  • I thought "an endless capacity for dissembling" meant that she is the type of person to wreck things, for example she attempted to destroy John and Elizabeth's marriage to be with John. :/ I suppose it can mean different things because I did agree with you.

  • she was a bitch lol

  • Motionless in White..

  • Abigail Williams is the most hateful character in history of cinema.

  • lmfao abigial is truly the baddest bitch, she know what she wants and she knows how to get it.

  • abby is the funniest character in this.

"Hey, I just put your wife on death row you wanna run away with me?"

seriously what a fucking bitch and whore!

  • We have to read this in class, and we all have characters to read for. I am Abigal beacause I wanted to be, but that was before realizing she is a backstabber and she uses others weaknesses as her advantages. :/ Oh no! I have to play her for the whole book!

  • 6 people work with the devil!

  • Abigail Williams, I hate her with all my heart. I actually want to KILL her, drag her back from Hell and KILL her again

  • Good analysis =)

  • I play abigail in my english class, and oh...I get into it ;)

  • @TheDarkMitzuki me too I'm so into the character that my teacher told me too tone it down haha

  • @amparent37 I am Abigail too, and I didn't even realize how horrible she was!

  • We're reading the play in my English class, and I'm Abigail. c: I looked this up to see if I did a good enough job portraying her. I think I could pass off as her except I'm not really anything like her. She's quite an easy part.

  • This is the first helpful video I've seen all day. I just got Abigail in a small production of it. This is my first antagonist role, and this video is really useful :D

  • i play mary warren in english class :D

  • I got cast as abigail in my Play Production class, it's going to be a great production. I'm so lucky to work with some very amazing actors and i wanted to compare the abigail you see in the movie with the abigail I play. Very interesting!

  • I get to play Abigail in my English class. I'm excited xD

  • Very good analysis. :)

  • I wish i'd looked this stuff up wen i had my English exam on this!! myt of passed then haha

  • can someone post the forest scene? From the actual movie

  • thank you very much for this video =D we're doing the crucible as a school play and i'm hoping to get the role of abigail. this helped a lot

  • Ms. Ryder did an outstanding job as Abigail Williams. She knew how to bring the character to life and she sure had me convinced of Abigail's evil side.

  • How people today solve problems: with discussions and debates

How puritains solved problems: by punching people in the face

  • @RaineSageFan and by hanging people just for looking at them the wrong way

  • I haven't seen the film and performed parts of the play with an acting group, I played John Proctor and our scene was so much different, this scene for us was very tense and Abby was constantly manipulating the situation because she wanted John so much.

  • I am Cheever in our play!

  • I am in the crucible play for school :D I'm Ann putnumn & understudy for Mary Warren woot woot

  • DON"T LIE TO ME I SAW IT!!!!!

  • excuse me but im abigail williams you do not my permission to make me feel i am not a crucible and i have autism

  • If i was betty and i got smacked by Abigail I would smaked the heck out of her even if she was bigger then me. I think if one girl stood up to Abigail then the rest of the girls would've fought back. If i was mary i would have told her off i wouldn't even cared if she threatened me because if she touched me or any of the girls there would be a fight. Im sorry but Abigail just get on my nervs with tht lying, cunning, vengeful spirit of hers.

  • I'm researching characters from The Crucible before an audition. However unlikely I'll be Abagail, she seems a very layered, motivated character.

  • We read this play and watched this movie in my American Lit class earlier this year. Good play and excellent movie/adaptation.

  • i read this this morning, and this video really allows to me to understand her character much better.

  • We are studying The Crucible in English right now; I am enjoying it very much! Abigail Williams is a great character! One of my favourites, in fact because she is such an effective and awesome antagonist. I love how she is innocent one moment and wicked and manipulative the next!

Well done, Arthur Miller! Nicely written play!

  • everyone in my class want her dead

  • thx man

  • post the whole movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @deeperRootsProject so at the end of the vid if she doesn't get wat she wants she becomes a bitch?

  • jeeze ever since i played john people keep calling me stallion -.- everybody always is like...sweated like a stallion etc. etc.

  • I love your northern accent :)

  • @PiecesOfRainbow7 Me too. :D

  • @DeeperRootsProject How about you suck a fart out of my asshole?

  • @DeeperRootsProject

Hey my Junior project is about the crucible and it's relations to human nature could you give me some good examples? I've read the book but I suffer from poor memory. :)

  • @DeeperRootsProject If you say "Drawing", "Idear", or "Warsh"... I hate you. Period. Other than that, it's okay. It sounds English. =P

  • I wanted to punch her in the face so many times during the movie.

