I think you would all agree with me that while most singers have to stick to a particular style of singing Dolly hasn't got to do any such thing. She could sing Reggae, Calypso, Classic or maybe even Opera and she would still sound damn good and right at home. She is simple JUST VERY DARN GOOD no matter what type of musical accompanimnet she uses.
@TheMark180 : I use fairly inexpensive acrylic and do a base layer and then watered down washes until I get the desired effect. After, I seal the painting with a nice liquitex matte finish.
Fantastic, im a huge dolly fan have been since i was 8 yrs old. You have done such an amazing job, she would even see the beauty in this. Keep up the awesome work. What dolly song is this? I have to get it!
this is actually amazing!! I love how you started with a clean sheet and changed her into something different! I'm happy that you didnt make her like a creepy/scary zombei. ALso Dolly looks so life like in the middle to the end and i want to congratulate you on doing such a great job! you're a VERY talented artist!!
Thanks very much. I first learned to paint using oil bars and my fingers on canvas board. But since i made the switch to acrylics, ive been too lazy to dabble in oils, i almost feel id have to learn everything over. Also, as you can see, i change my mind a lot, and it helps that acrylics dry in minutes. But one day i would love to work with oils, grad school maybe
You're a very fine artist, but I may be a bit dense, here - but the painting went through So Many changes...just in the hairstyle, for instance - was that intentional for the video? Or did you keep changing your mind about the hair...and then the flesh tones on the face, etc.? It certainly looked to me like the painting was finished at least 5 times during the timelapse video. I'd love to hear your answer. No matter what - you're exceptionally good in acrylic - a very rough medium to work in.
Thank you for the nice words. I spent more time on this portrait because it was for a friend of mine, and Dolly has so many decades of iconic looks.
I kind of have an sequence of rendering things in my paintings from most to least important, and once i have say, the face figured out, then i can start on the hair, then i might react to what i have going on and change the face, and then the hair, until it "feels" right.
Thank you, graysoncoffee. I'm just getting into acrylic portraiture, and it is daunting (and encouraging) to see someone like you - who can do So Much in this difficult medium. And by difficult, I mean your gradations on Dolly's face (magnificent), and the way you treat hair as mass, yet with a real feeling for how the hair should look. Just amazing to look at. You've heard this before, but man, you are great!

Hey Grayson- Do you ever use glazing medium for any of these zombie paintings or just gold old-fashioned H20? Amazing work.
