I think otherwise, it sounds better because its so cluttered. Actually its not as cluttered as you think it is. Without the BGM, the video would actually sound very empty since its following the rhythm and needs it to fill the gaps in the sound.

5 months old, but seeing as there hasn't been a response yet, to answer your quesiton, the anime is taken from To aru no majitsu no index. Spin off includes to aru kagaku no railgun, and the sequel to the main-branch is airing this season.
