Woah, I just found out that Vince Gilligan based Cranston's character on a guest appearance that he did on the X-Files, in the 6th season episode, "Drive". I never would have guessed that, but the similarities are impeccable. Heck, I'm pretty sure "Drive" takes place in New Mexico too.

This is a great show that works on all levels (acting, writing, directing, editing, pacing), but that doesn't stop it from being incredibly overrated.

The show has never been realistic...it proved to be a fantasy show right from the pilot episode. It doesn't hold a candle to Six Feet Under or The Wire when it comes to realism, I have no idea where people get the idea otherwise.
