  • i actually watched this thinking that I would see rab c nesbitt.. what a good mistake... left england a long time now and this just reminds of how great british comedy really is... i love it... you and you tube just rock... Will find rab c nesbitt at a later date. thx for uploading

  • i always cry at this :(

  • TROLOLOLOLLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLLOLOLOL

  • Why was nana's last words Trevor McDonald?? Did she secretly fancy him???

  • this is just so touching makes me cry everytime i see it .

  • i cryed

  • OK thats just about the saddest thing i've ever watched!

  • Ffitting send off, but I wish they just made another series out of this. They condensed too much into one episode. I suppose the cast was all busy with other projects by then.

  • when Jim started crying I thought he was laughing for a second?!

  • Every great comedy has tears to go with the laughs. Only Fools, Bread, One Foot In The Grave, to name but a few. They gave Nana the send off she wanted and deserved.

  • @olzoid1 this show is meant to be about life. Life isn't always funny and even at its saddest this show makes people smile. If you can't pick the humour out of life, or even just this episode of a tv programme, to get through the tough times then I feel for you.

  • Brilliantly done, typical of the quality this show presented, it made me laugh so often and in this episode it finally made me cry.

  • I still can't watch this without wailing my head off when Nana dies! I think that ''Scarlett Ribbons'' by Sinead O' Connor was a fitting song, but made it even more sadder in my opinion. Get the hankies out before watching this!

  • Not gonna lie. I tear up at this part. And I'm 22. And a man.

For some reason, the part that gets me is where Jim starts crying over her death.

I think it shows that he actually did have an ounce of care for her and was upset that they couldn't make amends before she passed.

Did any of that make sense or am I just talking shit?

  • @TCWNN Mate everything you just said is exactly how I feel when I watch this part of the episode Great minds thing alike

  • @MrQuackingPlums I suppose they do. I forgot I even posted that comment...

  • @TCWNN I think Jim and Norma had a love hate relationship...I always end up in tears, even at the start of this episode, the whole thing is just so full of emotion..I love the ending, RIP NORMA !! =)

  • Caroline Aherne is a really good actress when it comes to crying!

  • Ok, this isnt funny...UNLIKE WHAT THIS PROGRAM IS MEANT TO BE LIKE

  • made me cry like a baby, tv at its best.

  • its just a transformation, life would be pointless if in death we never still in a different way live on,i was devastated when my nanna died, but when you look at life and death deeply, you come to realise that its a perfect natural cycle of the way everything is,and it is what it is,so just be happy that a loved one has made the transformation and moved on ;)

we are born,we live,we die,we become one again with oneness and the procedure probably repeats itself.

  • I'm a 24 yr lad and when Jim was in the hospital alone with Nana it reduced me to tears

  • This is the saddest episode :'( I love my grandma<3

  • i have a dvd of episodes of the royle family and this is one of them i keep watching and watching it and I always cry :'(

  • Britain has produced some amazing and enduring TV comedy, but I still can't think of anything that beats The Queen of Sheba.

  • @toonz666 the queen of sheba was just an episode.. not the actual tv show.

  • i cry everytime i see this :'(

  • Ive watched this about 20 times and cryed every time

  • Aww! I've got a lump the size of a golf ball in my throat...Seeing Dave and Jim crying and then the symbolism of baby Norma, new life and then death, cycle of life renewing itself...I agree with the comments about they haven't made a decent special since, The New Sofa and The Golden Egg Cup were rubbish...Hope this years Christmas special is good.

  • I was a fan of the show from the very start, and it took a while for me to persuade people to watch it, until about season 3 when its popularity really took off. This episode is definitely one of their best ever. It was tearful and filmed so well. When you see Jim finally getting along with Norma and then in tears over her death, Great special and it should have ended there. Since then the specials have been rubbish.

  • what is the song they sing at the end?

  • "She was alive right up to the end, wasn't she barbara"

To the cast, crew and script writers.

    Outstanding work!

  • awww Nanna :'( Will Miss Her :( x

  • "She was alive right up to the end" Bless Mary's heart :)

  • Does ne 1 know what is the name of the song when everyone is in the hospital and who sung it.. thx would appreciate if anyone can help with this...

  • @bigboi2411 its Scarlet Ribbons and this version is by Sinead O'Connor

  • @bigboi2411 Scarlett Ribbons by Sinead O'Connor

  • now my keyboards all awash- I'm cryin' buckets here :(

  • Can any one else remember when everyone is going to see nana individually,is nanas voice over dubbed with her saying stuff about each of them....or is it just me?