  • i'm going on a fieldtrip on tuesday at salem

  • @kijodragonfist60 I wish I could go there. my friend told me about this town.

  • and whore

  • What.......A.........Bitch

  • Wynona Ryder did a wonderful portrayl of abigail, playing three different personalities in one girl

  • hmm...what I want to know is like...how does the movie end?! I can't wait till monday when we finish the movie I know I'm horrible lol ><

  • Playing john Procter in the theater is going to be fun ^ ^

  • That bitchslap at 1:57...That's gotta hurt

  • Omg Im Using The Scene 4:09-5:57 For An Audition As Abigail Williams Tmrw That Will Take Me To New Jersey, London.England , And Edinburgh,Scotland. Hopefully I Get The Part.. Wish Me Luck!o.O

  • i'm playing abigail in the crucible in november and this helped me SO much. thank you!

  • I've got an Audition for this play tomorrow! Cross your fingers for me! Hope I get the part of Abigail!

Thanks for the video by the way, the line I'm using to audition is on the second clip =) Helps a lot!

  • @DeeperRootsProject could you upload the real movie, ive never seen it, and i was abscent when my school showed it.

  • Abigail is a narcissist.

Has a grandiose sense of self-importance

Is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited power.

Believes that he or she is "special" and unique.

    Has a sense of entitlement.

    Is interpersonally exploitative.

    Lacks empathy

Is often envious of others or believes that others are envious of him or her

Shows arrogant, haughty behaviors or attitudes.

    Tell me that's not Abigail!

  • - iSaw this movie in 7th qradee (: .

It was really qood, but Abigail is totally is BiTCH ! .

  • This is the first time that Winona Ryder played a villian. Abigail Williams is a real liar when she wants to be. She is also a harlot, something that most churches, even The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, frown upon.

  • On my channel I have a video of the performance of the Crucible I was in, I played Elizabeth. Please check it out. Sammy x

  • Thankyou so much. You've helped me so much with my essay x

  • abigail is a royal bitch.

gotta say this assignment really intrests me unlike all of the other english 3 assignments.

im actually gonna read this time :P

  • I am studying this in my English 11 class. Mr. Parris is so damn stupid all he cares about is his reputation. Abigail is a liar she fucked John Proctor and was trying to cast a death spell on Johns wife Elizabeth

  • @DeeperRootsProject The analysis of Abigail you have done is very well. However, do you think that this multiple personality used to manipulate people's mind and her bold and defiant attitude could be because she grew up an orphan? Because she had always been treated badly? Because she had to fight for her own survival?

  • @weijoshual It could be any one of a number of things. Unfortunately we're never allowed to know that. Maybe because Miller felt it would remove some of the symbolism embodied in Abby.

  • @DeeperRootsProject Thanks so much for your videos on The Crucible. I'm doing it for my HSC in Australia and these videos help me a lot!

  • she is one of those few cases of a naturally evil person, given the chance to bloom. Simple as that

  • I'm playing Abigail for my GCSE piece, this really has helped. Thanks!!

  • they didn't have an affair, abigail was 11 and beatrice was 9 gosh

The Puritanism in them was so strong and this is an event where the DEVIL had really corrupted their minds .

Their faith alone disappeared as suppose to what Luther started

  • huh?

  • I think what Jenaya123 is saying is that they had long departed from Luther's reformation agenda. However, I'd disagree given that they followed the teachings of John Calvin who wanted to reform the church far further than Luther had.

  • America was scared of Communism but instead of honestly voicing their concerns, informing & containing it they incited hatred and fear by blacklisting everyone they could and getting others to name names. It's mass prejudice.

  • shes bi-polar lol

  • Heya

I think this is reall helpful for anyone playing Abigal. I am playing her in my drama AS exam so this has really helped me understand her character and help with the acting. Cheers for that

  • i think abby is incredibly sympathetic. being in rehearsal for this play for three weeks now, i find myself drawn more and more toward her plight rather than proctor's. proctor is basically an unrepentant pedophile who verbally abuses his own wife whenever she has the gall to protest and ultimately refuses to take any real responsibility for his deplorable actions.

  • 8:01 SWEATED LIKE A STALLION!!!!!! My class's favorite line of the book!!!

  • im playing abigail in my final year production for college

thank you for this vid, its really informative.

