Ben Elton's attempt to do Dad's Army - not bad - he got a great ensemble cast, and the CID are the Air Raid Precautions wardens to the uniformed officers' Home Guard. How clever to cast Rudolph Walker, James Dreyfus. Mina Anwar, David Haig and Mark Addy as well as the obvious Rowan Atkinson. That's four or five leading men. I feel that if he'd worked with someone else on the scripts, the show would have been top notch.

They're called actors because they play different characters. Don't typecast Rowan Atkinson. Yes, everyone knows him as Mr Beam, but just cos it's the same actor doesn't mean he acts like him all the time.

Most actors you'll find take aspects of their own personality to use in their different roles. Hugh Grant, for example, basically plays the same character in all his films, just slightly different.
