The old games had something: They'd make you figure out everything without any clues and take you to the point just before death with a boss and then something come in and save you. That's missing from a lot of games today.
@mrsupercarrotman The Prime series are canon, but it doesn't really have anything to do with what's going on in Other M. That's the reason why they left it out.
To me, the entire game felt like a "breaking point." It's not like I am picking out one vulnerable moment and having a problem with it. It's the fact that the entire game felt like a long vulnerable moment, or series of vulnerable moments. The game didn't mesh well to me. I've explained my problems with the character development, I thought the play control was poorly implemented, and there were other problems for me too. But if you thought it was great, more power to you. I wish I felt the same!
i hate how the nintendo dudes in japan almost completely disregard the prime trilogy. retro did so much for metroid and they ignore it just because it's not in 2-fucking-D. in my eyes the prime trilogy(or at least prime 1) will be more metroid than other m.
@ephellCL I throught the Prime trilogy was very well done, and nicely fleshed out with underlying story if the player bothered to scan the data logs throughout the game. I think its a great disservice to the developers to disregard the Prime trilogy just because its deviated from the established play style of the preceding games. They experimented with the first person aspect, and I think they pulled it off beautifully from the start. And I am saying this as a tremendous fan of Super Metroid.
@GaMEChld@GaMEChld Metroid Prime is among the best games ever made. And this is coming from a Metroid fan too. Prime was beautiful and captured the feeling of Metroid perfectly
@ImTheSpanish ..no. it's the first and only location-relevant sequel to metroid. it also came out 15 years ago. and..you didnt know it wasnt a sequel. that disappoints me
@cledet1219 I didn't explain me well. When I said metroid I meant Zero Mission. I saw that you have to fight mother brain in both games, so I wanted to know if Zero mission is a remake of metroid or super metroid.
@awsomeyoshi2 Fusion does happen after this but Fusion is the last game in the series chronologically. The order from 1st to last is Metroid (Zero Mission) Metroid Prime Hunters Echoes Corruption Return of Samus Super Metroid Other M Fusion
@XXjustsometardXX Metroid Prime was made by Retro Studios with the approval of Nintendo. The Prime series was more based off Phazon, which was never mentioned in the original series. Even though there were Metroids in the Prime series. Plus, Metroid Prime is another main idea of Metroid Prime even though it seems like it was only in one game, in the end it absorbed not only Samus' Phazon suit but some of her DNA which turned it into Dark Samus for the rest of the Trilogy.
@TheMostBleedingHeart The fact she delivers her voice acting as if she's applying for the role of a robot, I mean sure I'm positive the gasps and squeals are intended to make her slightly more human, but that woman delivers dialogue like a voice synthesiser, just my opinion
@TheMostBleedingHeart Perhaps, but I do agree, maybe Martin just wasn't the type for dub work. Personally I think they should have just Jen Taylor, I mean she did all the grunts in Metroid Prime for Samus but she's a veteran voice actor, should have just got her in
Yo did anyone download this in ntsc format and have tried running it on cios20b system menu 4.2u, with a base ios38 on neogamma rev9 beta 44, when i try it goes past the strap remote to hand screen then to a black one where it says "disc could not be read"
Own this game. Played this game - wanted to put my fist through the TV at times (which NO other Metroid game has made me want to do) hated how the story was going, hated the aiming etc... Now after completing the game the controls are fine 90% of the time, the cut scenes and story are completely accepted by me despite hating the fact Samus talks at the start of the game and if the gameplay is tweaked a bit I would be happy if all future Metroid games are like this.
You're pretty much spot on but I found the gameplay fun enough to give the game an 8 or 8.5. I like it a lot to but I think next time around they need to open it up more from the beginning. Allow for sequence breaking and that kind of stuff that made Metroid, Metroid. The story was real good in the second half and I thought giving Samus a voice was fine but next time around I think I'd like them to cut the amount of cutscenes in half. Sometimes less is more.
@NYYanks2003040506 I was fine with the cut scenes (add skip if not there) and everything but yeah, at the start it feels kind of lacking. I fully complete the game today (not 100% to get hard mode yet - that's later in the week for me) and it was a nice game to fill in the gap between Super Metroid and Fusion. I don't get why it's getting horrid reviews from people like G4 etc, really doesn't deserve it. It tries to make Metroid more suitable to today's gamers without changing much and it does.
I think this game will end up like Majora's Mask. A little under appreciated in its time but 5, 10 years from now, maybe even sooner, people will look back and appreciate it for what it is. A flawed but good game.
The ground work is there for something great and I hope this exact same development team gets a shot to make a Metroid Fusion sequel in the same vein as this just with some of the changes I mentioned in my earlier comment.
@kraus199 I really did not like the play control for the most part. I didnt really see a reason they went with the sideways controller style instead of just using the joystick. That way, your wiimote is already pointed at the screen for the situations you use the first person aspect, instead of having to keep swiveling the controller from sideways to pointing. It seemed very shoddy to me. As for the story, I thought it was decent, but Samus came across a bit too needy; instead of badass warrior.
God forbid having your parents killed by Space Pirates, a Metroid baby sacrificing it's life for you, and undergoing numerous trials makes you weak on occasion.
