  • This industry is just a better built cell block a long ways from the shell tops and the bells that L rocked....Hip hop went from selling crack to smoking it... Yep Mos just described what most people think of rap music today.. in 98. 12 years ago.

  • Fear not of men because men must die

  • It's Arabic. From the Qu'ran. "Bismillah ir-rahman ir-rahim." Meaning "In the name of God, most gracious, most compassionate."

  • This is seriously a good album. I wish it only came out a bit later in this muck of hip hop. True lyrics should be broadcasting instead of lame stuff they qualify as pop hip hop.

  • wtf is that

  • what did he say in the beggining

  • allahu akbar, i knew mos def is a muslim!

  • This song is an anthem. All true heads know of this here.

  • tru tru

  • He's my favorite individual rapper. He is the illest. Lyrically and musically.

  • The most underrated rapper ever IMO. His beats are hot and the lyrics grab you, the dude can speak!!

  • "HUNH!!!"

  • @lynhsc

    ........ Huuuuh!!

  • man havent heard this album since like 2000 i forgot how sick it was

  • hip-hop is the best song on the album.

"hip-hop is; prosecution/evidence, an out of court settlement, ad-space for liquor"

  • my favorite verse, the beat has a sick drop in it right after

also: "we went from pickin cotton, to chain gang line shoppin, to beat boppin, to hip hoppin..."

    so awesome, great hip hop

  • "Hip Hop" is probably my 3rd favorite track on the album. The beat is powerful but laid back at the same time. Mos Def is most definitely one of the best in the game.

  • jus wonderin what's your top 2?

    mad love for mos def

  • My top two are "Mathematics" and "Ms. Fat Booty". The things Mos talks about in the song REALLY make you think. Ms. Fat Booty is just hilarious.

  • thats cool

  • i love how that david axelrod sample is flipped on Hip Hop. dopeness

  • the world is overrun with the wealthy and the wicked....

  • Mos Def is one of the greatest hip hop artists' out in our generation, I just wish he would get the recognition he truly deserves, this is my favorite song by Mos btw 8-)

"Speech is my hammer bang the world in the shape now let it fall"

  • it pisses me off how artists like Soulja Toy can get 1 million hits in like 1 day... but True Hip-Hop artists like Mos Def barely even come close to that... Its BLASPHEMY... Bring back True Hip hop... im tired of this rap crap.. This shit is RAW as HELL.

  • best thing to do is not worry bout it the music you dont like, and just keep da real emcees flowing out ya speakers.

hip hop dont need to be commercially successful to be great, it always will be no matter wat.

  • HIP-HOP is one of my favourite tunes ever. Be on my faves mix always.

"that was for you and Brooklyn too!"

  • agreed.

    Hip-hop is awesome.

  • Most underrated MC ever, he's definately top 10

  • true that!

    mos def is the shit.

there are alot of people like him who arent recognized for their talents and are overshadowed by mainstream artists (lil wayne) who claim to be "the best". lol.

  • I was just watching a vid of Talib talking about under estimated emmce like Jean Grea, Mos Def, Andre 3000....etc.The average person like to spoon feed what they should like not what really feels good to them.

If its popular then they want to buy it, plus ppl like catching stuff, intense lyrics make ppl have to think, whatever. Thats why i know Hip hop is not dead cuz there r ppl that still talk about the real shit. From Artist to Audience, I used to play this every morning on repeat b4work

  • Peace to the real heads, word is bond. Keep this shit going, peace!!
