Yikes! What happened to Nuno's classic VH-style tone? This sounds like '84-era Slayer to my ears. Anyway, I dig the guy a lot, but Nuno never liked me-since '89 he always ran the other way whenever I wanted to say "Hi" or tell him I was a fan. @ NAMMM it was even worse. The other Extreme band members were kewl tho. BTW the basic definition of an arpeggio is "a chord played as individual notes" as opposed to simultaneously. So unless a run of notes can form a chord, then an "arpeggio" they ain't.

Technically any combination of notes can form an extended chord voicing, in AND out of key tones. That's why we add sharp and flat alterations at the end of a basic 7th 9th 11th or 13th chord spellings. Suggested listening for extended and altered arpeggios as a real cornerstone of their style... Zappa, Gambale, Satriani (plus the pitch axis approach will probably confuse the hell out of you) and some guy named Coltrane.

You can play that solo with normal triad chord shapes if you want but its WAY harder to play that way!thats why nuno and gilbert use these string skipping arp shapes so they can seq them with less hassle.There arps mate,you dont have to sweep them in normal chord vocies-you can tap them on one string if you want.any way no problems madlip,got a little bit heated earlier on but its fine now:)have a great week and play this song yourself on your guitar to see those arps being used:)

And Nuno, (along with Gilbert of course), was one of the first guys to really use that in a mainstream rock format. Hey fuckalot3000, good call on the Nuno screw-up! First of all, let it be known that I think Nuno is INCREDIBLE, and that I cannot touch this solo. Also, I've seen Extreme/Nuno a bunch of times live and Nuno is usually VERY consistent. His timing and articulation especially (grooving or shredding) is THE BEST! However, from (2:27-2:30) he lost his position and played a half-step sharp! He finally corrects it during the triplet arpeggio near the end. BTW, is that Pat on bass? I can't tell? Peace!
