The project's main web site (internetzombiemovie blog) hasn't been updated in over a month. And this YouTube channel hasn't been logged into in over a fortnight. In which way is that "doing a good job"? I suspect that constructive criticism would be more relevant than praise...
Wow, when you started this I said to myself, is she biting off more than she can chew? The clips I have seen I have been impressed with, and you actually are moving along with it, which also impresses me. From my far off long view perspective, although you are on a bumpy road, it is going forward, and just keep on doing as you do and you will finish it and it will be as all around good as it can be. Although this project seems to be depriving us fans of more regular vids I wish you good luck.
this is supposed to be one of the 'biggest' new social network projects taking place on youtube and the net at the moment. its on the bbc and theres going to a documentary for Tv too made by the same company that made Father Ted and Have I Got News For You. So its potentially pretty big. yet each video clip on here is only getting around 2,000 clicks...thats pathetic. it just goes to show anything to do with the internet is a waste of time. the internet audience is tiny.
Sad to hear that things aren't working out as planned. People are just not aware of how thing Actually work. It's like making a compilation, there has to be a running story line and consistency within all of them. Think about if comic books or fan movies were just written any way they want without a moderator. I feel for you... I really do. Peace and good luck.
It's a learning experience for everyone wanting to take part, I'm a little pissed that the BBC took this direction but I don't think they should shunned out.
I do hope the script can be finalised soon cause I gotta admit I'm starting to worry if we can meet the Halloween deadline
I think your management idea is a step in the right direction: take on more of a coordinating role, and delegate. You said yourself that you can't be there for every decision, and I think that by doing things this way you'll be taking a lot of pressure off of yourself.
And as altruistic an idea as "anyone can participate" is, I think there should be a threshold... otherwise things start to get messy, and the film suffers for it. I suggest you decide who's "in", _now_, before going much further.
I think what your doing is awesome, you dont need to justify anything to anybody.people afre just acting immature and butthurt in the words of mikeskehan.I for one am looking forward to seeing your movie,Peace
(cont. 3) I've said many times, on the forum and directly to the admin team, that I really hope this project succeeds, but the bottom line is you just can't make a film the way they're going about it. I'm not interested in rubbing their noses in it and saying "I told ya so"...I just think it's a real shame that I, and several other people, saw these problems coming early on, but never really got our voices heard. Well, I still hope the film gets made. Good luck to them.
(cont. 2) My plan, and practically all my advice, was ignored, and all I got back was patronising remarks and complaints that they were "upset and offended" by people criticising them. They were clearly working very hard on the project, and like Bryony, their intentions were good - but I never got the impression that they had a firm grasp of how to organise everything, and just got defensive towards me and others on the forum when we tried to point out where they were going wrong.
(cont.) I was in regular contact with Bryony's administrators for a while, because I was excited by the project and wanted to be a part of it. I expressed my concerns to them about the loose organisation. I also wrote a concise action plan for the script-writing process and volunteered a lot of advice on how to keep everyone on the website forum informed and happy.
It really makes me sad to see Bryony like this, because she's always had the best intentions for this project, but the truth of the matter is it has been badly organised from the beginning (by Bryony and the team around her), and this is just the latest example of everyone involved being irritable and exasperated due to a lack of communication, a loose action plan and a totally unrealistic deadline.
Bryony, the problem is that the upset people yell and piss and moan, and so you hear only them. I am sure there are plenty of people that are happy with the direction things are going, but you don't hear them. Those people that don't understand the hard facts of making this movie aren't the ones who are worth getting upset over.
Hey don't worry what bbc and people have to say i think you are doing a good job at the moment and i now what it's like trying to do a project but you also having other things in your life to do to. Like when i had to do my media filming but i only had two weeks left to finish filming and my nan died.
I hope your havinga good time and try not to worry enjoy yourself.
I kind of fell off the planet as it's high season at my job, but I think it is ridiculous that people are getting so wound up about this. A film takes well over a year produce with a professional production team AND a budget. We have neither with the IZM. People need to chill.
I'm not really involved in this, but I just want to say that it seems like you're doing the best you can to make this work, so don't feel like it's your fault if people get a bit upset. Projects this huge are bound to run into some problems, but I think it will all end up as something everyone can be proud of, because everyone involved is so invested in making this movie. Hang in there!
I think your doing a great job, Fuck those who say different ,its jealousy ,that this thing was your idea, they can see this thing is gone be big,so they bash the shit out of it, I wish I had more time to be a part of this, but I am looking forward to seeing the finished product
Everything you say is valid and I sympathize with you. Hang in there, it will be okay. I do understand why people would kindof panic, tho, if the BBC put something out that was genuinely false.
And yes, at some point, there are just too many cooks in the kitchen. Don't feel bad about limiting for the sake of quality.
