking.

  • @superheaton Thanks. Just trying to figure stuff out. I also use the same hook with a lefty - so instead of changing my stance, we end up fist to fist; he jabs, i step back and loop around with the hook. Great videos, learning alot.

  • One thing i don't get: your techs are obviously very good, as are the way you sexplain and show them except the position of you fist, it always looks like you have your wrist bent a bit backwards like when riding a bike. Does this have a purpouse or is it just like that when you work light- or no-contact?

    regards

  • Great teaching as always!

  • I'm an amateur at this and at the end of every session in classI have to get in a boxing fight versus another fellow fighter. I went online and found this video, our instructor still haven't taught us this technique. You have no idea how many people's jabs I managed to counter. Thanks a bunch.

  • 7 people got split jabbed

  • You're an excellent instructor.

  • Great stuff. I've always used that right cross, that's pretty basic, but I've been on the receiving end of that 'splitting the jab' in a fight (boxing) & it totally disrupted EVERYTHING I wanted to do. That's not an experience you forget quickly. I had to dump the left jab entirely & pretty much went into rope-a-dope to buy enough time to figure the guy out. If he was better conditioned.. yikes

From personal bad experience, I can tell you that technique is top-shelf. Great info!

  • Is she single?

  • I like the women in the dress.

  • the split seems a bit dangerous, if u don't dodge properly there's nothing to stop the jab from hitting ur head? just asking

  • Loved that foot work for the first jab counter. Off the line.....Gonna use that slick counter. That true cross is the sickest. No one should get caught from a right straight or cross period, alas even a jab is not safe with that counter.

  • Loved that foot work for the first jab counter. Off the line.....Gonna use that slick counter.

  • Hehe. had the same problem waiting for the jab. and it never comes.

  • Excellent jab counter, im going to add this to my arsenal.

    Thanks from England.

  • i think that counter jab with knee is almost imposible cause jab is really fast , very fast.

  • excellent lesson.Thanks

  • hey i'm learning alot thanks

  • to counter muay thai kick .. how to do it it..cosit so fast n really hurt hah

  • This is good but would only work against slow opponents with bad technique!

  • amazing! gonna try these out! thanks.

  • Nice stuff; I love guard splits!

Do you have an FMA/Silat background? I've seen these techniques there as well.

Thanks for the videos, really good stuff.

  • r these punching techniques from boxing or was it developed specifically in mma

  • This made me want to get into MMA again. I love the counter moves.

  • what? what u said sorry i was too busy lookin at the girl in the back!!!

by the way crazy videos i like the way ya explain the techniques ya use and show multiple way to use it!

  • no offence to your advices but some of them do not look that effective....for example it would be easier to defend a left jab with your right hand and then hit back with left jab and right low kick for example....the stepping on the side looks cool but during the fight you need loads of experience to do something like that

  • at 4:22 u r so opened for a right hand...

  • Great stuff! Thank you!

  • EXCELLENT video, great instruction. Keep it up!

  • lol that blonde guy doesn't like hitting properly at brian and it well p*sses brian off

  • thank you man, you are very informational and precise.

  • I like the two beats one better. switch and knee.

  • Nice video and great instructions. Keep it up.

  • i missed everything he said once that chick walked in

  • I reallly like this guy's techniques...as far as punching techniques, this is the best I've seen so far on youtube...On a side note, he said straight right, it's technically called a right straight...

  • Very good! Your strait right counter (true right cross) is great!! True martial skill technique. Occupy the space and taking the center! excellent!

  • Damn that guy in the white shirt has some lighting fast strikes..

  • that is one sexy gym

  • hey did you see that woman in the short skirt the back..she was hot... why do women like that come to they gym...makes yr dick hard

  • @MrMrinsomniac i kno thats why u only pay attention to ur partner. last thing you want is a boner when fighting lolol

  • i love his sounds effects "WOOP! PANG!"

  • Love tht counter to the jab with the knee ! awesome ..thts good advice! =] u hit me ima hit u back u dont him me ima hit u back ! awesome good stuff helps a lot!! =]

  • 1:50. wheres the tits? this vid would be up in the millions if she stripped.

  • good stuff!

