Everything he says works my husband and I will be debt free in December of 2012 we are 25 and 26 . I can;t wait, we have the home study kit and I love having it to go back and reference when we might fall off.
does anyone know how much the market has averaged in 2011? because in my intro to finance class and it was made it 2008 and in 2008 apparently averaged 12% and im not sure its even 10% 2011
I have a friend who is 30, makes only $11.00 an hour at a nursing home and has almost 80,000 saved up in a mutual fund. He follows the principles laid out by Dave. One time we stopped at Burger King and I got a meal that was about $8.00 and he couldn't believe I spent that much.
I gotta admit that I had trouble getting started on his program. But when I did, I ended up saving $200 a month ($2400 a year) just on food! Still having trouble with paying off those pesky student loans, but i'm not in a position anymore where I have to defer them either. Cut back on the cable and cell phone, started shopping at thrift stores, and now my savings account is growing. By the time my daughter turns 18, she won't have to get student loans like I did!
I'm watching this in school for Business Math. I'm only 18 years old and haven't started saving any money yet. This guy's technique makes a lot of sense, but I need someone with experience to tell me, does it really work? And if not, then who would be a better financial expert?
@ryanmshepard92 Go read Peter Shciff's book on How the Economy grows and Why it doesn't. With this book as a foundation you shouldn't have a problem with investing. OH and read as many books as possible on these guys.......Marc Faber, Jim Rogers, and Nourel Roubini..Hope this helps.
@ryanmshepard92 you should read the step on super saving. there is a scenario regarding compound interest that is very eye opening especially since you are 18/19 years old. I've known people who follow Ramsey's plan and they weren't hurt like many others over the last few years. I would highly recommend it for the foundation of your personal finances. Best of luck.
Dave ramsey is nothing more than a get out of debt guru.... thats it!!!! he doesnt know jack crap about investing or how the economy really works... If you want someone to listen to that can really help. Peter Schiff
@commoditiesRforme495 I agree, but many people need to get out of debt. Listen to Dave Ramsey to build a foundation, and get back to ground level. Then go to Peter Schiff and Jim Rogers for advice on how to build on top of that.
1.Rich people live like they are poor, and poor people live like they are rich. I would not take financial cues from a bum because they are the worst with money. If they aren't spending money on an addiction, they are spending it on restaurant food.
2.Bankruptcy is theft; why would anyone promote it?
3.Saving money by being thrifty doesn't sound stupid to me, however your examples of being thrifty are absurd.
Your comments lack substance, which is evidenced by your many thumbs down.
I've taken the class and in 2 yrs, have paid off right at $40k of debt...it works only if you work the plan and want to get out of debt... I had stupid debt and debt that happened because of things beyond my control....Dave showed me the way and I will be out of debt in the next few months... taking this class will be the BEST thing you can ever do or recommend to someone who needs financial help..... decreasing debt will decrease lots of stress....
King you obviously know nothing of bankruptcy, otherwise you to would never recommend it to anyone ever! It is one of the hardest things I have ever seen anyone get through and it follows you for many many years! This is why he doesn't recommend it genius! When your broke busted and disgusted, you will understand why he is so important to so many people! Its a way to get a life we always dreamed of FREEDOM baby!!!!
Financial Peace University offers solutions that do not apply half of the USA. Problem is that Ramsey assumes employment is constant, and income is stable. NEITHER IS TRUE IN TODAY'S ECONOMIC DOWNTURN. If one cannot project income (true for the self employed, unemployed, or partially employed) then budgeting is meaningless. So is income growth, investments etc What Ramsey needs to focus on is helping people generate income and avoid exploitation! Young people today must reinvent the economy.
If you really looked into his program, you would see forms specifically for self employed or irregular income and also DOZENS of sections regarding unemployment and when times "get tough." If you had no debt and $10,000 in an emergency fund, a job loss would be a mere inconvenience while you spend a few months searching for a new (possibly better and higher paying) job.
Can you deliver pizza? They are always hiring... I just called.. There are always ways to generate income even if they suck... but you have to do what you can for your family.
For these people who have lost their job, are in the process of losing their, and still have debt, Dave answers their specific questions with on his show. If you can't get a job in that area you are in, MOVE. Short sell the house, sell that car that has a 15k note on it and get beater.
you have no idea what you're talking about. Dave has programs specifically designed for the self-employed. and to the unemployed, the first thing he'd recommend is: get a job, or three. it isn't that fat times of the late 90's anymore people.
I work a FT job and a PT job to make my ends meet and to have some left over. I failed to do this and relied on credit cards for the first ten years of my marriage, and we almost lost everything - with four kids. DUMB. take matters into your own hands. the government isn't going to do anything for you, at least, nothing that won't financially bury your children and grandchildren. get a job, then, get another. WORK. Dave's plan works, it takes some time, discipline, perseverance and patience.
I couldn't agree with you more. If it weren't for those people, America would be less than what it is now. The Mexicans are today what my ancestors, the Irish were 150 years ago.