Having people in charge of different segments of the film sounds like a really good idea - take some of the pressure off of yourself and find people who are more experienced in
(...)specific areas to head them. Then you can have a board of sorts and chose your place in it, whether it's the head organizer or in charge of a segment with someone really organized being the main person in charge and keeping track of progress.
Hang in there!! It's an amazing project and it will be an amazing piece of collaboration.
*Sits still and isn't in a state of panic* Just like I said in Toronto, Thank you for all your hard work. There may be tons of details to sort through but they will get sorted through and things will move forward. The people who are pissed off will always be the people who stand out because people who aren't pissed don't typically say so.
Hang in there. Making a film is quite an undertaking, and making a film of this nature is even more complicated. I made a 13 minute movie once and even that was a lot of work. I support your process 100%, and it will be great when it all comes together.
yo man you can't please everyone! and it's best to start delgating where you can. if you take on too much then you'll just burn out and drip the project altogether.
& obviously not everyone can get involved in the total capacity they think they will, but everyone can lend a hand.
Hey Paperlilies! Don't worry too much about pleasing EVERYONE. Some of the people that think they know best out there are retards anyway. Keep your chin up! I think you deserve a bit more gratitude from the people out there that just want to contribute THEIR own bit to the script, cuz i'd bet that none of them would have the guts or the intelligence to be able to manage the whole thing.
the BBC are bastardmofocrackwhores who definitely do not deserve the license fee. May they die the death of sucking 10'000'000 stale putrid bitter lemons. May George W Bush drink the blood of every one of them. Bryony, keep up the good work. We believe you.
it's gonna take time bry just breathe it's cool.i'm thinking your not a pro filmmaker like steven speilberg so we shouldn't expect everything.you can't have 2 different style of zombies it'll fuck things up.just stick with a solid zombie.too bad everyones pissed off but eh your human you need a break too.
I know a lot of people are going to be giving you advice so sorry if this just another. You're doing a fantastic job with this but it's grown beyond a scale that 1 person can handle. Like I think you said, you need to hand over the different aspects to other people and not worry about the little stuff. Let them deal with it and you oversee the overall thing. Maybe rethink the Halloween deadline too. Take some pressure off yourself. You're doing alright hun, just don't go under in the process. X
Any project of the scale of yours is going to go through at LEAST one rough patch - its only natural. Stick with it like you are and it should survive regardless. It's all part of the process (imo!)
lol I love the abrupt ending of this. I went to go watch the bbc video and I actually liked it. I think they're kind of smart to play up the behind-the-scenes drama. Typical reality TV editing techniques. I would just try to take that element of things forgranted and have fun with it.
Yay. Glad you're back online. It was really shitty luck that all that discontent flared up while you were extremely busy and disconnected. I feel bad now for sending you an e-mail about it. Oh well. Hope the rest of your holiday is cool.
Yeah, I knew this would be tough. People will be pissed, but that is a way of the process. We need to learn to compromise...just cause it isn't how we would do it, doesn't mean it isn't good. Doing anything creative is difficult with several people....but it is possible if we work as one.
I think the problem is that you've tried to do too much at once rather than trying to follow more of a standard schedule a movie production usually goes through. That and you're learning management skills on the fly because of the poor initial flow. I think it would probably be better to take a step back and break the production into chronological sections.
I'm a little ticked off at the BBC too for not being able to view the zombie movie videos there. And if you do a DVD you would have to worry about the DVD zones. Zone 1 or Zone 2?
But I agree that making an elaborate video is a process and you have to adapt to circumstances. It's cut and fill. And who does the final edit? It's probably like painting where you first rough out the picture and do the fine details later. And you then ask what does the picture need for a finishing touch?
Who "owns" the direction of the project? The Producer,and/ or the director? Those are the persons who have the final say, about publicity, and the script and the casting. Delegating authority to move the segments along,is fine, but at the end,the Big Boss must have the final say.
Hey, don't worry about it. I know people are worried, but if anyone has tried to make a film then they know that it's something that takes time.
I mean I know my snippet might not get in, nor my vlog may not get used. I respect that. I do think that the BBC owes it too you to at least confirm with you before they make statements.
Either way, I haven't really paid attention to them because getting the scipt done is the bigger priority.
when you put out such a great idea there will invariably be people who get pissed at it if it doesnt please everybody in some way or another, just chill babe, it will be ok!
ur the one that should be the one thats pissed ur the director lol

Hey, don't worry about it. I know people are worried, but if anyone has tried to make a film then they know that it's something that takes time.
I mean I know my snippet might not get in, nor my vlog may not get used. I respect that. I do think that the BBC owes it too you to at least confirm with you before they make statements.
Either way, I haven't really paid attention to them because getting the scipt done is the bigger priority.

It is the internet -- how hard is it to find someone who will be pissed off?