  • Thanks for the video. I was looking for boxing counters, came across this - although I don't think I'll try my luck at kneeing somebody in a boxing match, I thought the rest of it really useful. I'm a bit worried about some of them since I only saw the footwork for one technique (my bad, I'm obsessive about these things - need to see every movement over and over). The counters look a bit tricky, but I can do things like catching the jab and countering with my own, so hopefully I'll grow. Thanks!

  • Wicked play by play man....well articulated! I'm a school teacher and a martial artist, and your instruction is sick dude! Thanks for sharing.

  • I love the right cross counter, cant wait to spar tmrw and practice it

  • Very good instructor; articulate and thorough; obviously knows the Game. yes, hot babes are a distraction..but that's OK...

  • Can't concentrate in dis gym, hot gals in the background !!!

  • Thanks for uploading this video guys, very usefull advice, especialy at the end. i keep finding myself waiting for the opertunity to counter and end up getting hit, so will give your ideas a try next time i train :-) thanks again

  • Your videos are awesome Thanks you all.

  • always parry jabs with the hand thats on the same side.

  • these videos are amazing.

    excellent video.

but im really worried about the footwork during all of this.

you guys should try and capture the entire body.

    great job guys

  • I like 2:54 we use that in Wing Chun. The info at the end was great. That was something new to me I haven't seen anywhere else.

  • thank you guys for these videos i'm teaching box, cacc, thaibox, kickbox, eskrima. and when i feel i little tired not knowing what to teach i look for you and i get to refresh my ideas! you're a great help, greeting s from mexico

  • Absolutely awesome instruction, thanks for posting.

  • haha i trained wit these guys at csw at the camp 2010

  • Fantastic.

  • awesome advice at the end

  • thank you for this, helped alot.. 5 stars

  • people forget that these moves mean nothing if your reflexes aren't fast i was sparring with a guy today he to quick i couldn't counter any thing he was that quick with his hands, im just sayn practice on your reflexes more then techniques because all these techniques are basically the basics with a little twist to them

  • Great instruction. One of the best I've seen on Youtube.

  • THATZ THE SHIT HELL YEAHHHHHHHH

  • i like the end advice even the greatest boxer in the world is still only a human

  • Great video man, i had never seen any of your videos until now but definitely going to be supporting them, The video itself was very detailed and helpful, thanks again.

  • guys,, this technique really works..I always try it when I spar with my friends...

  • if he throws jab ,right uppercut you are going right into int.stop teaching .ask a boxing trainer first i.you are rally idiot .u cant counter the jab the way you talk.

  • Very good video ! Shows a lot of efficient punch counters. Thank you very much !

  • that was real good! thanx

  • my muay thai instructor showed me this, it works beautifully,

  • thanks i really need this!

  • im training my head .its very useful

  • these seem right but if you get it wrong. arent u just gonna eat a straight while purposefully moving towards it?

  • I took the first counter in the video and worked it in training, and it works brilliantly! Thanks for the vid, i love it! Now i'm going to work the rest... can't wait!

  • Awesome guys

  • cool video thx

  • Yo, nice lesson Brian! You're official!!! peace from Cali!!!

  • Good stuff!

  • thanks, a video worth watching

  • Really good instructions.

  • oouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

  • who is that fine lady at 1:55 dammmmmmnnnnnnnn!!! :)

  • Excellent!

  • This is pure Muay Thai technique and it works!! This guy is remarkably good technician, and technique = speed = power!! Just watch and learn!!!

  • yeah like a boxer is going to be that fucking slow. Boxers have the fastest hands.

  • this guy is an excellent instructor, does he have any dvd's out.

  • Thanks buddy! No, we don't have DVD out but we will be launching a membership area where we take you from the basics up though bleeding edge techniques and tactics for MMA, Striking, Clinching, Takedowns, Submissions and Ground and Pound. Check it out at: DamageControlMMA,com

  • Lol the white guy keeps takin punches to the chin..... Looks like a great gym

  • watched the first 50 seconds but the advice was too bad to continue. You counter the jab and the step across into his power are and range of his right cross? WTF!

    Terrible technique!

  • If you did the technique right you are moving your head off center to your left and offline of your oppenents right hand. If his opponent throws the right it should miss and go right over right shoulder. If you get hit. You left your head in the middle.

  • previous comment was a response to the guy that said the first technique was terrible. If you were listening you'd have noticed he mentions the danger of moving to your left to counter, and how to deal with it.

