He did brag about it, but not in a smug way. Whenever he brought it up, it was always in a discussion regarding nuclear war. People arguing that it was okay were quickly shot down when he brought up he saw what heat, destruction and radiation does first hand.... twice.

You have to note that back then, the idea of bombing specifically to kill large numbers of civillians was considered okay, and that having one bomb creating more destuction then an entire airfleet was a very apealing idea.

They were okay leveling entire cities conventionally, but unlike conventional bombings, WMD have long term effects, giving people horrific disseases, affecting the unborn, and harming people hundreds of miles away.
