I was wondering, I live in Germany, so self rising flour isn't really found anywhere, and if it is, very expensive...how do I use normal flour ( flour/baking soda ratio). Basically how much i can combine to get it right?
Great recipe! And simple! I tried it today using some "cream cheese" I made from Kefir and they were wonderful. For those of us who don't normally keep self-rising flour, it's 1 1/2 tsp baking soda and 1/2 tsp salt for every cup of regular flour.
WOW! These are different in a great way Betty! Never had this variety of biscuit before. Will try it!Betty do you think when working with dough if you can put a small cutting board in the refrigerator that the dough is easier to work with? I have head that but have never tried it.Can parchment paper be used instead of a greased cookie sheet when baking any thing? Thank you.
@LESTER7L1 I've never tried chilling the cutting board--that might work. Yes, you may use parchment paper, but I would tend to grease it or spray it. Thanks for all of your lovely comments, Lester!
@gardbee Yes. Fore each cup of all purpose flour, add 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon salt, to be equivalent to 1 cup self-rising flour.
Fantastic looking biscuits, Betty!! Thanks for a new way to make biscuits! Can you taste the cream cheese in the biscuit? ((Hugs)) and Merry Christmas!! from Angie in AR
@kokonutbaby1 Hi Angie! Thanks for your sweet comment! No, you would never be able to pick out the flavor of cream cheese from the biscuits; they just have a nice texture. I hope you are having a wonderful Christmas season; I think of you often!
betty..do you know any recipies or have done any on philly cheese steak? Also..I tried these, they were delicious, and fluffy. your food is so good, that I accidentally over eat too much on it:( lol, when I went to rhythmic gymnastics practice yesterday, my couch yelled at me for gaining 3 pounds..(all couches are like that)..oh well, it was worth it, haha.(:
I love to learn new things about cooking and you taught me something today. I have always been taught not to knead biscuit dough because it supposedly makes the biscuits tough. In this video you kneaded your dough and I swear to you these are the most beautiful tender looking biscuits I have ever seen. Thank you for your knowledge.
@KHooooi For cutting cream cheese and butter into flour, you need to use them straight from the refrigerator. You don't want them mashed into the mix; you need to maintain little bits of cream cheese and butter.
I've always been told not to mess with the biscuit dough too much or it will result in them being tough but you really kneaded your dough and looks like your biscuits turned out beautiful. ;0)
Can you please make '' butter milk biscuts''. If you have ever been to the popeyes resturant , it taste sooo good . Anyways . THANKY YOU FOR READING :)
we mix butter and honey here, kind of like your brown sugar-butter mix! I'll try these soon, they look wonderful..big hugs from OH!

Betty I though you weren't supposed to work the dough too much or is that only with buttermilk biscuits?
Fitange 2 months ago
@Fitange You shouldn't work with dough too much, but it should be easy to handle, and that's why I knead it a few times.

Hi Betty I always understood that we werent to handle biscuit dough or it would yield tough biscuits?
Why not cut the biscuits into squares for efficiency of dough....slice into squares & bake without having to cut out dough & rework it ?