  • or if you kept doing the same counter and the other fighter timed you for the right hand. that is why it is so good to have multiple counters so that you dont become predictable. most ppl either split jab or body jab as a easy jab counter but these other ones give you depth...if you dont understand this then you havent been in the ring with a talented opponent. totally agree with you sprpoolboy.

  • haahah i DEFINITELY agree from personal experience of using this technique against a 15 year experienced boxer. i would counter a jab by stepping to the side of his POWER hand got hit so many times from his HOOK not cross...

  • I'm short, and a lot of times reach is a huge issue, so I jab counter a lot to get inside. I really like to slip to the inside and throw an over hand right with my head off center to the left. But definately have to keep the left hand up to catch that hook. Also be throwing don't one hit counter. Slip inside throw the over hand and immediately throw a left hand, and then make a corner. If you get off center and inside throw a few punches and slide to make the angle. Its all about the angles.

  • Cool video. Techniques seem influenced by wing chun strategy like simultaneous attack and defense. Thanks for sharing.

  • must need a bloody fast reaction

  • on the true strait right cross, are you still completely rotating the wrist so that the thumb is angled toward the ground?

  • I notice that when fighters get good enough and have a certain level of experience they start to ignore small things like "tucking behind the shoulder" on a jab. It don't make sense, but that's why they do it. Sort of like how people drive cars. After a while they stop holding the wheel with two hands, stopping before a sidewalk, checking the mirrors.... you get what I'm saying.

  • Cool video, but why is he jabbing without tucking behind his shoulder? Even I know thats a no no!

  • 1:56 is the gem in this video. after splittin the right hand follow is so fluid and natural. very impressive.

  • lol this guys name is difficult but he is clearly a great teacher. and just for the record, it is good to train going to the left and right slippin, cuz sooner or later u will run across a damn south paw and ugh

  • nice

  • seems like a great gym with a good team of coaches

  • dont listen to him lol

  • why does he keep crossing the opponnents center line? You should always move to the side of the jab not into the direction of his power hand

  • Yeh thats what I was taught, and if your going to "hold it back with your hand". Also tucking the chin while jabbing helps.

  • useful stuff to work on. thanks guys.

  • " im just gonna go "

t/y very much for this informative helpful video

  • I saw one of your videos yesterday and I immediately subscribed. There is so much fluff on youtube,; I am glad I found some serious substance.

    Thanks

  • he sounds kinda of like Kermit the frog :D

  • that guy looks awesome

  • dude i thought these guys were some fags dat sucked but they actually know whats going on.

  • i love these guys

  • haha i went to practice last night thinking i was gona whop my partner with these then i started sparing and i forgot everything haha

  • LOL Thats what happens to everyone including me

  • same story....got ass beat

  • ya the other day my instructor sed for me to sparr with our newest member, a 40 year old amatuer boxer! i got my head punched in but he didnt know anything about kicks so i threw liek 100 leg kicks and he cudnt walk lolz and im only 15

  • haha i've been there man. Drill first. Spar later.

  • you gotta practice it first

  • @alion06 hahahah yea. i hate when that happens. lol

  • @alion06 Yup, it happens. Repetition Repetition Repetition. Drill it into your mind and body.

We don't rise to the level of our expectations – we fall to the level of our training.

  • I saw a lot of videos of you explaining and i really must say you do it just perfect and you can learn much of it!!!!!

    THANK YOU!!!!!

  • very good...

  • That was a truly great video. Respect!

  • I liked this video a lot, it seems very useful.

    Thanx

  • Great vidoes, Thanks !!

  • Thanks, I like this a lot.

  • HAHAHA

"IF HE STANDS THERE AND WINKS AT ME I HIT HIM BACK.."

HAHAHAHAHAHAAH , Hilarious but is a good quote

  • good speaker

  • i love the way you guys incorporate that 45 degree angle step into the striking. I mean so many times i got hit while slipping punches without proper footwork. Now i use that step every training and it WORKS WONDERFUL!. Almost no risky head movement required. Simple step not only creates so many oportunities to punch your opponent but it also gets you out of the line of fire. The true cross is also a clever idea. Great vids thanks!

  • my favorite is parrying and jabbing back

  • I LOVE ALL THESE VIDEOS!!!!!!

  • You guys ROCK!!! Great coaching!!! If I lived up near SLC I'd stop by in a heart beat.... Keep up the great videos!!!

  • wow this guy is awesome.
