  • What I don't get is all the buzz about an LZ reunion tour it doesn't seem to include this musical genius.

  • John Paul Jones....Awesome.

  • What is that little guitar called?

  • @joshweldon27 Mandolin

  • can some guitar genious tell me what guitar tuning is Paul Gilbert using here?

  • @bastardgear8 I'm guessing it's an open D tuning (D-A-D-G#-A-D)

  • Paul Gilbert is a BEAST no question, but that dumbfounded look on his face says he just shared a very special moment with a very special individual and clearly he was humbled. Good for Paul for sharing his moment! This floors me every single time I hear it.

  • True story. My mate (I won't say who but if you're a Brit you'll know him) was rehearsing for a show at the Albert Hall recently. He got chatting to a bass player, who introduced himself as John, and asked him if he fancied lunch. In the restaurant, my mate asked "John" if he did anything else, to which he replied "I've got a band". When asked "what are they called and would I have heard of them", he said "Led Zeppelin".

  • Beeeeeeeeauuuuuutiful!

  • jonesy's a god

  • This tune just goes to show, that at the core of great vocalist songs, one so often finds beautiful music supporting them. Certainly, great vocals can often enhance great music, but if you strip the vocals from most great songs, you'll find great musical compositions laying the foundations for them - compositions that hold up beautifully, even when played only instrumentally. And, one day, when all the visions and memories of the LZ hype and mythology fade, this music will remain, it'll hold up!

  • somebody pls sing in ... i'm missing the song.. but the song is beautiful with or without words..

  • My god is Jon Paul Jones a better player than Jimmy?

  • This is the magic that is Led Zeppelin: they could at one fork in the road be a Hammer of the gods, and yet in another turn on the same road be a softly, blooming lily in the field.

  • Guys, Zeppelin was only Zeppelin with Jones, Bonham, Page, and Plant. When one was lost it wasn't Zeppelin anymore.

  • genius

  • A fantastic display of the musical genius of John Paul jones. He truly is a phenom...and was the backbone of led zep.

  • As I was listening I kept on anticipating Robert Plant's voice chiming in. Funny thing was after not hearing him I gained a new appreciation for the beauty of the music. Excuse me as I wipe my tears away.

  • I started playing a mandolin a month ago. This is what I think of when I think about how I want to play. So beautiful and soulfull. wow

  • jones and bonham might be the "center" for you.... but they wouldnt be zepplin without paige and plant

  • This clearly isnt about Paul Gilbert, who graciously lays back to allow JPJ to shine. It's really amazing performance by JPJ. I didnt realize he had those amazing mando chops. Wow..double listen.

  • JPJ was always the star in this song. Slightly disappointing to see Paul Gilbert strumming this in an open tuning, should be finger picked in double dropped D. Still sounded nice though.

  • @gorby9POD why do more work than you have to. not to mention this is not a song you would want to screw up and the fact that gilbert is just keeping the chord progression doesnt mean he needs to show off because im sure he could do it.

  • John Paul Jones is the Man !!!

  • 1969, Los Angeles, California. Me, nine years old playin' outside the house in the tree in the yard. Older brother, inside the house, unwraps his latest purchase and lays the licorice pizza, 33 1/3 RPM onto the turntable. "What the hell is that?" I almost fall out of the tree and am drawn into the house between the stereo speakers and into a new age of music. THAT was Zeppelin (1st album) and JPJ was comin through. 43 years later and yet to be hit as hard by music. Magical. Mystical. Religious.

  • This really is moving. Gilbert is my favorite shredder...he "gets" it. Meaning, he's still an awesome shredder nowadays, but he plays a lot of slower stuff and sings now too. He realizes life ain't all about shredding.

  • fuck it, im getting a mandolin.

  • @killingj0ke23 JPJ is the man on the mandolin. He has spent a few years playing.

  • yummy.

  • 30 monkeys learned to pick the red bottom.. congratulations!! I'll give you an extra banana if you learn to appreciate good music...

  • this was great!!! JPJ is great!!!!

  • It was one of the best moments of my life seeing this man live. Such a pleasure.

  • This is really nice. Wonder why anyone disliked this?

  • 30 people are deaf

  • Incrivel

  • is there a CD from this show?

  • 31 People aren't going to California :[

  • I fukin love John Paul Jones

  • Every Member of Led Zep was/is a Master of his craft...and FYI Paul Gilbert is the guitar bar...once again set higher.

  • I don't know who Paul Gilbert is, but the song keeps its magic. It's JPJ on the mandolin! Superb!

  • I am sorry but who is Paul Gilbert ???

  • @20sk Paul Gilbert is Ibanez's Godzilla... hmmm yeah..

i think that's the appropiate description..

  • One of the most underrated members of Zeppelin.

  • What no love for paul gilbert, he was flawless?!!

  • John Paul Jones is one of the best. Period. A master musician. They certainly don't make em like this anymore.....

