Hello I have music that I need to be transcribed would you be able to help me I swear this is music you have never heard of before it;s traditional mexican music
I have my own music inside my computer, itunes etc.. but now I need to make sheet music for musicians who are going to play these songs. I need to transcribe each instrument from these songs in notes ( sheet music.) Which of the software do you recommend me? Because Its really difficult and slow to do that by myself. I need a good software!
@creepyicebox He actually as perfect pitch, which means he can identify what note it is even if he had no training. However, what you said is also true. :)
@AndromedaAiken The concept of perfect pith varies, there are studies that say that the perfect pitch can be obtained by training, sure there is the ones born with it, but, maybe the case of ben chan is that he have like 20 years of playing...
per say, u can get it by hard work and merit, not just miracle
@estefano18 Yes it varies but I think the general view is that either you have it or you don't. If it's trained in you, it's perfect relative pitch or something like that...I don't know hahah.
Uhh I think he is just showing you how he transcribes music so you can maybe do what he does so it helps you but it is true you cant do it just by watching this vid
it takes years of playing an instrument i think piano helps the most
oh i forgot to mention.. no offense ben chan but this video is almost useless, unless you are technology illiterate and you can play music by ear. it would be a lot more useful if you posted a video on how to teach people to play by ear first. AND if you already did i apologize
I don't know why you got thumbed down three times, but I think what you wrote makes sense. He doesn't go into much detail on how the program works. He gave a brief explanation on how he's able to play music by ear, but that's about it. So based on his advice, he's saying: STUDY AND PLAY MUSIC FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND YOU'LL BE ABLE DO IT TOO! lol
That's so cool. I also transcribe VG music by "feeling it on my fingers." I listen to music, think of how to play it on my viola, then write out the notes from there.
Thank you Ben for demonstrating the Sibelius program for us! I have always transcribed my music by hand. It is tedious and time consuming, especially when I have to play it back on the violin or piano.
It is even more difficult whenever I transcribe ensemble music such as string quartets. Now I know of this great program, Sibelius, which I can use myself to make my music transcribing work much easier.
There's a student version (grades 3-12) for $99, which is a LOT cheaper than the normal $400. It doesn't have as much stuff in it, but I doubt you'd need more than that. I'd suggest asking for it as a Christmas present from relatives! Look for the student version of Sibelius online.
I can never figure out what a note actually is, but i can always find it on my violin, and then i determine what that note is. and it really does help to have played an instrument for many years.
I'm still learning from Smart music on listening to notes T.T...It's really hard to listen and pinpoint each note. My orchestra teacher in middle school says it's hard too.
wat version of selibus do u use??

how r u recording the sound on the computer with ur cam software everything i try doesnt record the sounds my computer makes

i agree with MrRainClouds..
Ben Chan's been studying and playing violin for years so his own ears are already trained to determine the right note..
my violin professor also says the same thing.. a person's gotta have years of hands-on experience before he can transcribe a piece..

why don't you make sheet music available in sibelius format?
zkkaik 2 years ago
It's to protect the music from being altered and redistributed under another name.

don't know if you know this or not Ben, but in Sibelius, you can raise the volume of the voices in the mixer window.

yes, just having it is a great advantage though

Also, download a copy of Noteworthy Player. You can extract notes from MIDI files!
It really helped me when getting notes from video game music.

Within the past year I've been able to discern pitches by sort of feeling where on the violin I would put my finger. Is that what it's like for you?
