  • Heard this while staying at Mandalay Bay Vegas - they were playing over speakers around the centrally located bar / cafe. Used a cell app - which told me the name. Got home, found it here. Interesting song.

  • rumelia - the way turks used to call Southern Bulgaria - literally Rum Millet - Land of Romans :-)

  • Rumeli al beni, bedenimi, aklimi, bir tek bana birak kalbimi

    suzuleyim ovalarindan ruzgarina, cayirlarindan tepelerine.

  • This song is called "rumelaj" and it is a Balkan song, therefore it is Turkish, Bulgarian, Romanian, Macedonian etc. all at the same time.

Candan Erçetin's version is merely a cover with new lyrics, and you can find many other versions on the web.

  • Reply -> geri1112: Definitely not hebrew! Check tags: rumelia, rumelaj(y)

Various notes place this song as having roots in Macedonia, Bulgaria or Turkey.

    There are also several interpretations.

The words are rumoured to be obscene, but are generally viewed to concern the seduction of a girl called Rumelia.

  • It's not romanian

  • Apart from the language, the tune is quite difficult to sing!
