I think Light screwed himself over by killing the FBI agents, that started the suspicion. If he let them live, he'd never be suspected again...but still this is one of those anime's or manga's that should be used in English class. So much more useful and filled with real life themes then the other shit.
Light allowed his idea to grow and he began to manipulate people as Kira. So, his idea grew and he gain power little by little. He eventually capitalize and Near just drew the line to connect the dots.
You know, you have to admit all Light wanted was to have a criminal free world, and it's sort of sad to see him die because i bet anyone else who picked that up would've also tryed to accomplish Light's goal. Even though it seems that he is bad because of what he was doing, all he was actually doing was to protect himself from the police. If you had a mass killing spree, you would probably want to finish off the police too. The basic point is the Death Note shows how one person can make a change

Maybe that's why L was so hesitant on thinking that Light was Kira. The boy is a good man. He just swerved from his main goal and lost his way. That's all I have to say.
i kinda hated light... but when he was runnging/walking away holding his arm and crying, i started tearing up like i did when L died. The truth is...although i liked L more than Light, i still felt bad after watching him go through all of this and be defeated :(

Agreed. I thought Light was a very interesting character. Unlike typical male leads who just whine about justice, Light actually went out there and did all he could for what he believed was right. I saw him as a badass good guy and could really relate to his thoughts. I know and understand why many people see him as nothing but a psycho, but those people are just unable to see from his point of view.

I actually watched the japanese version of this with the english sub titles and now hearing it in english sounds a little weird to me lol and that's because i dont understand any japanese at all.it seems that the original japanese voice overs fit the characters better than the english dubbing in most anime's,but i guess that's to be expected.but all in all it's a pretty solid english dubbing.
This ending was great but it made me so sad. The one thing that annoys me though is how many hate Light. They hate him but not for a good reason. They hate him because he killed L (Which did kinda suck but it had to be done) In every revolution sacrafices are needed to be made and L was unfortunate to get caught up in the cross fire as were alot of ppl. as i re-watched this entire anime, i noticed a gradual loss of sanity in Light. Scenes such as light's dad dying and random maniacal laughter (sorry i cant remember exact episodes but if you watch the anime at some point you'll know what im talking bout) show how light starts losing any sort of compassion for those around him. There is a clear contrast between cool and composed Light and insane light. This really exemplifies the idea that Light lost himself along the way and was devoured by Kira
You don't have to even watch the show twice to notice that change. I think that the morale is very clearly depicted; power corrupts even the brightest and most benign individuals. At first Light was just a bored guy who was sick of the corrupted world filled with criminals. He only wanted to be recognized as a God so that nobody would dare to commit crimes anymore and good people would know someone was doing justice. But the pressure of getting caught and the power drove him insane.
This is only my opinion, but rather than losing his empathy gradually it seemed to me that Light willingly abandoned all of his emotions upon starting to use the Death Note. In the very first episode he's very shocked that he actually killed some people. But he thinks that it's his only chance to change the world he hates and thus abandons his feelings to create a better world. In the last episode this notion is highlighted in his speed when he says he was the only one who could do it

@seanza1126 Ryuk wrote Light's name for reasons like he said. The first person to pick up or touch the Deathnote (which was Light) he gets to pretty much claim their soul. and I dont know for sure about Misa, but I think she did.
Anime: After Light died, Ryuk offered the "Death Note Eraser" to Near and Near erased L's name
Movie: L catches Light and proves he is Kira. But in the movie after "L. Change the world" he writes L. Lawliet in the death note to avoid being killed by rem. But L.Lawliet isn't his real birth name so he wouldn't die :)

I was just pointing out facts, those would be the only things that would have stopped him and Ryuk wouldn't have written his name down just now if he wasn't already about to die or go to jail. And there would've been the slim chance he might have just had to destroy it for whatever reason. And thanks for clearing the endless pages thing up for me. o.o I must have missed that part.

And they sorta briefly mention that the pages are endless, so it's kinda hard to catch. The only reason I know is because I've watched Death Note 7 times and read it 6 times.

@seanza1126 Ryuk wrote Light's name for reasons like he said. The first person to pick up or touch the Deathnote (which was Light) he gets to pretty much claim their soul. and I dont know for sure about Misa, but I think she did.

Anime: After Light died, Ryuk offered the "Death Note Eraser" to Near and Near erased L's name
Movie: L catches Light and proves he is Kira. But in the movie after "L. Change the world" he writes L. Lawliet in the death note to avoid being killed by rem. But L.Lawliet isn't his real birth name so he wouldn't die :)

The real winner is Ryuk:he was distrayed,and a god of death without feelings can kill any humans.But the Light was dead before,the day when he used the deathnote (this explains why Light saw the"good himself":Light was owned by Kira),which is well named (the user dies when he uses it).In one hand,L was wright,the good triumphs of evil,but in the other hand, the moon, and the last apparition of ryuk show that's L was wrong: there a higher power who give death note,and transform people into Kira.

I think it was better if Light died with his eyes still opened. If someone of the Task Force would then find his body they could at least see that Light died as the person he once was. He didn't die as Kira.
