I was getting this terrible headache which got progressively worse. Lying down wasnt helping so I came to my comp and youtubed Zakir's tabla videos ... this was the second piece I watched and by the end of it my headache has actually disappeared! What peace what bliss! Zakir you are God!
..that tabla speaks to my heart and consciousness with every stroke.....thank you for posting such a masterful performance. Ustad Zakir Hussain is a true MASTER..
The youtube url grabber just came out with additional new features! You can now play your favorite video on the page itself, and if you like to check out other videos, that wont be a problem, for the preceding video will automatically stop playing without dawdling its buffer time! Also, you can now download mp4 format for your mobile phone!
To ,GabriKnight, This concert is called Concert for Peace its on cd,it was at the Royal Albert Hall in 1995, hope this helps, it was realeased by Moment Records, Zakir Hussain record label, hope this helps/
Oh this is GLORIOUS! Such articulation! And the older gentlemen, Ravi Shankar?, he just seems so proud as he looks on. Did Mr. Shankar train him? For it almost seemed like a master watching his aprentice come into his own. Very entertaining. I wonder if I could see a performance live? Does anyone know? Could you tell me please?!
how can u even compare the two? rimpa shiv is absolutely no where near knowledge of rhythm, and musicality that zakir hussain. Zakir hussain is on a totally different level than rimpa shiv.
thnx my friend i got the ticket,i will be there on 19th cant wait for that day. a dream will come true.hope to see u there.thanks again my dear.i appreciate ur help.
This is by far my favourite ever recording by any artist.
It sounds modern - like an intelligent drum & bass track played by hand than a classical performance.
The backing seems western & reminds of a grandfather clock, counting down four quick seconds at a time. The tabla accentuates, with a discernable undulation even at the fastest speeds that emphasises each pendulum swing!
Lol at 5:45 when he casually chalks his hand in a fraction of a second in the midst of drumming chaos ; )
Amazing sound. Does anyone know what a phyta thekha is? I'm not sure that's how you spell it. Amazing performance. He has such a light and beautiful style of playing.

These titles are named after a person has spent almost his entire life practicing, learning and performing - however it is the experience which is important. These are not official names, but names which spread around.

It is Ravi Shankar. I've got a Ravi album with this track on it. So awesome that they could collaborate. Wonderful isn't it!
BCguitarist666 2 years ago
No...Pandit Ji did not train him. But, Pandit Ravi Ji, did see Zakir blossom into Ustad Zakir Hussain.

u r right. so entertaining. ravi played with his father and now with his son. but still a bond of passions. :)

139th time of listening to this clip - that's >16 hours of bliss!
How was the concert? Would have loved to be there but now live the opposite side of country. Saw Shankar perform at the Barbican 5 years or so ago.
Still wish I knew where this recording was made and how to get hold of the whole concert.
Peace and love.
