  • wat version of selibus do u use??

  • Abbo me Please :D

  • Hello I have music that I need to be transcribed would you be able to help me I swear this is music you have never heard of before it;s traditional mexican music

  • wow i would love to be able to transcribe like you i can oly transcribe percussion and not aything with pitch

  • what i would give to have perfect pitch!!!

  • how r u recording the sound on the computer with ur cam software everything i try doesnt record the sounds my computer makes

  • i agree with MrRainClouds..

Ben Chan's been studying and playing violin for years so his own ears are already trained to determine the right note..

my violin professor also says the same thing.. a person's gotta have years of hands-on experience before he can transcribe a piece..

  • @creepyicebox He actually as perfect pitch, which means he can identify what note it is even if he had no training. However, what you said is also true. :)

  • @AndromedaAiken The concept of perfect pith varies, there are studies that say that the perfect pitch can be obtained by training, sure there is the ones born with it, but, maybe the case of ben chan is that he have like 20 years of playing...

per say, u can get it by hard work and merit, not just miracle

  • @estefano18 Yes it varies but I think the general view is that either you have it or you don't. If it's trained in you, it's perfect relative pitch or something like that...I don't know hahah.

  • Uhh I think he is just showing you how he transcribes music so you can maybe do what he does so it helps you but it is true you cant do it just by watching this vid

it takes years of playing an instrument i think piano helps the most

  • oh i forgot to mention.. no offense ben chan but this video is almost useless, unless you are technology illiterate and you can play music by ear. it would be a lot more useful if you posted a video on how to teach people to play by ear first. AND if you already did i apologize

  • I don't know why you got thumbed down three times, but I think what you wrote makes sense. He doesn't go into much detail on how the program works. He gave a brief explanation on how he's able to play music by ear, but that's about it. So based on his advice, he's saying: STUDY AND PLAY MUSIC FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND YOU'LL BE ABLE DO IT TOO! lol

  • nope.

  • You think what you wrote doesn't make sense?

  • nope.

  • I agree with what other people say now. There's not much substance to you.

  • nope

  • Playing by ear is not something you can learn in one video on youtube...

  • i wish he could transcribe

linking park: numb (violin remix) I was about to quit on violin but that song changed my mind.

too bad it only has 27

I guess people haven't heard of it.

  • Cause we all know SilviaGunner has the best collection of final fantasy music on youtube :)

Too bad you didn't play a full video of this for us. Dx that'd be great.

  • where can I download this program?

  • That's so cool. I also transcribe VG music by "feeling it on my fingers." I listen to music, think of how to play it on my viola, then write out the notes from there.

  • why don't you make sheet music available in sibelius format?

  • It's to protect the music from being altered and redistributed under another name.

  • Thank you Ben for demonstrating the Sibelius program for us! I have always transcribed my music by hand. It is tedious and time consuming, especially when I have to play it back on the violin or piano.

It is even more difficult whenever I transcribe ensemble music such as string quartets. Now I know of this great program, Sibelius, which I can use myself to make my music transcribing work much easier.

  • i have perfect pitch too! except i play cello, not violin.

  • What program do you like more, Sibelius or Finale?

  • don't know if you know this or not Ben, but in Sibelius, you can raise the volume of the voices in the mixer window.

  • what is this programmed called?

  • Sibelius

  • You are awesome!

  • I KEEP PRESSING SQUARE!

  • Can a person with no perfect pitch become a professional violinist?

  • yes, just having it is a great advantage though

  • Also, download a copy of Noteworthy Player. You can extract notes from MIDI files!

It really helped me when getting notes from video game music.

  • hey Ben how much does Sibelius cost?

  • There's a student version (grades 3-12) for $99, which is a LOT cheaper than the normal $400. It doesn't have as much stuff in it, but I doubt you'd need more than that. I'd suggest asking for it as a Christmas present from relatives! Look for the student version of Sibelius online.

  • I can never figure out what a note actually is, but i can always find it on my violin, and then i determine what that note is. and it really does help to have played an instrument for many years.

  • Within the past year I've been able to discern pitches by sort of feeling where on the violin I would put my finger. Is that what it's like for you?

  • I'm still learning from Smart music on listening to notes T.T...It's really hard to listen and pinpoint each note. My orchestra teacher in middle school says it's hard too.

  • You actually have perfect pitch?! Wow O.o

  • ur so smart ben!

u prove that hard work can make u a genius lol

  • 2nd

  • what program do you use? I really want to start making my own sheet music. is it free? Please?!?!

  • Its expensive and its online

  • Try using Finale Notepad - there's a free version.

  • theres another program i use that is really god its called finale notepad

its got a 30 day free trial after that i cant remeber but im sure its 20 dollars or less if you want to purchase its really nice

  • its actually only 10 bucks =D, I got it after my triial expired and I didnt want to lose my sheets

  • finale notepad doesnt expire. its if you use a trial of finale songwriter or some other finale product that it expires.

  • well the reader program doesnt but the writer program does. when he asked he was asking about writing programs so i just said that o well
