@ashdown1981 No, Free's version came first. This song was written by Booker T. and the MG's and first recorded by Albert King, in 1967. Led Zeppelin did rip them off (there's no credit for Booker T and the others in "How Many More Times").
BERLIN (Reuters) – A German court has ordered former Thin Lizzy guitarist Gary Moore to pay damages after ruling the guitar solo in his 1990 hit "Still Got the Blues" had been plagiarized from a German song written in 1974.
A court in the southern city of Munich said on Wednesday the solo in Moore's song was too similar to the one in "Nordrach" by the band Jud's Gallery not to have been copied
@SRV1DOORS1HENDRIX1 He mainly used 100 watt Marshall Super Lead head with dual 4 x 12” Marshall cabinets equipped with bass speakers live. He used Laney and Marshall's in the studio also a 335 through a Fender tremolux. As far as I know he only used orange 100 watt head and 4x12 cab at The Beat Club where he played Fire & Water and All Right Now.
Brilliant band live, saw them seven or eight times, at Hull Blind Institute (yeah I know, it was a great gig tho'), Scarborough Penthouse and Newcastle University... the East Coast gigs are where they built their fame before the release of this, their first album....... fabulous album, wore is it out when I got it.... shame this posting has a truncated ending.... would love to own this again.... thanks anyway for posting it :)

Actually that what blues music is all about. All blues songs are copies of old tunes, that's just how it is. Find me anyone who does it better than Zep. Can't do it.
Actually, this song's originally from Albert King 1967 and Led Zeppelin are known for having copied loads of lyrics and to some extent some music for which they never paid any royalties (booooooo...)
Free was a very live band. Maybe that's why they didn't become too popular in the states. Their studio albums were very boring. Live, they were on the best bands ever. Paul Rodgers is the greatest singer, PK was very underrated and had one of the bst vibrato' ever. Simon Kirke held it down and Andy Fraser was a musical prodigy.
@samtotheg hmmnn when did this version come out then, because I thougt this was a cover and they both took the song just Led Zep only had part of it... (I may be tlking rubbish btw lol)
@oblitz11111 This studio version was on Free's "Tons of Sobs" album released in 1968. The song was written by the band members of "Booker T and the Mg's" probably around 1962. I have not been able to find the original version on youtube yet.
@MrStash1982 I looked this up yesterday. Below are the credits on wikipedia: There is about 5 co-writers on the song but I think Albert King may have released the song not Booker T and the Mg's since they were an instrumental group.
"The Hunter" (Jones/Wells/Dunn/Jackson/Cropper) 4.13

I used to get back from school and play this LP to death in 1971(excuse the pun here). Saw the band perform a few times in around that time.
Amazing memories...where did the time go?

@hendrix950 He actually used Super Bass models more often than Super Leads. And he had a 355, not a 335.
He had Oranges as backup sometimes.

@pinkpearl0823 I don't think they copied the lyrics. both songs were recorded on October 1968.

@pinkpearl0823 Its an old blues song, you can hear loads of versions of it it you'd bother to look - Albert King.