  • the soul of Led Zeppelin

  • Is it just me, or does this video clearly show the other unsung musical genius in Led Zep!? Love JPJ.. thanks for posting

  • it sound`s so good! thanxxxxxx JPJ:)

  • just great

  • This is musicianship in its purest form.

  • why do you even care bout the dislikes...fck em... close your eyes and enjoy the music!

  • WOW,,, all i can say

  • 30 justin beiber fans

  • i think them idiots just jumped up to 30,...dont not everyone can understand MUSIC, they is ignorant motha Effas

  • Sadly, the number of souless deaf fucking idiots is rising

  • Man, I love music.

  • Expected Paul to start singing. Glad he didn't, not because he can't but because it doesn't need it. Awesome!

  • the thing that made led zeppelin so much better than the rest is the fact that even they're least known member (JPJ) is one of the most musically talented people ever and arguably the greatest bassist of all time.

  • @MrMATT2130 Correction sir. Inarguably.

  • That is just perfect.

  • I have really come to like this version more than the original. Everyone in Zeppelin and Gilbert are some amazing musicians.

  • classic.

  • woah, never seen such a tiny guitar :)

  • @hoebag7994 It's a mandolin.

  • Someone could invent a whole new musical instrument, and JPJ would learn how to play it within 20 minutes.

  • 26 people don't care if you want to make a retarded comment about their opinions.

  • please does anybody have the general idea of how to play like the tuning or the chords thanks :)

  • Such incredibly beautiful music. Thank you JPJ, JP, RP, and JB for making the world a better place with your talents and creativity.

  • awesomee:)

  • Guitar ....open G?

  • @spareaxe I think the guitar is DADGBD

  • Jones and bonham are the center of zeppelin, they are the core of the rhythm.

  • @rmdrummer87 Just like every other band that's ever existed.

  • i still feel it was wrong for Jimmy & Robert to tour during the 90's w/o as much as giving JPJ a call as to if he wanted to tour w/them..i mean like some one said here He is possibly the most talented player of the group and he is always in the shadows of the other 3. utter nonsense how they handled the whole situation. ihelove at the Hall of fame honours as JPJ gave it to both as a remark about the two of them forgetting his phone number.. go JPJ..

  • I just sat here mesmerized through the whole thing. I mean this is like biblical.

  • @jammintoast Yes! Im glad somebody can understand the reality of this. I can hardly breathe on the 10th time listening. A "meditation"

  • paul gilbert is no jimmy page. enough said

  • this is literally the perfect concert, the crowd is so large yet so quiet, not something you see everyday

  • Every member in Zeppelin was irreplaceable and each member realized this, that is why they broke up when Bonham (R.I.P) died.

  • @sarimkzuberi no bonham no zeppelin right?

  • Every member in Zeppelin was irreplaceable and each member realized this, that is why they broke up when Bonham (R.I.P) died.

  • Bravo!!! Thanks for posting this. It made my day.

  • John Paul Jones, quite possibly the most talented member of Led Zeppelin

  • What a remarkable mandolin player.

  • @280Ztaco when it comes to zeppelin... the four of them are about as good as they can get... no use in comparing apples to oranges...4 different instruments.. one fantastic sound

  • Leave Page alone.. He's made his mark on music, and most of you haven't. The reason JPJ is so underrated is because he didn't seek fame and fortune from music, although he could've easily earned it. He had his time in the spotlight with Zeppelin, and what glorious time it was, on keyboards. But he'll never be the string player that is the mighty Jimmy Page. And Page will never be the haunting keyboardist or groovy bassist that is JPJ. They're both on the same plain here...

  • I can honestly say without John Paul Jones Led Zeppelin would not have been the same. He influenced the band, Jimmy is great but John is more talented, he play's piano, organ, mandolin, bass, guitar, and more. Really underrated it's a shame.

  • Quietly, JPJ was one of the greatest pure musicians in rock history.

  • Checkout Paul G's work with Neil Morse - awesome stuff.

  • Sounds like a film soundtrack

  • one word, "awesome"

  • JPJ plays a very, very beautiful mandolin. What an incredible musician he is.

  • So mellow I could just shit

  • one of the coolest "covers" ive ever seen...guess its not really a cover if one of the original members is involved

  • how the hell is that possible?

  • great version

  • This is probably the most amazing thing i've seen in a while

  • One of the most important assets of Led Zeppelin is JPJ.

  • @801Current This guy was never about the money and always about the music.

  • @801Current Indeed my friend, indeed

  • @801Current One out of the four ;)

  • @801Current ...one? I would say without JPJ LZ may have been very good , but never the brilliant band they became! Jimmy Page is my everlasting hero, but I understand without JPJ I dont think they would have been so bleeding fantastic!

  • @801Current

Every single member of Led Zeppelin was so unique that they couldn't be replaced. That's why they had to break up when John Bonham died.

  • @801Current

    they are ALL BIG

  • Nice rendition!

