  • Do you really think that these horses along 97 are "wild?" As in the romantic notions of "wild horses?" They're not. They're "soft-herded" in that they don't have much human contact, but there are quite a few of them around there.

  • @proffromgview Ok, so if they are not wild horses....explain to me what they are?!?!?!?

  • @Blondhorsecrazy Sure...as you can probably tell I am from the valley and have traveled up into and around the Satus a lot. (both along 97 and further east). It all depends on what you mean by "wild." These are not the same as those who run free with no fences and contact ever with people (as in E. Oregon, Nevada, etc). But they are definitely "wilder" than your everyday garden mares in the pasture. They descend frm a few wilder horses from years back, and they run between 97 and Plank rd

  • @Blondhorsecrazy A wild horse is an untamed horse that has little to no contact with human life. Explain your meaning of "soft herded" (since being raised with horses ALL my life, i have yet of heard that term).

  • @Blondhorsecrazy I'm guessing you're not from the area. But if you take any number of roads onto the Rez east of there, you can see them running across the roads. Same bunches. They have far more "contact" than those I mentioned, and they are moved/herded from one section to the other at irregular intervals. So compared to your mare in the pasture, they're "wild," but compared to those in SE Oregon, etc., they're not.
