If Dr. West is saying that he should standfast in his beliefs without compromise, then in some cases I understand. However, this isn't a dictatorship. Checks and balances make sure that the president doesn't hold 100% power. The starting point of compromise for him is already one that deviates both from the public opinion as respresented in polls (ex. on health care) as well as from one which any real amelioration of living conditions for the large working class majority is possible.

Part of being a President is listening to all of the suggestions, inside and outside of his administration, and then making decisions before standing in front others to offer a solution. Being that so many people are affected, rich and poor, there's bound to be high levels of people that will always be left out. Very tough balance.
I appreciate the way in which Dr. West approached this subject. However, I know that the issue was 10 years in the making. It's about 9/11. It's about Enron. It's about Tyco. It's about the internet boom and Silicon Valley. It's about investments that were made improperly and under false pretenses. It's about foreign policy and lack thereof. Cornel is one of my heros and I agree with him. But, isn't a partially effective response better than no response? I mean let's be honest, the Right hasn't given him many other options.
Cornel West is spot on, although, as he is the honorary chair of the Democratic Socialists of America, I'm surprised Dr. West went so easy on him. That Obama would surround himself with lockstep conservatives - some of whom advocated the same unregulated market policies that destroyed this country (not just under Bush, but Clinton, Bush I and RayGun), I would have expected a bit more of a thrashing from Dr. West.
I voted for Kucinich and then McKinney. We need to vote for change this cycle, since the current holder will not change. Refusing to prosecute criminals of prior administrations, authorization of selling fighter jets to the sexist, repressive regime of Saudi Arabia, and the continuation of policies that violate both international and domestic laws should never be supported by the voting public (and more so for those charged with enforcing law). This is where we should draw the line.

Part of being a President is listening to all of the suggestions, inside and outside of his administration, and then making decisions before standing in front others to offer a solution. I appreciate the way in which Dr. West approached this subject. However, I know that the issue was 10 years in the making. It's about 9/11. It's about Enron. It's about Tyco. It's about the internet boom and Silicon Valley. It's about investments that were made improperly and under false pretenses. It's about foreign policy and lack thereof. It's about being surrounded by a group of people that wanted to make a change after years of wrongdoing. It will take longer than 2 terms to fix this.

bush got us in the economic mess by creating war which cost $10 billion dollars a month. wasted money. in addition, under his leadership there was no regulation for stated loans allowing all of these crack heads to acquire loans on stated income and not on credit history. after homeowners two year honeymoon period they began to default on bank loans which created a trickle. property taxes were defaulted which was used to fund different jobs. banks started to lose money and would not lend.

Maybe it was the regulations in place that prevented banks from doing due diligence on their lending practices. You know the community reinvestment act..

IT is a well-established fact that numerous detainees at Gitmo are NOT terrorists, they simply got rounded up because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Its incredibly unjust. Without fair trials, it is up to the DISCRETION of US gov officials call anyone a terrorist, no proof needed.

Cornel West is spot on, although, as he is the honorary chair of the Democratic Socialists of America, I'm surprised Dr. West went so easy on him. That Obama would surround himself with lockstep conservatives - some of whom advocated the same unregulated market policies that destroyed this country (not just under Bush, but Clinton, Bush I and RayGun), I would have expected a bit more of a thrashing from Dr. West.