  • It's not funny to hang people for witchcraft, but it is ridiculous and there is humour in the ridiculous. I'm saying the play read funny and thats my opinion. It could have been satiricial. I also think it took many elements from Macbeth. The film is way overacted and fucking boring too.

  • arthur miller was actually alluding to the Red Scare when everyone was being accused of being a Communist; he wrote this because he was comparing the Communist Scare and the Salem Witchcraft Trials; they were even charging Hollywood as being communist headquarters. So yes, in a way it is "funny", but it is quite satirical because Arthur Miller uses the absurdism of the witchcraft trials to represent how absurd the communist accusations were....this has nothing whatsoever to do with Shakespeare.

  • its horrible thinking that in real life abby was actually 11 or 12 and john was in his60s or something D:

  • @ohmygodSARAH

they didn't have an affair in real life though, that's why Miller changed their ages.

  • Move the Dang mouse‼

  • shes naked in the first five minutes

  • I always lol'd at 4:27, quick ass reflexes lol

  • LMFAO

  • where can i download this movie?

  • Comment removed

  • Great analysis! :-)

  • The play reads quite lightl-even funny-for a drama, I think it's a little overacted here.

  • @azurelikeit1 It's not light or funny. You're kinda messed up if you think hanging people because some stupid little girls said they were witches is funny then maybe you should take a visit to the vacant houses or the grave sights. >=[

  • i was mary warren in my high school production last year.

  • oh my gosh ! me too !

    :)

  • yay :)

  • great movie

  • THE DEVILLLLLLLL

  • i have to do a news broadfcast on act 1.. its fun

  • i am mary warren. performing tomorrow!

  • HAVE FUN!!!!

  • i played john proctor, mary warren, and reverend hale. we got to pick parts :)

  • lol mehh too our english class read dis..

  • just finished this book in english.

i had to be Elizabeth Proctor.

  • I'm also reading this in my english class. And right now we're watching the movie, and oh my! There's a lot of screaming!

The book isn't that bad as I thought it would be!

  • we're reading this in my english class and its actually pretty good

  • I have to do that too. Today actually....

"I will bring a pointy reckoning that will shudder you"

    Love that part....

  • @NavyAviation2016 I'm reading this play in my class, and its awful. They have absolutely no critical thinking skills. I mean, most of the characters can't even exercise common logic correctly. They accuse people of doing things when they have no motivation to do them. I hate this play

  • we are reading it and i have to be her when we act out

  • We open this show at my school in two weeks, & Abigail is, by far, the most fun character I have ever had. :D This really helped affirm that I'm taking the right approach to her; thank you!

  • Is she going to fly again? I hear she flies.

  • great overview... going over this in school now. helped a lot.

ps: noticed a weird squeaking... maybe camera?

  • Thank you for this these videos are really helpful!! r u a teacher>! you would be awesome!!!

  • Drama teacher. See my channel description for more info. :)

  • It's like her feelings are controlled by the actions of reverend parris.

  • how big a city is Middlesbrough, eh?

  • Thanks for this, i found this extremely helpful! i think ive got it now...i think... :P

  • would you be able to do a video on john proters role in the crucible if not already done? link

  • you voice reminds me of shrek

  • Haha, that's a new one. I suppose its because I'm from Middlesbrough which is about 150 miles away from Scotland. :D

  • Thank you so very much for this in-depth look at Abigail. I'm researching the role, and I found this very helpful to understanding the correct emotions to portray during those parts.

  • Thanks for putting this up here! I am auditioning for the part of Abigail this week! I'll let you know how it goes!

  • I played Betty haha

  • What? In the film?

  • God no lol In a play x) I wish....

  • Oooooooooooooooh, I seeeeee. :p

  • Why is Marry Warren so spirited?

  • me too! well i'm cast as her as of today. is she only in the beginning?

  • just act 1 and act 3 ;)... my show just finished.. was amaaaazing, i was giles corey :P

  • thank you..

    i'm playing abby..

    this has helped

    (:

  • this helped me so much, thank you!

  • im doing coursework on this right now and this has helped tons THANKYOU!!!!

  • wow this is really good

i have an oral exam how abigail is presented in the first act and i haven't read the book in two years.

    so thankyou(Y)

  • hey, thanks for making this video! We are doing the crucible for our final piece for AS and i'm playing abigale, your vid is really helping me develop and understand the character. And god she's evil, i've never had the challlenge of playing an evil charater but i am liking it. have you got any good acting tips for this character?

  • i wrote an essay on Abigal Williams for my English class, a LOT like your vid!!

