As I somewhat agree with you on the splitting of the engine case, I've never experienced this first hand. I've have a finned KX420 go from straight pinned to about 45 degree water with no damage. How do you know the owner of that particular truck didn't waterproof it? I know many tutorials and many part sites to get waterproof grade parts.

Well nitro boats have a haul that protects water from getting inside the boat and water prof electronics or just some little sealed place,And if your going to do this get a snorkel
I thought about a snorkel, but its hard to get a piece of rubber that will stay the way you want it without it crimping the engines air supply. Sucks...Thats why the trucks that have tires big enough to float were the only ones that did this. I didnt do it with mine cause I was using stock T-maxx tires.

No the servo was a water resistant one. Really all it had was some silicone around the case joints and the wires. But the exhaust was alright, yea it was choked a little bit but it didnt stall on him. I do have vids of a truck with a stack if you wanna check em out.

Sorry man, but you're a fuckin' moron to do that with your truck. the servos must have gone bad after that, and obviously water got into the tranny and the diff housings too... Not to mention that the engine was surrounded by water which is a LOT colder than the inner side of the engine.
First thing you should check your glow plug. Just replacing it would be easiest. Also make sure that your one way bearing is ok. If its slipping and not turning the engine over then that will cause starting problems too. If all else is failing set your needles back to factory settings with a fresh glow plug, and work it from there. Has the truck been sitting for a while by any chance?