  • sweet

  • 3:36

  • this guy is the most underrated human being on the planet.. too bad he wuz overshadowed by jimmy page

  • just wanna put it out there. anyone who dislikes this video can go @#$% themselves.. great job guys , alot of ppl think ( usually guitar plays) that it dont matter what you play or how good you are if ya dont play guitar then your not worth listening to... well for anyone who thinks that you know what you can do;) i myself play mandolin and its a bigtime unique sound but it can be sweet if played well. anyways back to my main purpose; great job dudes

  • @jamiemacie04 so true...what's sad is that some people, if they know who paul gilbert is, will think mr. big, then will think "to be with you" and then will pass this by (the song is good, but the "ballad" reputation didn't help mr. big in north america)...of course, if they pass this by, it's probably also because they don't have a clue that "going to california" and mr. john paul jones are important parts of led zeppelin...

  • JPJ is craz musical! What can't he play?

  • @GrandFunker my girlfriend

  • so, that's what Paul's ears look like ...

  • whats that thing called?...its not ukulele, or is it?...i want it so badly :D

  • @Groove1993 Mandolin i think.

  • @Groove1993 Its a mandolin good person. One of the most beautiful instruments there is.

  • @64ah yes, thx for reply, its really nice piece of art

  • @64ah I just realized I addressed you as "good person" .....sounds odd. looking back on it. But yes...mandolin is amazing. And not too hard to play really after some good practice.

  • Haven't watched this in a while...goosebumps. Jones is so talented.

  • JPJ is incredible - we love you man!

  • amazing is the word... zeppelin will live forever

  • 24 people are souless deaf fucking idiots ,

  • @knighty1964 lmfao

  • @knighty1964 YOU Rock Knighty!

  • @knighty1964 25, actually...

  • @knighty1964 its up to thirty now :(

  • @knighty1964 31 now

  • @knighty1964

    31 and more

  • @knighty1964 31 people

  • Good feeling again as it should. Missing the other guys, yes I'm. Great song, what else did you taught!

  • jonesy is a bad ass musician!

  • Does anyone know paul gilbert's guitar tab for this song? many thanks!

  • very very good job

  • beautifully played by a couple of fine players

  • JPJ is still one of the very best even after 4 decades. Young musicians take note. Make an effort and try to put something into your art. No mindless chord strumming, same note bass picking and drum machines followed by where's my check?

  • @Chocolatefreckles exactly how I feel about kid musicians today.

  • JPJ your the man!

  • suprised to see a young fresh paul gilbert with jpj and on an acoustic no less! he knows how lucky he his dont worry about that

  • this is better than pearl jam man

  • put tears in my eyes.. didnt even need vocals.. that was amazing!!

  • Impeccable!

  • FUCKIN BOSS

  • Very pretty and relaxing.

  • theres genius then theres a slight step above it . unreal

  • WHERE HAVE I BEEN?

    Such beauty.

  • Absolutely beautiful!

  • Paul Gilbert is awsome, and jpj

  • That was great!!!!

  • i miti non invecchiano mai

  • JPJ also did much, if not most, of the arranging of Led Zeppelin's music. He was sort of the musical director.

  • JPJ my man! led zeppelin is bomb! legends!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • jPJ is awsome, but its not quite the same.

  • I wish JPJ was more recognized. Every member of led zep is the shit, and they never get old for me. Im also really glad that the recordings are hi fi too

  • two very talented men and a beautiful folk song... What else ?

  • JPJ is the most underrated musician period!

  • ok im new to zepplin and im a mandolin player so im wondering which one is playing mandolin?

  • @CGiordano464 : John Paul Jones on mandolin, who was the bass player for the band...Look for "bron yn aur" also

  • @CGiordano464 you're joking right?

  • @h4zre hey im only 13! and i know a shit load about music just not led zepplin. i could name just about ever The Band song so I'm some dumby.

  • @CGiordano464 Dude, listen to going to california. You must have a shitty system and can only hear the vocals, and not the intricacies of the music

  • Beautiful!!!

  • Holy freaking cow! Beautiful!

  • Lame

  • Can anyone help me get this on my ipod?

  • @epicwin11 video2mp3....paste in the URL and voila

  • An lovely homage to the superb Joni Mitchell

  • We all know JPJ is underrated....

    So, is he underrated?

  • @Nawk111 Haha so true.

  • @Nawk111 I think many people just underrate how respected he REALLY is.

  • @Nawk111 Agreed

  • @Nawk111

    I am sure that he probably can play every instrument with strings on in the world (;

  • @Nawk111 he's sooo underrated. top musician

  • Awesome, really awesome. I love JPJ!

  • Can't say much but incredible!

  • amazing !

  • @dickmotorman do you know what kind, could you send me a link?

  • JPJ is incredible...he even makes that blow-hole Gilbert sound good

  • @carmichaelcom last time i checked gilbert is an unbelievibly talented player

  • @carmichaelcom lol i take it you havent even looked at one of gilberts songs/videos on youtube. (douchebag)

  • It was pretty easy to feel this

  • @xlbiofxe4 I meant the guitar that Paul Gilbert is playing. Does anybody know?
