  • pizoteproduction you either def or just talentless idiot who born to know it all

  • I HATE what he does with all this glorious music. This need to cantor through these beautiful songs. WTF?

Listen and learn from the beautiful, straight, clean expression of Richard Kiley's Don Quixote.

  • if i end up in Heaven I want Brian's voice on the elevator trip up! awesome voice God has truly Blessed him!

  • i wanna hear buck sing this X)

  • Thumbs if Buckley brought you here! :D

  • one of my FAVORITE broadway show MAN OF LAMANCHA.

i will never forget this show.

beautiful mesmerizing and endless love that will captivate your heart.

  • Mark Aaron, Michale Aaron, Stephanie Aaron, Corey Acker, Susan Acker . . . . <------ singing the phone book.

  • Don Quixote - Ultimate Gryffindor

  • Stokes, President of the Actors Fund, sang "Dulcinea" at the tribute to Hal Holbrook / Actors Fund Benefit Tony Awards Dinner last weekend at the Skirball; they showed clips of Dixie Carter as Stokes sang... and there wasn't a dry eye in the house. Overwhelmingly beautiful - and he only gets better with age.

  • I have seen Mr. Mitchell in every musical he was in , and he has NEVER been anything less than superb. If there is anyone anywhere even close to his acting and singing talents, I sure haven't heard of him. The man is simply the best. PERIOD.

  • This man is quite an incredible talent

  • This gets me every time - his voice is just so rich and passionate. Love it ♥

  • i got to hear him sing this live last night.

    i died.

    and cried.

    and loved it.

    i was in heaven.

i'm in love with his voice.

    and him.

  • @millierose1292 Where was it? Was he doing Don Quixote in a production of Man of La Mancha or was he in concert?

  • @ChicagoSouthDan It was in provo, ut at BYU.

It was a concert. He sang a bunch of different songs: the impossible dream, some enchanted evening, soliloquy (from Carousel), how long has this been goin on....a variety. it was amazing.

  • @millierose1292

    it was in provo, utah.

    at BYU.

    it was AMAZING!!!!!

he sang the song, "this nearly was mine," live. (well obviously) without a mike. just him and a piano. the whole audience was dying.

  • @millierose1292 He did the male lead in South Pacific in concert at Carnegie Hall in 2005 and I saw it on public television. That was one of the numbers. Although many of the songs from that performance are posted on youtube, that song was not. Too bad, since his rendition was great, in that performance and I guess at BYU as well. I hope to see him live someday.

  • @millierose1292 Someone named cendrillon325 has posted "This nearly was mine by Mitchell on youtube.

  • @ChicagoSouthDan really??

imma have to look it up.

  • @millierose1292 Whenever I try to post a link on youtube, I get an error. If you search on "This Nearly Was Mine Brian Stokes Mitchell", it will come up. It's from the 2005 Carnegie Hall concert performance of South Pacific.

  • @millierose1292

I was there too [swoon]. Absolutely incredible! Love that man to death. I'm pretty sure we're soul mates ;D.

  • @millierose1292.. God ROSE...get a life..lol

  • @SONOFHERO52 harsh words son, harsh words.

  • @SONOFHERO52

    i have one, thanks!

  • It would be good if I could find something with Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio (sp?) as Aldonza (Dulcinea), but I certainly appreciate Mr. Mitchell's rendition of this song.

  • I just love his version of the song. It really speaks to me. Thank you so much for posting!

  • I am completely IN AWE! He is SOO INCREDIBLE! I cannot stop listening! Where are they now? "Jackpot" from Trapper John has come a long way to build himself an INCREDIBLE career! I hope he brings a show to the new Windspear Opera House in Dallas so I can see him live! SO AMAZING!

  • Purely based off of singing ability Brian Stokes Mitchell has one of the biggest voices in Broadway, 10 times greater then Richard Kiley's, but both did a great job, yet Brian's voice is just incomparably great in every performance he does. Furthermore he does a great job at really fitting into every part he does, always sounds different.

  • Stokes is awesome.

  • Awesome tune!

  • Very well sung of course, but is it just me or is his booming voice a bit like Brian Blessed singing it to you?!