God forbid having your parents killed by Space Pirates, a Metroid baby sacrificing it's life for you, and undergoing numerous trials makes you weak on occasion.
@DarthCadeous501 I don't mind weak on occasion, especially in light of all of that, but she seemed weak throughout the game. Here it seemed like she needed a lot of hand holding and taking care of, as opposed to being a rock that puts everyone to shame with superior skill, superior cunning and unwavering bravery, which is how I always had interpreted Samus to be. If your contention is that that Samus showed remarkable strength in this game except for a couple of moments, then I have to disagree.
@DarthCadeous501 In no other game did they make this much of an effort to develop her personality and backstory as this game, so that's a moot point. However, if you are indeed trying to use all the other games as a validation for this case, that doesn't make much sense either, because it just makes her weakness to be all that more out of character and inconsistent. IMHO, her emotional state in this game would have been more fitting in a prequel, before she has been hardened by experience.
Experience doesn't make you invulnerable to emotion. In the first Rambo movie, Rambo breaks down in tears. Now I'm sure everyone will tell how manly and tough Rambo is, but everybody hasa breaking point. Why Samus Aran has to be an exception is beyond me.
Not a bad voice for samus, a bit soft, but hey, it works, somehow. I have this constant paronoia that even though the game will dive a little deeper into samus' personality, what we will all see is some whiny, emo brat. For you who have played the game, please tell me my fears are unfounded
"Oh yeah, and there was all this stuff I did with a deadly substance called Phazon, a mutated Metroid, a Dark version of me, and a corruption that made me kill a bunch of my friends. Whatevs, that's not important."
@132music They happen in this order: Metroid/Zero Mission (NES/GBA) Metroid Prime (GC) Metroid Prime Hunters (DS) Metroid Prime 2 Echoes (GC) Metroid Prime 3 Corruption (Wii) Metroid II Return of Samus (GB) Super Metroid (SNES) Metroid Other M (Wii) Metroid Fusion (GBA) As far as what happens in each, I suggest visiting "wikitroid" for that, I don't quite have enough space for it all here.
@kraus199 Wait so whats up with sylux and at the end of prime 3 what about when phazze exploded and phazon destroyed all the corrupted biengs like metroids and space prirates.
@uncle102 Pay attention to the games. At the end of Prime 3 ALL Phazon in the universe disappears after planet Phaazes (spelling?) destruction to remove phazon from the plot completely. And there is no confirmation that it was Sylux's ship...
Who cares anyway - it's not like Prime games actually mean anything to the main story. In fact if you look at them you actually see they completely contradict the main series story. They are a good separate series of Metroid games and nothing more.
@kraus199 o ok but whatever that thing was it might be a sign that there might be another prime series when retro is done taking there ''brake'' from the prime series and forgive me for my spelling i type incorrectly when i type fast. Thanks for the info i kinda get it know LoL.
@Gigaiath well if this has nothing to do with the secret ending after metroid prime 3 then im sure they will make another one ( it might have something to do with it since this game comes after metroid prime 3)
@idiotsanonymus56 no your wrong.metroid 2 is after metroid and super metroid is number 3. and fusion is after other m, and the prime series are the last 3 (for now)
@idiotsanonymus56 I'm not entirely sure about your time line. Metroid prime mentioned the fall of Zebes, Zebes wasn't destroyed until super metroid, so I don't think the metroid prime trilogy happened before super metroid, I could be wrong though.
@Haydeosmith You do blow Zebes to hell in the first Metroid, you just don't fully blow the planet up until the end of Super Metroid. In Metroid Prime you can see that planet Zebes still shows on the list of planets. That and there are still regular Metroids, and you eradicate that species in Metroid 2, so the Prime trilogy is inbetween Metroid and Metroid 2 Return of Samus.
@idiotsanonymus56 ur timeline is wrong its metroid, metroid zero mission, metroid 2 return of samus, super metroid, metroid other m, metroid fusion, metroid prime, metroid prime 2, metroid prime 3, metroid prime hunters
@idiotsanonymus56 Just one thing to add here as it is said above it's Metroid Prime, Prime Hunters, Metroid Prime 2, Metroid Prime 3, I disagree on this part the rest is correct though, but my thought is that it's actually Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2, Metroid Prime 3 and then comes Metroid Prime Hunters, as a minor spoiler in the 100% ending of Metroid Prime 3 states this pretty obvious, When Samus takes of she's being followed by another Character Sylux, following her to the alimbic cluster
@SuperMario51397 Metroid PRIME 3 or Super Metroid? I'm not sure what your asking be cause Prime 3 was on Wii, but Super Metroid was he third installment and Other M takes place the second it ends off.
@ghost3d0091 No, they're not. The only bad one I've seen is Game Informer, and it was a 6.25. Not "terrible" per se. So I wouldn't worry too much; you'll probably find plenty to enjoy.
You know, in the second Metroid, you're pretty much commiting genocide against the Metroids. I know it's for a good cause... probably the only kind of GOOD genocide there is out there.
okay i have an idea and i just thought of it okay so there was the baby metroid and the distress signal was called babies cry get it baby and thats what i think other m stands for, other metroid. idk but i think thats what it means haha
@chucklez1016 Could be Mother Brain related, put the M on the other side and it says Other M, as well the initials Metroid Other M spell MOM, although I'm 99% sure there's another metroid, in the latest trailer they find a mummified carcass, something that only a Metroid could do to a body.
@kr1spness That could be very true i dint think of that. That would also be intriguing. Do you have the name of the trailer you were talking about? Cuz i havent seen it but i want to now