  • @DavieDCU that is on the outtakes part of the DVD i have seen it, or the Special Features part of the DVD. I like the VO version better too

  • oh god, cried my eyes out! what an episode

  • I've never really watched The Royle Family before and started watching from scratch only last week from the very first episode. I have watched them all in a row up til this one and i can honestly say i have never cried so much at a fictional character's death as much as i have Nana's. You really grow to love the characters and really feel them to be real. I know it's silly really but... R.I.P Nana x

  • THIS WAS AWESOME, THANK YOU SO MUCH! :)

  • I'm with Cheryl. I just couldn't give up pork pies! More jelly the better.

  • This was just so beautifully done.

    Thanks for uploading.

  • i have to admit, i shed many a tear at this programme, but i think it's the genius in the script that at such a sad moment they can put in something as funny as Norma's last words being 'Trevor McDonald' and Mary saying it was a fitting tribute to the man, never has there been such a swift switch from tears to laughter ...

  • what is the song or singer through the scene before she dies?

  • @DemonioRojoATL sinead o connor 'scarlet ribbon'

  • I watched this when it first aired - I was OK till I saw Jim crying in the hospital ;-(

  • @gscobie6 yeah that was the part that got me too

  • I find in Norma so much of my old dear Nan. I am not ashamed of the tears in my eyes.

  • Dont people who moan about this episode understand that comedy and tragedy are inextricably linked. We love and laugh with these characters because they are real and we identify with what they go through; that makes the comedy all the more hilarious and the tragedy all the more touching.

  • This reminds me of my Papa who died a few years ago & watching this makes me cry. It's when Dave & Jim Cry that gets me.

  • @Calfaeairdrie

    Yeh im the same,

when i saw Dave & Jim cry like that it got me...and made me cry worse.

  • Thank you tvjumkie that was so beautiful.... cried the whole way through.. thanks for all your postings.. xx

  • Nana was pure gold. I know this show is a "comedy", but this is about a family. They have heartbreak and pain and joy and love. Episodes like this show how truly important family is. No matter what.

  • greatest piece of television ever?

  • Nice one Joe!

  • Wow, this part is heartbreaking. I remember being in tears when I first watched it on TV. Nanna was brilliant.

  • "trevor macdonald"

"oh barbara, what a fitting tribute to the man."

genius writing, mary is so underrated

  • That rendition of I want a girl just like the girl that married dear old dad is great, anyone know where I can find a version like that?

  • @Acexwanderer probably George Formby would be your best bet x

  • does anyone know the name of the song where nana was in hospital

  • @mrbeanbob Open your eyes you idiot, that was television genius!

  • This is the greatest thing on TV i've ever seen. Funny, sad, poignant , truthful, emotional, acted superbly, written brilliantly. Any budding script writer should look at this and take inspiration and I really don't think it will be beaten for many many years

  • Television genius. Incredibly funny to an ultimate breakdown emotionally in the space of 75 seconds

  • Wonderful.best episode ever.I remember watching this with my family at christmas when i was 12,Nana was probs the one who made me laugh most.it was impossible to keep my tears in,everytime i watch it now i always cry no matter how many times i watch it.<3 fantastic stuff!

  • This was the real last episode. Just like Delboy becoming a millionaire was Only Fools' last episode. Everything runs its course. What a wonderfully touching finale to 3 great comedy series.

  • @shakercoola they have christmas special's and one off's so it isnt really the end..

  • @LordWedgewood This wasn't supposed to be the funniest episode ever you idiot! It's supposed to be sad! "Oh, nanna's just died!" "Nanna my arse!" Hahaha >_>

  • @sipodge oh i'm terribly sorry. Here's me thinking that the Royle Family was supposed to be a COMEDY show! I didn't realise that they'd made a psychological drama just to please the cry babies who like their fair share of sappy touching moments in COMEDY shows. With Liz smith wanting to leave the show, they could've had her piss off to an old people's home or something, with Jim doing a victory dance to celebrate. Not the turgid episode they made instead!! Talk about a missed opportunity!

  • @LordWedgewood Norma didn't want to go to an old peoples home so jim and barbara didn't send her. This ep was fantastic, comedy and drama the perfect end

  • @LordWedgewood Oh and you need to get some compassion! if you dont see the point of this episode and you dont feel just a little bit sad or shred a tear....then your obviously not human!

  • @BradleyCjtHD Sigh! No I'm not human, I'm a robot who's come 1000 years from the future to save British comedy by eliminating all seriousness from COMEDY shows. I could put up with it if it's only in small doses like Only fools and horses and One foot in the grave, but not 75% of an episode like Queen of Sheba. Bring back shows like Bottom!

  • I cried bucketloads when I watched this. This is such a sad episode!

  • "No bugger will eat it....except Cheryl" LOL

  • "she was alive right up to the end"

  • Cheryl at 06:32 with the hula hoops on her fingers, haha.

The most emotional part in this episode for me was the two young boys with Nana there. Its those times that mean the most. I love the Royle Family

  • so sad.

  • can remember shedding a tear when this was first broadcast, nana was a class act fairplay