  • I saw Richard Kiley in the original Broadway role & I think Mitchell is every bit as good.

  • I saw that original too and totally agree

  • this guy is a class act

  • TRying to find a video of Impossible dream with Brian Stokes Mitchell on stage with the actress who played Dulcinea. I think it was a revival performance. Used to be here, no longer shows up for search.

  • It was the Tony Awards performance and yes, it has disappeared. One of the few I view weekly. Let's hope it appears again soon.

  • It´s true, it used to be here but cannot be found anymore. Dulcinea was Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio and they were performing at the tony awards ceremony

  • Yes, whoever removed this, please please please put it back. Its clear it was hugely popular and very special tgo many of us. I can understand you removing things if we can buy them somewhere, but we can'y buy this, so please return it. Why deny so much pleasure?

  • @GOAMember Yes, it if from a revival and it has been reposted. For some reason, I was unable to post the link here.

  • For some reason, I am not able to post the link to the video, but you can search on "Brina Stokes Mitchell The Impossible Dream". Then click on "The Impossible Dream Tribute to Teddy Kennedy". This is the Tony performance, but the title of it has been changed. Or you can double-click the fourth video down in the box of videos on the right, which is the Tony Award performance with the proper title. It is now my favorite interpretation of The Impossible Dream.

  • I meant search on "Brian" not "Brina".

  • Stokes Mitchell obviously has charisma and a great feel for Don Quixote, but something sounds wrong with his voice. Almost as though he's used too much vocal fry or pushed too much to achieve that dark tone, and it's damaged the chords. Even so...

  • Keep in mind that Don Quixote is an old man who is a little fried in the head from reading all those stories about noble knights, which is why he thinks windmills are monsters, etc. Of course, Brian Stokes Mitchell sounds fine to me.

  • i love brian in ragtime

  • i love brian stokes mitchell's voice. this guy has talent! my brother was don quixote in our school performance and a couple times he said that he wished he had brian's voice. he did great with his own voice though =]

  • I would listen to this man do a musical rendition of the freakin' phone book. He's amazing.

  • I could not agree more!

    He amazes me.

  • Richard Kiley's soundtrack performance is the standard by which all others are measured.

This one measures out very well.

  • His is heart breaking and beautiful. Read the book . He is a genius much advanced for his time and place

  • Dulcinea was an image of the Virgin Mary for Miguel de Cervantes.

  • I accidentally gave you a thumbs down instead of a thumbs up, and I couldn't correct it. Sorry about that. But considering the role given Dulcinea in the stage production, Mary Magdelene may be a more appropriate image.

  • Thinking it twice, yes, that would probably be a much better option; however I like to think that to Don Quixote every woman is a Dulcinea, an image of the Virgin Mary but covered with the mud of sin... and he sees her interior rather than what's on the outside. But definitely M.Magdala fits the role to perfection.

  • Also, what leads me to link Dulcinea with the V. Mary is the fact that he demands honors even of those who have never met her for if they ever saw her, their honors would have no merit... isn't that an incredible image of the honors that Jesus demands toward His mother whom God himself has exalted over all human creatures?!

  • wow this guy can sing

  • OK, so I'm old, but as good as this is I prefer Richard Kiley's version. The original.

  • betcha I'm older than you are... I prefer Brian's version.

  • I cannot find any recording of Richard Kiley's version on the internet.

  • For a while there was a video clip of Richard Kiley performing live but it's gone. Been listening to the audio version for a long time, though.

  • I agree, Richard Kiley's will always be the version I prefer.

  • Oh my heart!

    BEAUTIFUL.

  • Excellent - NO ONE can sing the songs as well as this man can. The passion alone is wonderful, but his voice......!

  • This man.....I love this man. and the Muleteers after he finishes are awesome too.

  • amazing! Yes Brian is simply amazing!

  • Oh good lord.....that was too beautiful for words....

  • I LOVE YOU

  • Because if he was singing Wheels on the Bus, he would make you feel as though you were on it. It's the acting ability mixed with THAT VOICE that make him sooo good.

  • So Beautiful! Then again brian could be singing 'Wheels on the bus' and i would swoon [:
