  • I,OOO POINTS for being the ONLY video on You Tube containing one of the most beautiful songs EVER written...Sweet Kate and The Ghost of Lost Love!!! 100 points off for cutting off the end of the song!!!

I listen to this over and over, because it's the only version available to me at the moment, and because it evokes lovely memories of my experience on The Empire Builder, but every time it cuts off, it's like getting punched in the heart!!!

I don't suppose there's any fixing that, is there?

  • @pamelyna1 I'm so sorry, I just experienced the same thing myself. I'm going to look into it. With the new editing tools there might be a way. I'm just really grateful to Tracy Grammer (and the publishers) for letting me leave this up. "Friend" me so I can send you a link if I get it fixed. In the mean time, it is available on both Amazon and iTunes for .99 cents

  • Love Enya AND trains!! an unbeatable combination!!!

  • I've taken the Empire Builder,It's a classic..

    I truly love train travel...

  • Wow, that's beautiful! I would love to ride the Empire Builder-in any type of weather! I live north of Seattle in the Everett area.

  • @bloofan06

Thanks! I almost went to the "Irishman" pub in Everett tonight, but I slept too late!

This was rare to see because the train was very late, so we went through much later than usual - normally it's dark when the Empire Builder goes through in the Winter.

  • yes this looks like Blaydon railway station on the Tyne,3/feb/1974

  • Hi Dave

wht was temp through that area?? out side Train?? what station stop is that after? on seattle half?? take care thanks again John Corrigan/Boston Amtrak downeaster train host.

  • Hi dave

what great an relaxing video. Great Job!

thanks John Corrigan/ Boston Amtrak Downeaster Train Host

  • Thanks John! I love Amtrak! (most trips!) You Hosts really make the difference! I know it's been harder to do the job with the cuts over the years.

The Empire Builder is my regular (@20 trips: Sea>Far>Milw) but in Summer 06 I ventured East - Lake Shore Chi>NYC, Crescent NYC>NOL, City of N.O.L . NOL>Chi>Far>Pdx>Sea. 7000+ miles and loved it all!

I really with that Google/Amtrak would take on doing videos of all the routes, and all in daytime! It would be great to show on the trains!

  • We were fortunate enough to be 2hrs late going through the Cascades. Normally this area is in the wee hours on the return to Seattle. The snow was fresh but not falling, so it made reversing the footage possible.

In Spokane I cleaned the rear window of my car before the train split, leaving our car as the end of the train. I held the camera tight against the glass for @30 min, with a few jiggles along the way!

Thanks again for the comment and your work! I really appreciate it!

    Murphy/Seattle

  • Murphy

Thanks for the ride and supper music! Also how you make these great films, and put them together.

    Amtrak Engineer Retired.

  • You are most welcome; and thank you for watching and your comments! I was set to try a Summer trip through the same section a couple of weeks ago, but the combination of the California fires & Midwest floods delayed the connecting trains I was going to take from Portland to Spokane and from Spokane to Seattle.

I made it to Portland & back to Seattle on the "Cascades" - the trip down was a treat, a newly refurbished car with leather seats - First Class job! The Portland station was very cool...

  • It would sure be nice if some company would step to the plate and sponsor the shooting of video in HD of all the routes - and at all times of the day - meaning, to go through places that are normally dark - and shoot them in the daylight.

I actually emailed Google, suggesting it for Google Video, but got no reply. It just seems like it would be so doable these days - hell, I'll volunteer if they feed me and give me a bunk!

  • Stunning! Inspirational! Nice work, first part of music was perfect (On My Way Home). Thank you!

  • This is one of the greatest videos I've ever seen!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE it!

  • Thank you for your kind comment! I regret that he second song with Dave Carter & Tracy Grammer was cut off at the end. I hope to re-do it with just their magical music soon. I love Enya too, but the late Dave Carter wrote some amazing songs that I would love to expose people to. Having Enya on the bill helps with that! Please seek their music out!

  • Well, what I liked most was the forest, but Enya's song was the one that fitted best.

  • Stunning! Yes, this is the one plus about a >= 8 hour late run on a train you've taken before: completely new scenery!

  • pretty nice

  • Is this the westbound train coming down towards Seattle or the eastbound train? Great stuff!

  • Yes, thiws is the westbound, heading to Seattle. The video has been reversed when it seems like I am on the engine. Thank you!

  • I am very curious about how you took this video as I recently posted some clips from my trip on the Empire Builder. Either you were permitted to sit on the nose of the train, or you took the video out of the back window (my method) and the "reversed the film." If you did this, i can't figure out why the trees are not moving and the snow disturbed. Very mysterious. Did you shoot in real time speed, or was this slowed down?

  • Thanks! Yes, I shot it from the back. It was a rare morning - as we were very late (it would normally be dark going through that part in the winter), and yes I adjusted the speed a few times. We were going slowly and there was no wind to speak of. As always, finding a clean part of the window was the hardest part - and keeping the camera steady without a reflection of the lens. imovieHD on a Mac.

  • Come to think of it, this one is real-time speed. I just noticed the give-away that I left in @6:50 - 7:10 - the snow swirl. The other give away in some of the footage I have put up is the very RED signals! Also, we had been stuck in the middle of Cascade Tunnel for almost an hour just before this part was shot. When we entered it - it was snowing on the E side. it was not on the W. Another great break.

  • By the way, another trick for shooting video or stills from a train - bring along glass cleaner & even a long squeegee/sponge. Getting a lower sleeper on the South side of the Empire Builder let's you clean the side at Whitefish - I cleaned the back window or our half in Spokane before they split the train. I cleaned many other's windows too! A great way to get in good with the sleeper car!

  • Brilliant!

  • Excellent !!!
