I'm just thinking about Char's plan. His plan was to drop Axis on Earth so that humanity would be forced to go to space as a next step of advancement and one day would become Newtypes. What if Char's plan failed. What if humanity didn't evolve into Newtypes? What if humanity was wiped out because of the Axis drop? Does advancing humanity worth the staggering amount of human life? I would like to know whats your take on this.

Oddly I find Char to be the true Hero of the Universal Century, one that sadly fell because of the events during the Gryps Conflict and Neo Zeon war. What happen to Kamille was good enough reason for anyone to be bitter. Char had done more to help the world up before Char's Counter Attack than Amuro could of ever hoped, I find it sad what happened to him.

UC history wise he is the most famous personal I think ever, in that timeline to the people in it. It wasn't called Amuro Returns to speank Char, it was called Char's Counter Attack, or Char's Rebellion. Amuro even understood why he was doing what he did, but thought it was wrong none the less.

I actually like the alternate timelines. The UC seriesis the best but kind of have to watch them all from the original to Unicorn because so much of the plot is heavy on knowledge of events that happened before or even after whatever point in the franchise you are watching (save for 08th MS Team because of its self contained plot) . The alternate timlines are a decent way for casual viewers to get a gundam experiece because they are self contained, just don't watch G Gundam or SD Gundam...

@idahobuckeye I guess...but the shonen action cliches (G-Gundam was basically a long tournaments saga in the same vein as YuYu Hakusho and DBZ) relly made me forget G-Gundam even was a Gundam series at all...there were no politics, no military sci-fi elements, it was not techincally a war story...it was a shonen fighting anime with some mecha elements which is why it does not work as a good intro to the gundam franchise. still a fun show though.

But they were not really "Gundam" series as they were lacking the staples and hallmarks of the Tomino-series or many of the other alternate timelines. There were no politics, they weren't very violent, they weren't overly complicated war stories. It's just my opinion that if you were gonna introduce someone (an anime fan) to the Gundam franchise, you shouldn't start with SD Gundam or even G Gundam

Like most americans my first series was Mobile Fighter G.

There was certanly alot of betrayal, political backstabs, and intended genocide.

Gundam Shows are for kids and teens, they arnt that violent other than the rare decapitation.

G-Gundam was a little too "super robot shonen tournament fighting show" but yea, it was alot closer to the spirit of the rest of the franchise than other spinoffs. Gundam Wing was my 1st gundam series and that one has the stigma of being lauded by detractors as "Backstreet Boys in Space" but watching it again, it's tone and story is alot more in line with the Tomino UC saga than SD Gundam.
