the unit stays on for a few seconds when the engine is turned off, but not that much longer. you would have to turn your engine on then off right away in order to see the temp.

Good video. I'll probably end up buying one of these for my car.
One quick question. Will it work when the key is in ignition but the engine is off? This way I can check how well my block heater works.
