For me top choice was UC Santa Cruz but was turned off by the segregation of the university in to ten colleges all categorized by ethnic and fit ins. So much for diversity of the human race? But now it's either Merced or Davis. :D
Yeah, it's like that for most people. And it's not as boring as it seems (although other schools probably have better things to do, not going to lie). You just have to find things to do with friends!

I live in Modesto, (hour away) and luckily for me, I am familiar with the area. Tons of great fishing, biking trails and offroad trails for me to enjoy. Im attending UC Merced in the fall.
@napalm4sd I'm going to UC Merced this fall too! I live in Anaheim CA, five hours away, ha. I've never ever seen the campus apart from pictures and videos. Of course, I'm dorming. I'm so excited!
The school itself is beautiful, but if you are not familiar with the Valley and its surroundings then you are going to think there is nothing to do and its in the middle of nowhere. Luckily, if you like the outdoors, there couldn't be a better school to go to, seeing as how Merced is the gateway to yosemite. =)