  • we're doing this play at my school this year and im trying out for the part of abigail

thanks this clip was really helpful

  • dude i like your accent omfg lol

  • I love the crucible! Im in year 10 and started doing it to prepare for my GSCE in yr 11.

I didnt get the part of Abigail =(

I got the part of hathorne. Instead..

Thanks for the videos! Really helpful!

  • Never mind, Hathorne is a bit of small part but he's fairly authoratative so you can get your teeth stuck into him

  • So, as im doing this part for my GCSE, because its a small part, how can i get an A - A* ?

Im so dissapointed i got such a rubbish part. :(

  • Are you capable of getting an A / A*?

  • Honestly, Im capable of getting about a B - But just for the record - what shall i be aiming at to get perhaps an A?

  • Cut and paste this url on the end of YouTube's website and watch. I explain the mark scheme.

    watch?v=-c21Cji2Gr4&feature=related

  • it isnt about the part you get

i think its more how you are

even if you get a small part, they judge you how you are on stage!

sooo.. even if youre not talking- use facial expressions etc and make sure youre always in character!

i did it for gcse a couple years ago! :) i was mary warren!

  • Sz for the extreamily late reply. Yeahh thanks, my teacher actually changed the whole way our exam is going to go so my part changed and funny enough - im mary warren! :D XX

  • Wassat then?

  • Can you please help me with the tension between Abigail and Tituba in Act 1 when Abigail starts accusing Tituba of her drinking blood and conjuring spirits?

Could you exlplain why Abigail reacts in the way she does? It would be so much help if you could, im really struggling! =(

  • Hi, I'll do my best in 500 characters. Why do you think Abigail would accuse Tituba of making her do the things she did? Think about the way that black people were viewed in the puritan society? By accusing Tituba what was Abigail doing for herself?

  • Thanks so much for all of your Crucible videos!

My final performance piece will be based around the Crucible, and I've been given the role of Abigail. I really appreciate your in-depth look at her character--it's made her so much clearer.

  • tooshay

  • When clips are shown, there appears to be a mouse in the center of the screen. It does get distracting at times and would be better if it was off to one side.

Other than that, I enjoyed listening to what you had to say.

  • Yeah I know. I was using iShowU at the time and didn't have a video converter. The majority of my videos don't have that now.

  • Aw! I total love the crucible :D I'm doing it for my higher, which i think is year 11... im in scotland.

i didn't get to be abigail - gutting - i have to do elizabeth in the blandest scene. Gonna check out some more tutorials - really helpful, thanks!

  • Which scene? I think Elizabeth is a really juicy part, she's hiding so much contempt for John but still trying to be a good Christian wife.

  • start of act 2. i suppose so :) i just love abigail cos she's quite the wicked little girl.

  • That's the best scene. So much under the surface. She has a lot of contempt. Abigail's far less subtle so I can see why you'd want to be her.

  • you seem like a really cool teacher :)

  • Try telling that to my year 11s. =(

  • Lol...

    You're crazy but you're cool. ;)

  • We're reading the crucible in my english class.

  • How lucky am I that I find this? I have a paper to work on and I needed help with her character.

You just saved my arse! Are you a teacher of sorts?

  • Drama teacher in the UK for 11 to 16 year olds. This is part of the GCSE course that all students across the country do in their final two years of school. I'm just ahead of other teachers who don't like using computers. Sigh.

  • im in the play, the crucible nd i got the part of abigail! ahahaha

  • me 2 lmao !!!!!! seriously :D

  • Fantastic video! Really great points and criticism.

  • Thank you for this, it really helped me out a lot with my essay for my English class. :)

I love the Crucible. Abigail, I don't like her charcter but she is fascinating and amazing in my opinion.

  • may i ask where u got this movie if u even got it off the internet

  • It's available on DVD at any store. Certainly here in the UK.

  • I dont like the book or the movie mainly becuase at the end of the story There is No justice...

  • I suppose that depends on how you define justice. I think Proctor feels he got justice because he went to the noose but he felt that that's what he deserved.

It is a very sad ending though.

  • "Elizabeth Proctor is an envious gossiping liar". Ha! like you have room to talk. Abby is the epitome of envious gossiping liars! i love your work. It really helped me to understand the play better so thanks for that

  • She's just a selfish, jealous little brat who is extremely good at manipulating people. Very Christian I'm sure.

There's more videos coming up so please consider subscribing. :-)

  • That iShowU?

  • Certainly is.

  • Thanks, this has helped my revision.
