My wife's stepfather fought in WW2: wounded twice, captured twice (by the Russians), finally surrendered to the Americans.....drafted at 16....(.did he even have a choice?) Thanks for the chance to honor this fallen hero
One must remember the men and women in military serve as their commanders order them to. Very few want to be in harms way, but that is done by politicians and dictators then and now. To give RIP to an enemy is not treason, it shows respect for they gave their lives just as our men and women do to protect their nation.
War is the worst variant of the Chess....all fugures are alive people. I would never participate in such a game, because unlike Chess, where the players are Grosmasters...... the war players are morons.
The Germans had no impending reason to wage WWII, look how strong they would have been if their resources were just used within Germany and they could have still had a superiour military,Its governments, politicians and dictatorila leaders in most cases, not the people that cause the wars...The civilians are the victoms...
Hitler was a frustrated canvas painter and wannabe architect, who by chance ended up in charge of brilliant strategy minds like Vun Ründstedt and Von Mannstein, who foresaw years before the nonsense of opening a war in 2 fronts, or pulling USA into the fight. Unfortunately, politics is ruled by emotions and charisma, unlike military strategy and Engineering, which is ruled by logic and common sense. We all know the rest of the story.

After the war, Hartman, 10 years imprisoned in Siberia. Cruel fate of the soldier ... After his return from captivity, received a salary for 10 years and commanded a fighter squadron Richthofen . I always think of him as the speculators ...of course it was a unique pilot.
Germans considered a normal loss of one of his aircraft and the loss of four Soviet aircraft or 3 British aircraft at the beginning of the war. Marseille before his death, 150 British planes shot down. Hartman 348 Soviet and four American. Kozhedub Soviet ace - 60 German. Consider yourself
German fighter pilots applied the principle of free hunting-Russian steel shelves are created only at the end of the war but even they do with such an approach had many victories
Germans had such a practice - if it throws a slave master, as the senior recorded his victory, too. It's happened - they received money for it. Also Russian for example believed that the main task Force - support for ground troops and pilots were prepared, respectively.
best Luftwaffe pilots Hartman believed Joachim Marseille, who lost his life in Africa. I think the German pilots with cool technology found in the air more goals than pilots of other states in this phenomenon is such a huge amount of their pobed.I not only.
I am a 67 year old English man and each year i visit the commomwealth war grave cemetary about six miles away from where i live to give thanks. A few yards down the road is a German war grave cemetary, i go there as well. I go to honour the dead not who they were recieving their orders from then. We must learn from the past and put old enemy feelings behind us or we will not achieve the better life we all yearn for.
As far as i know, in the USAF, you are called ace when you achieve your fifth victory. Herr Erich Hartman have 352, 352!!! victories. Spades and diamonds for the ritterkreutz were created specially for him. With no doubt, the best pilot ever!!!
A soldier is just a pawn on a chess board, they follow orders and if they disobeyed them they would be shot, just like the russians were in WW2 if they retreated from a battle..
War does not prove who is right, only who is left
@39rc6cf Your ignorance is stunning. It might be a waste of my time, but I will explain why.
Just as not every American was a capitalist, every Russian a communist, not every German soldier was a Nazi. They have fought and died for their country in the same way as everyone else back then. Most of them not because they wanted, but because they had to - at the end of the war the mandatory draft age was 16, iirc. Their courage and battle prowess is unquestionable. Just as the Allied soldiers one.
@HavelP , hey Clarabell, I shit on the memory of anyone and everyone who fought on behalf of Nazi Germany because by having done so, they facilitated the idea of Adolf Hitler becoming ruler of our world and that man was the biggest sonovabitch to ever come down a birth canal. So take your liberal ideas and go try them on others because to me, you're a bullshit artist. Germans, from 1932-1945, were contemptible murderers whether military or civilian. They put the Nazis into power in July of '32.
All hail our German cousins who gave their lives for their Fatherland. All hail our Slavic cousins who gave their lives for Mother Russia. All hail the British who gave their lives for the King & mother country.May there never be another war between the European peoples!!
Very well done. Makes your eyes well up. Hats off to both sides, not for their politics, but for their steadfastness and bravery. Our air crews could go home
after 25 bomber missions and 100 fighter missions, but Luftwaffe pilots and
crews were in it for the entire duration of the war. Fomer USAF vet.
There is no "too late" to honor fallen heroes, no matter which side of the fight they were on. There is, however, "not soon enough." It is not treason to honor the courage of a fallen warrior, even if they were the enemy.
...I have a question for whomever can answer it: What was the name of the Piece of Music (& or) the Composer which was used for the original Discovery Channel Version of: Wings of the Luftwaffe...??? Thanks...!!
I was surprised to see that this is actually a computer game. I thought perhaps somebody who specializes in computer graphisc put this together as a little project. We had Ataria and Intellivision when we were kids. When Nintendo came out in the 80s we thought that was the most incredible creation since chicken slippers.
The pilots should have scrambled the ME 262s instead of the 190s, then the outcome of the video would have been different. Put old Gunther Rall and Reich Hartmann up there and booya, bye bye Ruskis.
The guy in the Kubel jumpe into the Ju 52 parked over there and meets up with Adolf Galland and Peron in Argentina. Hmmm, in that case it guess the soundtrack should be "don't cry for me Argentina"

Oldfart is correct. In WW1 allies and enemies alike returned bodies or gave funerals with honors to fallen enemy pilots on many occasions.
