Yall get some experance under your belt like 2 yrs and come over to work for Celadon Trucking Services for every 30,000 miles you drive you get 5 days paid vacation and 600.00 with a 1 cent increase every year with no pay cap plus have regular Home Time also Be prepared to go to Canada and get your passport too, We love exp drivers that like to Chain up and Ride for that money...
If you can get in a good running Truck and it's clean and the company doesnt treat you like shit then go for it. I would have loved to keep driving but what happened to me was personal, My first trainer was a pedophile and the second was a pill popping drug addict who shouldnt have been driving with his bad hip, so bad he floated all gears but the first as he could not ingage the clutch, he passed out at a rest area for 4 hours left me stuck sitting second seat looking at his fat ass sleep
You seem to have it together--good positive attitude. So how are things going for you? I am came across this video because I am contemplating Swift to get me started. Let me know how you are liking it and how working out the kinks went.
@tangoa7 i run 2600 miles in 3 1/2 days, i haul steel in the area mon-thurs and i'm off fri,sat and sun. i usually bring home 1200-1400 per week but i do alot of permit loads. i don't get paid by the mile so the miles really don't matter. Swift hauls steel out of the same mill and most of those guys don't have a clue what they are doing, i don't think they get any training for this shit. I asked one of the drivers what he was payed, it was sad. They are being worked for slave labor wages
ANy company that hires trainees are slave drivers.....You didnt even get training pay..how some food vouchers...see right there..that would tell any prospective hire what u are in for with Swift..and JB and Sheinder, CRST, U.S Freight...basically any company with more than 10,000 trucks in their fleet...
Told The fag lannny that i was going home for the couple days to tigard and Ill be back to take the load in on the 22nd, i went to take my dirty clothes out of my truck the next day and they were cleaning it out. I got fired for failure to deliver the load.
that wasnt supposed to be deliverd until wed and it was Monday, .
@BruBoyz very little money, it was like .26 cents permile, If i were you and any other driver that is starting there driving career out at Swift, Get your six in and start looking for another company to drive for. I was in a Cheap busted ass Volvo 670 that leaked and when i complained they gave me nothing but grief. I have since quit driving all together. I am in my second term of a Medical lab tech program and i go home every night,, love Stafford school loans
I drove for Swift for 3 months, THEY SUCK. well the Assistant Terminal Manager at The Troutdale Terminal Sucks Dick and takes it up the ass. I pulled a load up from Lathrop to Wilsonville, the load wasnt to be deliverd until Wed the 22nd. It was Sunday night when i pulled in. Customer told me no, its a high value load and we have a special crew that will unload and we cant take it early . So I took the load to the terminal, secured it in the proper space, double locked the trailer.
Cont- if u are going to be with swift, u have to have a strong supporting family behind u because u will be away for awhile, its fun but money talks bs walks a thousand miles. So its really up to how u handle what swift throws at you
No no longer with the company, ran as a owner operator team, came off the road because my teammate was having a baby and I decided to go local with another company, also I couldn't get my glasses at the time right away because of insurance, but I learned a lot from swift they are the best company to go with as far as getting started in the trucking business, its up to u to decide how u want to go about things for the best or worst, being an owner operator is ok justgood for single folks
Swift is like any other company, you will hear good and bad. I know many drivers that love swift and have been there years, i also know people that are unhappy there. A good company is one thats good for you, and no company is good for everyone. One big thing that determines happiness at any company is your attitude, as i have noticed most people that complain have bad attitudes and are not happy anywhere.
I read recently that on Long Island, NY, a semi-truck accidentally made it onto the westbound lanes of the Northern State Parkway near Rt. 135 and got clothes-lined at the low, arched bridges on the NSP. Lots of signs saying "No Trucks, maximum clearance 7'-11" and the like. What I'd like to know is if it was a Swift truck. Anyone heard anything out there?
I have been a driver since 1992. I hate to see these crummy companies screw the newbies so bad I posted this advice. I have haz-mat with TWIC and Canadian qualified and a very good record with about 2 million miles. Ask SWIFT recruiters what their driver turnover rate is and the will not tell you its 300 to 500 %. They treat the newbies VERY VERY BAD !!! P.S. they PAY the driving schools to recruit the newbies that dont know any better. Stay AWAY...................
@meadowlarkable what you just posted is entirely correct. I spent a little over two years of my life with Swift figuring all that out. Best thing they ever did was turn me down for rehire LOL. Driver retainment is not their motto when the money goes towards traning newbies so they can be paid as cheap as possible. Also people for the record, my CDL cost me $1,200 through Swift back in '02. Anyone paying 3x that much is getting ripped off.
I just got accepted by Swift. Im hoping to start next week and I will make the best of it by driving safe . Ill be going to orientation in Decatur,Ga next week. Wish me luck.
