@turbobenx, what? It doesn't sound anything like Cantonese! For one thing "v" and many exotic vowels don't exist in Cantonese. She does switch to Cantonese around 2:05.
@angryjalapeno r u ignorant or wat? You're getting too specific. All i said was it sounded almost like CANTo. I never said it's the exact same, did i? The sense of hearing gives u million different of variety of sounds. Not just your ignorant comment of "For one thing "v" and many exotic vowels don't exist in Cantonese".
anyway in the shanghai grand people rarely fight by hand, they commonly stand in two orderly formations and shoot each other, typical shanghai marfia tactic...
its ok iguess... lol the viet vers is good the cantonese part here could be worked on a bit. but usually vietnamese ppl can speak cantonese pretty good imo =P lol
All spoken languages sounds good when sung. It is a cultural construct. Audiences with similar background will appreciate the singers singing in their language. Just enjoy the music and the diverse vocals of the cathcy "Shanghai Bund." Great piece of song. Personally, the only comment is that the pronunciation in Cantonese can be improved. Otherwise, it is well sung.
It's usually best to leave things the way they are, especially this song. It was originally written in Cantonese, so let it live in that world. Don't translate it into other languages because it sounds STUPID, especially this specific version made my Asia Entertainment. The singing (both VNmese and Cantonese), the choreography, the stage setting is simply unartistic. Please, please: stop ruining anymore great classics! HORRIBLE SINGING! YUCK! YUCK!
To harbin, its just like saying mongolians are similar to northern chinese. This is a useless argument. Take note many vietnamese have chinese ancestry. And there are many chiense in vietnam

shoot...It looks like vietnamese stole or remade every good Chinese songs, no matter in Mandarin or in Cantonese....Did they pay the license fee to Chinese music companies?
As for "all the shooting & dead people," it's part of Vn artistic performance style onstage to dress up in relevant costumes when performing a theme song from a movie, TVB series, or Vn opera. Just curious, is this video from 1 of the Paris by Night shows? Again, thanks for sharing such a beautiful video!
Regardless of Ethnic Prejudice, I wish we can all simply appreciate musical art as is, in any language. Modern Chinese music has a received influences from English & Japanese music, especially in translating the lyrics into Chinese, such as Chinese version of My Heart Will Go On. Ancient Vn was written as Chinese words, especially in Chinese calligraphy. It's just pronounced differently & syntax is also slightly different. There are Vn elders who can read & write Chinese & write calligraphy.
What a surprise to be able to see this video! I've heard Nhu Quynh's version on CD, but what is this singer's name? She did a pretty good job singing the Canto part. In Vn language, there is no exact "ch" sound as in Chinese, as the Vn "ch" sound is actually a "j" sound. So she pronounced the word "like" (似) as a "ji" instead of "chee." The closest Vn equivalence of the Chinese "ch" sound is actually spelled w/ an "x."
The original is in Cantonese sung by Frances Yip. This lady sang the Vietnamese version in the beginning, then she sang the Cantonese version at the end. Some people don't even know that there's a Mandarin version of this song.
