  • Oh totheark, you so crazy...

  • As a storyteller here in Savannah, GA, or birthplace & retiring home of Conrad Aiken, I would humbly offer up that schizophrenia would be perhaps the best guess based on Aiken's own family history and expressing fears of succumbing to the disease like his father, Dr. Ford Aiken, had and some other family members prior.

  • When this story was taught to me in say 7th grade or so, we were taught that he was clearly schizophrenic. it stuck with me, and I often think of it when there is a big snow and the world sounds different.

  • does anyone know any info on the cast? the mother looks like the lady who worked at the newspaper office in the leave it to beaver episode beaver and pancho.

  • the look to the film brings to mind david lynch's the grandmother or eraserhead.

  • This one appears to be glitchy as well, the other version of this on Youtube was glitchy as well, this one is less glitchy at least.

  • The music and film reminds me of Night of the Living Dead. Strange flik. There's absolutely no plot whatsover. I could have spent that time smoking a cigarette.

  • the enigma deepens...

  • dats what i suffer from

  • It seems to me Paul is suffering from Asperger's Syndrome.

  • This isn't aspergers.. Its schizophrenia. It isn't a natural social ineptness or obsession. It was caused by delusions and hearing voices both of which go to schizophrenia. He was acting unlike himself when he started acting strange. You're born with aspergers, it doesn't develop out of nowhere. If he had no problems before this, and no other problems besides this, it doesnt fit. plz 2b looking up schizophrenia.

  • @thechaz83 aspergers is a type of autism, associtated with most aspects of autism, but also creativity, great memory, great math and science skills, this is more of a type of schitzophrenia

  • totheark?

  • LMFAO

    MarbleHornets ftw.

  • For those who love this story. I tried to find the Night Gallery version for years and finally found it ,plus the original 1966 version on youtube. I recocgnized the backround of the outdoor shots and was able to place it within a few blocks of my home in Nyack ,NY. I have great photos of the original film location if anyone is intersteted.

  • vielen dank, joe

  • Once can see how the knowledge of delusion/hearing voices if expressed would make a difference in term of diagnosis. Id like to know more of the character and clinical presentation the story is based on.

  • I find these two videos incredibly interesting. The first most touching aspect to me is the very modern script, image and filming, the poetry of it. Id need to see the initial conception of the short story to place the meaning of Pauls presentation into the context of a condition, but certainly on surface, it seems much more like Schizophrenia than Asperger, though, as it is acted, without knowing how the person thinks, the presentation could be seen very much like an ASD.

  • I've put a link to the original short story in the side-bar, maybe you are interested in. I hope it works.

  • There is actually a book written about this flm called "From Fiction to Film:Conrad Aiken's Silent Snow, Secret Snow". It includes the original script and the original short story, criticism of the film and short story and a clinical evaluation of a literary character by a Psychologist. It was written by Gerald Barrett and Thomas Erskine and published by Dickenson Publishing Company. You might find a copy from an online seller of used books.

  • In watching this video it does not appear that Paul's condition

is going to be understood by anyone in his environment anytime soon, whether it be schizophrenia, Asperger, or some combination of the two, in either case he appears to be a bright child at risk of developing more emotional problems if this lack of understanding continues.

  • now there's film noir!