Anything displaying Samus in pre-fusion armor is based before that game.

This doesnt mean this is the final Metroid game, right? D:
Gigaiath 1 year ago
@Gigaiath well if this has nothing to do with the secret ending after metroid prime 3 then im sure they will make another one ( it might have something to do with it since this game comes after metroid prime 3)
Andyrolled 1 year ago
@Andyrolled oh ok, thanks :D
Gigaiath 1 year ago
Game Trailers did a much better retrospective, and it had Metroid metal, how can you go wrong
Snotnarok 1 year ago
The Metroid timeline follows:
Metroid/Metroid Zero Mission (take your pick)
Metroid Prime
Metroid Pime Hunters
Metroid Prime 2 Echoes
Metroid Prime 3 Corruption
Metroid 2 Return of Samus
Super Metroid
Metroid other M
Metroid Fusion
idiotsanonymus56 1 year ago 23
@idiotsanonymus56 no your wrong.metroid 2 is after metroid and super metroid is number 3. and fusion is after other m, and the prime series are the last 3 (for now)

@BlueSnech In the beginning of what?
idiotsanonymus56 1 year ago
@idiotsanonymus56 the beginning of the metroid series
BlueSnech 1 year ago
@idiotsanonymus56 I'm not entirely sure about your time line. Metroid prime mentioned the fall of Zebes, Zebes wasn't destroyed until super metroid, so I don't think the metroid prime trilogy happened before super metroid, I could be wrong though.
Haydeosmith 1 year ago
@Haydeosmith You do blow Zebes to hell in the first Metroid, you just don't fully blow the planet up until the end of Super Metroid. In Metroid Prime you can see that planet Zebes still shows on the list of planets. That and there are still regular Metroids, and you eradicate that species in Metroid 2, so the Prime trilogy is inbetween Metroid and Metroid 2 Return of Samus.

@idiotsanonymus56 I thought I might have been wrong. Just making sure.

@dor820 it seems more likely tht the prime series starts after other m
The16skaterboy 1 year ago
@The16skaterboy The Prime series takes place before Return of Samus. Also, Metroid: Fusion comes last chronologically.
DigiParadise 1 year ago
@idiotsanonymus56 uh metroid fusion is a gameboy game putting it before Metroid the Other M
MistikaManiac 1 year ago
@MistikaManiac Actually, in release date order, yes, Fusion is before Other M. But chronologically, Other M is before Fusion.
Other M takes place before Fusion. You can tell, obviously, because in Fusion, Adam is dead, but in Other M, you're with Adam.

@idiotsanonymus56 Just one thing to add here as it is said above it's Metroid Prime, Prime Hunters, Metroid Prime 2, Metroid Prime 3, I disagree on this part the rest is correct though, but my thought is that it's actually Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2, Metroid Prime 3 and then comes Metroid Prime Hunters, as a minor spoiler in the 100% ending of Metroid Prime 3 states this pretty obvious, When Samus takes of she's being followed by another Character Sylux, following her to the alimbic cluster

ghost3d0091 1 year ago
@ghost3d0091 No, they're not. The only bad one I've seen is Game Informer, and it was a 6.25. Not "terrible" per se. So I wouldn't worry too much; you'll probably find plenty to enjoy.
BlackDiamondPictures 1 year ago
I wish they talked about the Prime series. Since they took place in between Metroid (NES) and Metroid II ( Game Boy ).
killerbumble 1 year ago
You know, in the second Metroid, you're pretty much commiting genocide against the Metroids. I know it's for a good cause... probably the only kind of GOOD genocide there is out there.
Kronosphere100 1 year ago
@Arkonov In the universe of Metroid, esspecially for Samus... there are no happy endings
Kronosphere100 1 year ago
okay i have an idea and i just thought of it okay so there was the baby metroid and the distress signal was called babies cry get it baby and thats what i think other m stands for, other metroid. idk but i think thats what it means haha
chucklez1016 1 year ago
@chucklez1016 Could be Mother Brain related, put the M on the other side and it says Other M, as well the initials Metroid Other M spell MOM, although I'm 99% sure there's another metroid, in the latest trailer they find a mummified carcass, something that only a Metroid could do to a body.
kr1spness 1 year ago
@kr1spness That could be very true i dint think of that. That would also be intriguing. Do you have the name of the trailer you were talking about? Cuz i havent seen it but i want to now
